Just so you know this is one of my favorite bands. So it may seem like a kiss-*** review.

Allegiance - Starts off with a creaking and goes straight to the point. It has a very catchy beat and a great album opener. Good guitar parts and compelling drum beats. 5/5

Progenies Of The Great Apocalypse - The single of the album. Nice mix of the grand piano and all the rest of the instruments. Has exactly what Dimmu Borgir is made up of and one of the best tracks on the album. If you havn't already seen it, try to watch the video. 5/5

Lepers Among Us - A very heavy song at the beginning and makes a nice transition at the break. Using a voice synthesizer to change his voice into a diabolical sounding whisper. The break is the best part and the very end comes close. Another one of the best songs on the album. 5/5

Vresbyrd - In English it's translated to "Wrath Burden". Very fast tempo and beat. Guitar part at the beginning is one of the best riffs in the album. Like any other Dimmu Borgir song it gets soft and heavy once again. Although the song is written in Norwegian, if you translate it it is still a good piece of art. 5/5

For The World To Dictate Our Death - One of my least favorite songs on the album. starts off with a very impressive drum riff. Has a very slow and consistent beat throughout the whole song. Very good lyrics for the song and is still worth hearing. 4/5

Blood Hunger Doctrine - The slowest song on the album. Has a really slow and mellowish mood to it. Mustis uses a lot of effects on this song, which is why it's so good. Operatic voices in the background, violins carrying the melody, and the piano during the verses. 5/5

Allehelgens Dod i Helveds Rike - Translated in English would be "All Saints Burn In The Realm Of Hell". My favorite track on the album. Good use of guitar at the beginning of the song and drumming skills. The first translation with the violins, mellows the mood for what is about to come because in the second translation the piano carries the melody and Vortex comes into play. The guitar riff after this part is by far one of the best Dimmu Borgir ones. Easy, Yes. Enthralling, **** straight. 5/5

Cataclysm Children - My least favorite son on the album. I can't really explain it but it doesn't seem like Dimmu Borgir. It feels like it lacks an overall deficiency. Not much of a tempo or melody shift. 3/5

Eradication Instincts Defined - Starts off with a nicely put together piece. If your not a fan of symphonies, then you'll hate this song. Very powerful melody and lyrics. Perhaps one of the best written songs on here. 5/5

Unorthodox Manifesto - Starts off with guns shooting in the background. You'll gradually hear people chant "Hail Satan" for about 1 to 2 minutes. Very Simple yet Heavy Riff to start out with. Nice use of the synthesizers on the song. 5/5

Heavenly Perverse -Cool guitar riff to start of with. Haven’t really listened to this song that much, but it's still very good. A very nice album finisher. 4/5

My favorite album from any band. I listen to this Cd everyday and absolutely love Dimmu Borgir. If you've never heard them I suggest you do. Very good musicians, as they use all of their instruments to the best. Lyrical-wise it's very good. One of the best song writers along with Manyard and Corey. Very dark and somber mood the defines of what black metal is made up of.

this cd isn't 5/5 material. i would give it a 4/5.

also, its not symphonic black metal. symphonic black metal is like arcturus, which dimmu borgir doesnt come close to.

It is so symphonic black metal.

Indeed. Just because you don't like the band as much as Arcturus or any other symphonic black metal band does not mean it is not symphonic black metal.

It's this "new wave of symphonic, barely-black, black metal," I guess. I still don't know why I bought this Cd, I've listened to it twice and there's not really a song on it I like. I personally think this is 3/5 material, but that's just me.

Dimmue Borgir was the biggest dissapointment and pain on my ears all day at ozzfest. They truly were the biggest waste of a slot on mainstage ever.

The whole new wave of Black Metal does not turn me off at all. Probably the only thing I dislike are the vocals. I don't hate them but they don't really seem to fit the music. Not sure what else I would use. Gregorian chants would be cool.

the lyrics in my opinon are very very poor he should stick to singing in norwegien so then at least i cant understand the crap he is babbling about!
And you cant be serious that you think corey is one of the best song writers?

New wave? Dimmu Borgir is far from being new, and they have been doing symphonic black metal since they started.

I know. But it just seems that a bunch of new bands doing a similar style have come up. It might just be me though. Even if Dimmu helped get this style on the roll (and they didn't do it since they started, For All Tid was quite different), I still consider them a part of the wave, the forebearers, if you will.

For All Tid was more just melodic black metal more then symphonic, but they still had some elements there of symphonic. They went symphonic with Stormblast and progressed from there onwards to what they are now. But Emperor, Arcturus, Bal Sagoth have all helped shape the symphonic black metal scene more then Dimmu Borgir has. Dimmu Borgir has just been a vessel to get the genre more open to people I guess.

I strongly dislike this band. It seems to me that they use way too much synth which over powers their instruments and they just focus way too much on being 'evil' instead of playing music. While this is true with many black metal bands (many of whom are also very ridiculous), I think Dimmu Borgir goes way over the top with the image. Aside from being obviously biased, this actually wasn't a bad review. You had good content, but no album can have that many 5s.

To say the least, I would actually be interested to hear what their early work like For All Tid sounded like.

It sounds incredibly different, plus it was all in Norwegian instead of English.
But bands evolve over time, and I think Dimmu Borgir evolved nicely. And mind you they have had tons of line-up changes which also contributes to the changes in their sounds.

Very true. Though, I havn't heard Bal Sagoth or much Arcturus, but most Emperor just sounds different than most of the bands that came after. So, while those three might have helped shape symphonic black metal, it's still just Emperor that I really like that falls under to sub-heading.

Though, I do like some symphonic effects, just more so in the "ambient black metal" way than the "symphonic black metal" way. Wow, there's some playing around with genre names...

Dimmu and Cradle both suck, if you want good symphonic metal bands check out:
Emperor
Winds
Anything with Hellhammer in it, basically

I really don't like the genre as a whole anyway, you don't mix the grim sounds of black metal with the beautiful sounds of an orchestra, it's like mixing oil and water

I think they're probably one of the worst bands I have ever heard.

Pretty decent review, all bias aside.

I just relistened, I like the lyrics a lot now and the album is quite enjoyable as well. This review sucked. Basically I like Dimmu Albums up through Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia. The strings on that album are perfect. Then it just gets crap.
