Ah, Sean Lennon. This guy has been famous since he was born. Son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, he has big shoes to fill if he wants to be as big as his parents. But that’s just the thing; he does not want his music to be the same as his fathers, which in my opinion is a good thing; you have to strive for a different and unique sound if you want you music to be recognized. As far as I know, this is his second album. His first was “Into the Sun” and was released 8 years previous to this one. This is a great album, and I would recommend it to anyone who is willing to listen to it. Now I find nearly impossible to rate songs, since one might mean a lot to someone, but nothing to someone else so keep an open mind and remember, just because I might not like a song that much does mean you wont ether.
Dead Meat:
First song off the album and gives a pretty good taste of what the rest will sound like. Nice piano work at the beginning and then goes into some guitar chord progressions when he sings. 9/10
Wait For Me:
Another good song, I really like the guitar solo in this one even though it just follows the vocals, it’s still nice and the bridge gives it a nice twist. 8/10
Parachute:
For me, the thing that stands out the most in this song is the lyrics, I love them. On top of that, there’s just some great musical work to go with it. 9.5/10
Friendly Fire:
Best song so far and it’s no wonder he named the album after this one. A great, nice and easy feel to it. 9.5/10
Spectacle:
My favorite song so far, nice piano and guitar work. The drums are pretty good for the song too. 10/10
Tomorrow:
This is my least favorite song on the album but still good none the less. Smooth guitar and vocals with some kind of keyboard chords going on in the background too. 7.5/10
On Again Off Again:
Like “Tomorrow”, this is one of the weaker songs on the album but still does the trick. Like most songs on the album it talks about love. 8/10
Headlights:
This is possibly my favorite song on the whole album (also the first one I heard). Just a guitar and Sean singing, and then other things come in, like clapping (which goes great with it) and an electric guitar. Great chorus too, it took me a while to figure out the chords since they don’t stay in the same key, but I love it when songs do that. If you listen to one song off the album, make it this one. 10/10
Would I Be The One:
O.k. I said “Headlights” might have been my favorite song off the album but… this one just might be more amazing. Great solo, outro, intro, verse and the chorus is amazing, all he says is: “Is it what I want?” and… I don’t know… it’s just amazing. Listen to it, quite possibly the highlight of the album for most people. 10/10
Falling Out Of Love:
Last song on the album and Sean doesn’t leave us disappointed; in fact all he does is leave us wanting more. The entire song is great and is a great ending to a great album. Great vocals and guitar at the ending, they go together hand in hand. 10/10
Altogether, this is very, very good album. Sean has a very unique voice and I hope we will be hearing more of his music really soon.
