Review Summary: To me, this album is music in its purest form and has gripped me like no other album can or maybe never will
The five men above created an album like no other, did anybody expect this from them before it was released. Unlike their previous albums, the album focused more on tranquilty and layers of cold synths to add depth to their songs. Frank plays a major role in this album which links together will chinos unique vocals that provides a haunting expierence. The bass also provides excellent parts to songs like RX queen where chi actually plays basslines that doesn't follw the guitar all the time. As for the guitar, well stef has been complained of playing basic riffs but they suit the tone and are more memorable than other songs around at the time ( linkin park songs come into mind). Some of the songs seem to be about love and relationships and one of my pals suggested that the album is a story of a screwed up relationship but the songs are not in the right order which kind of makes sense but who knows, chinos lyrics are like cryptic and are open to suggestions
FIETICEIRA: A very dark song which seems to be about a woman kidnapping a man while he pleads to be set free. The song seems to have no stucture to it, i cant recall a chorus at the moment. its the only song that isnt domainated by one person. 4.5/5
DIGTAL BATH: one of the best songs on the album, it has such a feelgood mood to it with chinos soaring vocals and the synths providing a sort of watery texture ( the drips in the backgroud) The guitar also plays beautifully in the verse and moulds with the song. not really sure what the song is about, perhaps love. 5/5
ELITE: the heaviest song on the album where the guitars growl and crash and chino sounds like an orc on steriods. I hated the song to begin with but once you get used to the album it begins to become listenable. A cool breakdown towards the end of the song makes it worthwhile though' 3/5
RX QUEEN: The intro to this song is amazing, the infrequent drum beats and the bassline is so chilling and carries on through the verse. The song seems to be about how no matter how much pain and suffering some woman inflicts on her partner, he still loves her.
"NOW LOOK AT THEM, NOW LOOK AT THEM, LOOK AT THEM STING" is repeated at the end until the dark synth outro. 5/5
STREET CARP: The fastest song on the album, which kind of has a punky feel to it. The song is pretty frantic and stays at around the same tempo throughout where the guitars a sonic assault and the bass and drums blast throughout. In the chorus, chino just seems to talk about a phone number which he "forgets" and asks if the person got it. 4.5/5
TEENAGER: The quietest song on the album which features a synth loop throughout it. it seems to be about how someone in a relationship doesnt like how their partner has changed in personality ( linked to rx queen perhaps). 3.5/5
KNIFE PARTY: An other highlight of the album where the song is just simply supposed to be about a knife. Chinos vocals ae his most haunting in this song as he switches from whispering to insanity corresponding with the music which verges in between ambience and heavyness. And the inhuman screaming in the background is so terrifying. An emotional song none the less. 5/5
KOREA: I dont know how to explain this song as the lyrics just make no sense at all and a confusing song all the way through. Its a very heavy song that blasts throughout which gives out tons of energy. 4.5/5
PASSENGER: A guest apperance from tool frontman maynard james keenan. He sings in between the verses as chino whispers and dominates the chorus. The drums are superb in this track but the song is the most repetivitive song on th album but the piano outro is so dark and chilling. 4.5/5
CHANGE: The most famous song off the album . it just boasts radio play whith its uplifiting chorus and the mood it give out. Its a very emotional song and all the instruments and vocals just soar through the whole song. 5/5
PINK MAGGIT: A very disturbing song, the guitar slowly picks the strings for a moody tone as chino whispers and moans until four minutes in where the heavyness kicks in. The song came before back to school and, in my opinion much better. in the end the guitar goes back to the verse while the bass drum slowy beats away like a heartbeat until silence. 5/5
And there we go, a description of my all time favourite album but dont be too harsh?, its my first review
