I Figured I would take a page out of Metallicaman's book and write a concept review. So here is my pathetic attempt at a concept review.

"Okay boys and girls! Let's all gather around! It's story time! The tale we are reading today is titled Beauty and the Breakdown! Lets get started!"

Matt Bruso- Enchantments
Brendan "Slim B." MacDonald- Harp
Aaron Patrick- Oboe
Eric Ellis- Harp
Mark Castillo- Bongos

So they story starts like this: There were 3 little wolves. All of these 3 little wolves loved to eat little pink piggys. They would hunt for them all day, and most of these days would come home to their little wolf cubs empty handed, until one day one of the wolves stumbled upon a House of Straw. Now this House of Straw was very heavy and had looked as though it might breakdown at any minute. From inside the house there was some beautiful poetry being recited. Now, the wolf was never one for poetry, but this poetry was soft on the ears and piercing to the heart, so the wolf decided to forget all the fairy tales he had heard about little piggys living in houses built of straw and continued on in his search for dinner.

Soon after passing the House of Straw, the wolf came upon a marvelous castle. He heard some sweet harpsichord melody from inside the castle being accompanied by a simple, yet effective bongo beat. Knowing where there's music, there’s a party and where there's a party, there's finger food, and the wolf entered the castle. Upon opening the door, the wolf heard some furious hammering and crashing coming from an upstairs room. Walking up the staircase to the upstairs room to find our what that heavy sounding thud was, the wolf slipped on a Glass Slipper and fell down the stairs. This disheartened the wolf, and he decided to leave the slipper for whoever it would fit, for he knew it would not be good for his reputation to have some of his wolf friends see him in a glass slipper, no matter how much it struck his fancy. So the wolf continued on his way out to find a meal for his family, never to find out what that slow, steady, chug was.

After walking a little ways, the wolf came up on a forest that was luscious and green. The wolf entered the forest, excited to explore the area. The wolf came up on a log in which a man was sitting upon, playing with what looked like a white board with black stripes. When the man saw the wolf he dropped his board and ran for his life, not knowing that the wolf only wished for directions to the nearest meat market. The wolf stepped on it and immediately was startled by a weird, almost symphonic noise coming from the board. Odd the wolf thought, and continued on. The wolf came up on a clearing to find a woman in a glass case, looking to be asleep. The wolf crept around the chamber, not to wake the woman, for he knew how much he disliked being woken from a deep sleep. After leaving the clearing, the wolf noticed somewhat of the same noise he heard in the castle, only better. The wolf stopped for a listen for a few moments, then continued on with his mission.

The wolf walked and walked and came upon a Trail of Crumbs, lying on the ground. Now this was the wolf's favorite thing to see at this point, because it was different form what he had seen the whole morning, yet didn't differ from the atmosphere to throw his voyage off. He walked a little farther and found a house made out of what looked to be gingerbread. He peaked inside and saw a sign hanging over a strange looking machine. The sign said "Breakdown Machine: The finest Breakdowns on this side of the Mississippi". The wolf agreed with the sign even though he did not know what that meant.

On the wall of the house, the wolf noticed a large mirror. Now this was no ordinary mirror. This was a special mirror that showed the heaviest parts of your most current adventure, and the lightest parts of it at the same time. The lightest parts are beautiful, while the heavy parts are up to par with that of a 1000-ton anvil. The Wolf liked reminiscing on his past times, but knew it was getting late and should start home.

****

After walking and walking for hours and hours, and not getting anything as interesting as the beginning of his adventure (the wolf had forgotten all about the food he was supposed to bring home. The Mrs. is gonna have a cow), and decided to turn back. All in all, his quest had been good. A lot of the sights he had experienced had not been different from what he had seen in the past, but had taken those to a whole new level. His only problem besides having to explain his empty hands when he got home was how the second half of his adventure had been rather similar to the first part, and he was having trouble distinguishing the first half with the second. Though this was only one problem, it had docked many points off of the wolf's final rating of his day. The favorite parts of his journey were the Crumbs (they were delicious), the House of Straw (what beautiful craftsmanship on that house), and the Mirror, (oh that precious Mirror, Mirror on the wall)

" And that children is the story of the wolf and how his adventure was a good experience that he wised to share with anyone who enjoyed having adventures into areas such as these." The children were all asleep, the story had put them right out. The teacher walked over to her desk and opened her drawer to fish out her Ipod and listen to some sweet, sweet music before the children awoke. The screen flickered to life as she cycled down to Bury Your Dead...

After i wrote this Review, i realized it wasn't the easyest to understand, so here is the condensed version:

Bury Your Dead is a moshcore quintet hailing from Boston , MA, my hometown. I cannot honestly say this record revolutionized Hardcore. Yes, its heavy. Yes, the breakdowns are pretty fresh, but over all, it really is somewhat generic. You could basicly take any song from one of their earilier records and interchange it on here. It is however, better than the previous records, having much more diveristy and change than "You Had Me At Hello" and "Cover Your Tracks".

There are a few good songs, such as the opener House of Straw, Mirror, Mirror..., and Trail of Crumbs. House of Straw is a great opener to a mediocre record. Its combination slower, heaveyer chrouses and faster verses make it a prime canidate for the best track. Its just all the same though. Trail of Crumbs is only a meh song until you make it to the breakdown, where all hell breaks loose. Its hard to sit still when listening to that breakdown. Mirror, Mirror.. has the all the melody for the entire record on it...and its not even a melodic song. Its still has BYD's trademark shugging in it, but with a hint of melody, which is welcome for as I said before, a somewhat generic record.

This record is not bad. It doesn't suck. Don't avoid it . But if your into Bury Your Dead, you might get some of the same stuff you got on previous albums. If your new to Hardcore or Metalcore, I might start here. It's firm. Even for older fans, it's decent. It took what they had before, and strenthened it. It just has too much of the same stuff in here. Maybe next album, we'll get a revolutionize. Or at least we can hope.

hehe well here let me sum it up for you: the best tracks on this record were Mirror Mirror, House of Straw, and Trail of Crumbs. Mirror, Mirror has alot of melody which makes the song really shine. House of Straw is your classic Moshcore track, heavy and to the point. Trail of Crumbs is pretty muhc all breakdowns, so if your a fan of those, you might like that one. Most of the other songs kindof mix togther, and make a mediocre metalcore record. Idk what i was trying to accomplish and it was fun for me to write so thats all taht amtters to me, but i apologize if the concpt wasnt well done and if you couldnt figure out some of my termenology

see i tryed to tell you about the album, you just have to read carefully. Ill help you out. the places i decribed were the best songs. The breakdown machine is obvious. The mirror part was saying how the song adds diversity through meoldy. The House of straw i said it plainly that that track was heavy. the glass slipper was harder for me to think up but the thuming was also how that song was full of breakdowns. at the end the wolf cant distingush some of the memories of his expirience becuase alot of them mix togtehr, as i said to make a mediocre moshcore album. that clear some of it up? use ur imagination...alot and maybe ull get more of it idk

I have a feeling this would be something I hate, only a few metalcore bands have grabbed my attention but I hate 90% of the genre anyhow. Please, for future reference, avoid concept reviews totally. Not a lot of people can pull them off well and honestly, I want to read about an album, not a little story.

Oh, I understand exactly what you were trying to do. The thing is your descriptions were far too vague. With concept reviews you need to balance the concept with the information. This review was far too much concept and not enough info. If you take out the story and leave just the info this review is like the size of a soundoff. That being said it wasn't a pretty interesting read. So, I didn't neg you.

Hmm, I like the traditional reviews better. I like this album for when I'm pissed off. It's not too creative, but it does the trick.

I was really into this when it first came out but its old news now...its a tad bit better than "Cover Your Tracks" and I still crank it out from time to time but like I said about "Cover Your Tracks" it pisses you off but nothing to write home about.

They are pretty bad. I see kids with Bury Your Dead shirts that have a picture of brass knuckles on them. Tough guy alert!

Honestly, these guys are horrible. They're only good live (I guess all hardcore is, though).

I've given Bury Your Dead a shot several times now, but I just can't get into it. Love metalcore, but I think I need some clean vocals thrown in here and there to avoid monotony. But I will say this: Sickest live show I have ever seen - Bury Your Dead.
