The last Beatles song 28 replies

The Beatles have shared a previously unreleased song, 'Now and Then', taken from an old John Lennon demo and later finished by surviving members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. You can stream it below.

Press release goes as follows:
Now and Then's eventful journey to fruition took place over five decades and is the product of conversations and collaborations between the four Beatles that go on to this day. The long mythologised John Lennon demo was first worked on in February 1995 by Paul, George and Ringo as part of The Beatles Anthology project but it remained unfinished, partly because of the impossible technological challenges involved in working with the vocal John had recorded on tape in the 1970s. For years it looked like the song could never be completed. But in 2022 there was a stroke of serendipity. A software system developed by Peter Jacks ...more

New Exocrine LP, Jan 26th 5 replies

French tech metallers Exocrine released the title track off their upcoming sixth studio album, Legend, due out January 26th through Season of Mist. Watch the music video below.

Created by Sylvain Octor Perez

"Legend is a new chapter for Exocrine and we're eager to introduce you to it. It's probably the album we're most proud of, it's also our most personal one. We see it as a reflection of our existence, of what we create, and what we wish to leave of ourselves in the end." Says Sylvain Octor Perez. "It's through this Dante-like confrontation between these three characters in complete opposition. All of this is combined with questions about the lessons of the past and our place in the universe. That's why we wanted to create a more intimate atmosphere with a more organic production, and return to calmer tempos at times."

Mike Portnoy back in Dream Theater 134 replies

Dream Theater announced today that Mike Portnoy rejoined the band on drums and will start working on their 16th studio album. He left in 2010, being replaced by Mike Mangini who was featured on their last 5 LPs.

Mangini commented on his departure: “I understand Dream Theater’s decision to get Mike Portnoy back at this time. As was said from Day 1, my place was not to fill all the roles that Mike held in the band. I was to play the drums in order to help the band carry on. My main role of keeping our live show working tightly on a nightly basis was an intense and rewarding experience. Thankfully, I got to experience playing music with these iconic musicians, as well as some fun times laced with humor. I also really enjoyed spending lots of time with the crew. And then there’s the GRAMMY® win, which was amazingly satisfying. To the fans: thank you so much for being amazing to me. I cherish the pictures I have of you all losing your minds and having fun. R.I.P. Atsushi Sakurai 27 replies

Atsushi Sakurai, the skilled and charismatic vocalist behind one of Japan’s longest running rock bands, BUCK-TICK, has passed away on October 19th from a brain hemorrhage.

Started when the members were still in high school, BUCK-TICK are known to be one of the country’s most versatile and enduring rock bands, with 2023 having been the group’s 40th anniversary. One of the band’s biggest signatures were the rich vocals of Sakurai, with the ambiguous visual style of the band, particularly Sakurai, being extremely influential in the creation of visual kei, one of Japan’s most popular musical subgenres during the 90s.

One of the group’s most popular singles was “Dress”, originally released in 1993 and re-released in 2005, being featured in the popular anime series Trinity Blood, helping to garner BUCK-TICK a passionate international following. 'Black Metal', the track and its origin, features something really primeval, raw and unhinged. There is lawlessness and danger connected to it. We did our best to capture the spirit of the ancient gods' rock 'n' roll 24 years later. Did we do it justice? I think so."

Allegaeon drop new track 19 replies

U.S. technical/melodic death metallers Allegaeon have dropped a new track, 'Inhumation', with original singer Ezra Hayn. You can stream it below.

Ezra Haynes comments: "Since my departure in 2015, Allegaeon had grown so much musically as well as introduced a more 'personal' style of lyrics to the fold."

"This was a very cool change to me. We wanted to do a callback to the first album when we signed to Metal Blade, 2010's Fragments of Form and Function. For the second song on that, 'The Renewal,' I built a layered vocal section that I thought was really neat then. I wanted to somehow incorporate something similar, but bigger and evolved, into 'Inhumation', considering the song is so damn massive. It's without a doubt the most aggressive thing I’ve ever written. Also, now that Allegaeon is a group with three gents on vocals, I w ...more
