Sunday, October 19th LIMP BIZKIT bassist Sam Rivers has died at the age of 48.
On Saturday, October 18, a post on Instagram announced that Sam Rivers had passed away earlier in the day. No cause of death was released. The entire post stated:
"Today we lost our brother. Our bandmate. Our heartbeat," the band wrote in the caption, alongside a photo of Rivers performing onstage.
"Sam Rivers wasn't just our bass player — he was pure magic. The pulse beneath every song, the calm in the chaos, the soul in the sound," the band continued. "From the first note we ever played together, Sam brought a light and a rhythm that could never be replaced. His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous.
"We shared so many moments — wild ones, quiet ones, beautiful ones — and every one of them meant more because Sam was there," LIMP BIZKIT continued. "He was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of human. ... more

The much-maligned Corpus Christi metalcore group Design the Skyline have returned in a peculiar way this week.
After a period of silence since 2018's visual kei inspired single "In Dreams", Design the Skyline - now consisting of original members Dani Ray and Matt Ryan, released a new single called "Beckoning" on 16 October, along with launching all new social media pages. The song marks a return to the band's deathcore roots.
However, the following day, another Design the Skyline using the band's original socials posted a statement claiming that the version fronted by Eric Azure is the sole legitimate version of the band, along with ressuing their Synthetic Cities EP and Galactical Celebration demo on streaming services. French artist Sierra Veins, formally known as Sierra, is set to release her brand new album, In the Name of Blood, on the 7th November. In the Name of Blood is a brutal mix of darkwave, EDM and synthwave and, in her words, the album is "an introspective work about identity, self development and relates with her name’s change earlier this year."

Justin Pearson's label, Three One G Records, is set to release an interesting compilation record on 21st November, which is anchored by his podcast, Cult and Culture. The compilation LP compiles music from guests he's had on the podcast hitherto, with little excerpts at the start of each track. Some distant planet that means something mystic must be in retrograde somewhere, because legendary progressive rock band Oceansize has stepped back into the light with new offerings! Er, well, SORT OF new offerings.
It's the 15th anniversary of Oceansize's final album Self-Preserved While The Bodies Float Up this year, and due to hold ups with their label and other music biz related roadblocks, the album has long been out of print and unavailable on most streaming services.
It looks like these roadblocks have been circumnavigated, because the band has re-released their swan song back on triple vinyl as well as made it available on your favorite streaming service.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, the package also contains bonus tracks. One of these tracks, "Cloak", was available on a few releases of this album when it released - but there are other new ones as well that were unused instrumentals.

Convicted pedophile and former Lostprophets lead singer Ian Watkins was killed in a stabbing at a British prison earlier this morning.
In 2013, Watkins was sentenced to 29 years in prison for horrific sexual misconduct against victims as young as one year old. Watkins was previously assaulted and held hostage in 2023.

American thrash metalcore group Trivium has officially announced that they have parted ways (again) with their longtime drummer, Alex Bent. Bent first joined the band back in 2016, with his first appearance being 2017s The Sin and the Sentence. This news comes in as Trivium are preparing to tour later this month, with Greyson Nekrutman from Sepultura covering as a touring drummer.
Bent released a statement on social media:
I am beyond grateful for the incredible past 9 years with Trivium—filled with unforgettable moments, music, and friendships that I’ll always carry with me. I’m so proud of every record and tour we created together, and I know Trivium will continue to dominate the world; they’ll always have my support.

Their first release since their 2020 EP Suburban Dystopia, the single is said the issue of transgender rights and how governments demonise the transgender community to create a scapegoat to distract from their own failings.

Post-metal band Fog Warning have released a single and video ahead of their debut album Perils Below, set to drop October 3. The project revolves around maritime and horror themes, including lead single "Cachalot" that begins the story of a sailor's death at sea and his journey through hell.

Cult alt-rock/shoegaze quartet Hum have announced their first activity since their 2020 comeback album Inlet and death of drummer Bryan St Pere in 2021.
Though the band have stated they have no current plans beyond this run of dates at Slide Away Festival, which also boasts the return of Chapterhouse among its lineup, they have also announced that Jason Gerken, who was briefly a member at the beginning of their reunion in 2015, has returned to the fold behind the kit.

Ends in Tragedy, an Australian band known for their old-school metalcore sound, have dropped their new single, "Beauty of Death". The 'revivalcore' track channels early 2000s metalcore with raw emotion, heavy riffs, beautiful ambient breaks, and crushing breakdowns.
Synth-pop duo Magdalena Bay have surprise-released two new singles: Second Sleep and Star Eyes.
There has been no announcement of a new album or EP, and Magdalena Bay is currently touring the US.
