On March 31st Balmora dropped their single “Ophelia” off their upcoming album These Graven Halls. It’s the first song they’ve released with their new vocalist Paul Cole, who replaced Senti earlier this year. The track also features Brie Percy of the band Holder. Guitarist Jay Torblaa said of the single, “Ophelia is a story of betrayal, heartbreak, revenge, and forgiveness. It’s meant to highlight the nature of initial anger, action, and remorse in a hanging balance system.”
When asked about the record they said this, “Influences pull from the obvious like The Black Dahlia Murder and On Broken Wings to a mix of media, classical, and modern music - Requiem For A Dream, Silent Hill, Philip Glass, Bladee.”

Converge have just announced their second full-length album release of 2026, titled "Hum of Hurt" and due out June 5, following closely in the footsteps of their previous 2026 release "Love Is Not Enough". The title track's music video can be streamed below.
Though recorded during the same sessions as "Love Is Not Enough", Hum of Hurt is not a sequel. “When we came together to write, we ended up with a wealth of material,” the band's vocalist Jacob Bannon explains. “As work progressed we realized we had created two separate albums, and treated them as such.”
“The unifying musical idea early on was, ‘Let’s make a noise rock album.’ But we never really did. The first one wasn’t. This one touches on that spirit, but it’s much more dynamic than that descriptor. To me, it leans more into being ...more
Bohan Daniel Lueders, co-founder of Chicago hardcore punk band Harm's Way, and co-host of the Hardlore podcast has passed away at the age of 38. The news was reported by Colin Young, the other half of the Hardlore podcast. Writing "It is with heavy, broken hearts that we share that our beloved Bo Lueders has passed away."

Bo founded Harm's Way in 2006 after playing in many Chicago hardcore bands in the years prior. Originally a side project of The Few and Proud. The band went on to release 5 albums and 5 EPs, with a new studio release on the way in 2026.
No further statements as to the future of Harm's Way or Hardlore were given; simply asking for "grace and privacy as we navigate this extremely difficult time."

The only constant is change. Don't trust everything you read. Money doesn't buy happiness. You're probably familiar with these truisms, but after Afroman was fully vindicated by a jury on March 18, I propose a new one: Don't toss Afroman bullshit.
Afroman and his family were the victims of a spurious police raid back in 2022 when the Adams County Sheriff's office raided his home on suspicion of kidnapping and drug dealing (apparently thanks to a bunk confidential informant). No evidence was ever mounted for either and Afroman was never charged. But as anyone who's ever had to seriously deal with the cops can attest to, it's a traumatic experience. So Afroman spent the ensuring years coming out with tracks blasting the officers involved in the dubious raid.
These songs led seven officers to sue Afroman for defamation in 2023. But despite this added injustice, Afroman persevered and released this amazing music video just before the defamation trial. ...more

Canadian heavy metal artist Devin Townsend has announced that the long-awaited album version of his rock opera, The Moth, is finally dropping on May 29th. The concept of the opera has been in the works since 2016, and was first performed live back in March of last year.
Devin described the album as "a loose story following someone who realises that old patterns of behaviour are no longer serving them. By digging in and sitting with themselves, an internal conflict is revealed, one they may have been resisting or unconsciously rationalizing for years."
The album is said to be part of a "quadrilogy" of projects, which also includes his 2024 release, Powernerd, as well as another one called Axolotl, and his web series, Ruby Quaker which released its first episode back in November.
Along with the announcement, Devin also released the lead single from the album, "Enter the City".
Pioneering industrial group Godflesh has been forced to retire ahead of the release of its final album after founder Justin Broadrick revealed the impact of an inguinal hernia meant he could no longer perform harsh vocals.
Broadrick confirmed in a statement on Instagram that continuing to perform harsh vocals with Godflesh risks further hernias, and potentially blowing out his abdominal wall entirely, so for his own health Godflesh has immediately ceased operating as a live band. However, the penultimate album, titled Decay, is currently in the mixing and mastering phase with a tentative July/August release. A final album has already been written and will be recorded in late 2026, Broadrick's health permitting. Further dub albums and live albums have not been ruled out.
Broadrick has, however, confirmed that his other less intensive projects, such as Jesu and JK FLESH, will continue alongside other newer projects which won't demand harsh vocals.
The world may be crumbling around us in hyper-speed these days, but at least we're getting some good music to score it to.
Speaking of score, humanity has gotten a big win today with some great news to some old heads of metal:
Avant-garde prog metal band maudlin of the Well is reuniting for their 30th anniversary this year.
Per founding guitarist/bassist/singer/clarinetist/pond water hand tappist Toby Driver:
"In 1996, three friends from Connecticut set out to build a private world, a place to disappear into. We approached music guided by an inner compass, following whatever paths the work revealed, rather than creating something meant for a career or a specific scene. After some time, we left that place, but it continued to unfurl in silence. It traveled quietly from person to person, connecting with those who were meant to find it and gathering energy from around the world as it went, reaching farther than we ever did. In th ...more
