The record serves as a prequel to the narrative from Preacher's Daughter, starting five years prior to the events from the latter. Sylvester “Sly Stone” Stewart, frontman of the landmark funk and psychedelic soul group Sly and the Family Stone, has passed away today at the age of 82 from lung disease.

With the Family Stone, Sly scored 3 #1 singles (“Everyday People”, “ Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)”, and “Family Affair”.) Their 1971 album, There’s a Riot Goin’ On, is considered one of the most influential albums of all time.
