Doctor Who Theme- Versions Ranked
oooooWEEEEEEOOOOOOOWEEEEROOOOOOOO Na Na Na Na Na Na Na dun dun dun
dun NANA!!! I'm a whovian as you guys know and since the show makes a return
next Sunday, I figure it would be a nice idea to rank the versions of the theme. |
1 | Pete Howell Doctor Who Theme- 1980-1985
Amazingly atmospheric and intense. It sounds great turned up a few semitones, and the voice
synthesizer? Brilliant, but even more amazing is that synth that sounds suspiciously like a guitar.
Power of rock, you have officially have been introduced to Doctor Who. |
2 | Murray Gold Doctor Who Theme- 2007-2010
The drums, strings and oscillator. Dude, it makes you imagine you're going into battle. |
3 | Doctor Who Theme 2005-2007
It stays close to the original yet it has lots of sweep. Has that battle feel, but to a lesser extent. |
4 | Delia Derbyshire and Ron Grainer Doctor Who- Radiophonic Workshop version
The version that started it all. It had people hiding behind the couches before The X Files. Very
intense and atmospheric. Often considered to be the first electronic music ever made, as it was
made entirely on non-instruments. |
5 | Pink Floyd One of these Days
Yes, it's only a few seconds in the middle, but it does sound like it would have made a good
Doctor Who theme used in the series. |
6 | John Debney Doctor Who Theme 1996 TV Movie
It was the first to bring the "epic sweep" to the theme, however, it sounds a bit overdone. Also,
it's featured in a shit movie too. |
7 | John Pertwee I Am The Doctor
Meh. The theme doesn't need lyrics. |
8 | Keff McCulloch Doctor Who Theme (1986-1988)
It does sound very "mysterious", but being done on all synthesizers just sounds like they were
trying too hard. I can't take it seriously at all- it sounds very laughable. |
9 | John Debney Doctor Who Theme (1983)
Sounds even worse than the McCulloch version! |
10 | Murray Gold Doctor Who Theme (2010-2013)
Seriously, how could he fuck it all up? He manages to ruin the epic sweep. Seriously, it sounds
cheap. The theme didn't need changing when the 2009 version of the theme was way epic. |
