I'm not obese or anything but I find like once a week If I want a snack I end up eating a whole bag of Doritos or peanut m and m's etc and I'd like to avoid that. Starting to eat more fruit and nuts, anyone got any other suggestions?
“Baked” red potatoes! Most decent microwaves have a potato button. I make red potatoes in the microwave and mash them up with some seasoning once every day or so. Only takes a few minutes depending on quantity
Imo, junk food once a week not bad. I gorge on a saturday evening, beer or ice cream or whatever. Helps me not crave junk during the rest of the week.
Go to snacks: Nanners, nuts (pistacchios, walnuts, & trail mix in particular --> try to hold back on dried fruits & sugar bombs), mandarins, cold veggies (carrots, cucumbers, celery, broccoli --> hummus).
" if you get high enough you can literally just cram raw spinach in your mouth "
"Alton Brown vehemently opposes these so called unitaskers, and has likened them to "..strategic gifts for people you don't like""
that's hilarious that you mention that. I love Alton Brown and that video where he rips on unitaskers is pretty great
Smoothies my man. That's how I get basically all my servings of fruits/veggies.
Delicious recipe: 1 banana, 1/3 avocado, 1 1/2 cup milk, 3/4 cup frozen tropical fruit, 1 cup leafy greens, 1 scoop protein powder (vanilla, chocolate is no good here), 1 Tablespoon chia seeds, extra water if it's too thick
Feel free to add some cucumber or celery if you like
Works best Nutribullet, Vitamix or Blendtec blenders. Ninja and Magic Bullet blow for this.
Other snacks: wheat thins, apples, mixed nuts, beef jerky (if it doesn't dent the wallet much), whole grain granola bars, greek yogurt, banana and peanut butter
If you have a food processor, it is definitely worth it to make your own hummus. Will end up being far better than anything you buy in the store, and once you get the hang of it you can mess around with flavors
