Overlooked 2014

Some of the great lesser-known albums of 2014 that ya'll may not have jammed.
1Brontide
Artery

Instrumental post/math-rock with a lot of cool progressive leanings. Dan's review
says it perfectly, it has a sense of swagger. Really moody and fun, and at times quite
technical and virtuosic.
2Black Monolith
Passenger

Black Metal with hardcore punk and post-rock influences. Really an enveloping
influences. While it is incredibly aggressive, it can take a step back and be incredibly
beautiful.
3Mimicking Birds
Eons

Folk mixed with alternative or indie rock. It sounds like a hypnotizing mix of Iron &
Wine and Modest Mouse. For an album of its style, its atmosphere is unmatched.
4Comrades
Safekeeper

A really emotional mix of post-rock, and heavy post-hardcore (maybe even closer to
metal). Instrumentals are seamless and beautiful and are easily the highlight of the
album.
5Chris Letchford
Lightbox

A contemporary jazz album from the guitarist of Scale the Summit that while lacking a
bit of variety, is a really solid modern jazz album. Lots of incredible playing from all
members (features Reign of Kindo and Evan Brewer).
6Acres
Solace

Extremely dense post-metal/hardcore with a bit of an emo feeling. In vein of Isis
mixed with Envy and Rinoa.
7Sugary Sweet Machines
Tours of the Bleak

Incredibly solid experimental industrial project from a few sputnik members.
8Terraformer
Creatures

Atmospheric sludgy metal that sounds like Russian Circles. Ambient and soaring
passages break way to dense sludgy walls of instrumental riffage.
9Locktender
Rodin

Intelligent post-metal/hardcore with epic songwriting and a sense of strong
emotionalism. I will rant and rave over this album for a long time.
10Ricky Eat Acid
Three Love Songs

Very well written ambient/electronic with a raw lo-fi feel. Thank you Yak
