Top Albums Of 1968
The year before an absolutely stellar year in music |
10 | | Sly & the Family Stone Life
WE WANT THE FUNK |
9 | | Miles Davis Miles in the Sky
This is only rated this high because I'm not as familiar with it as I should be. |
8 | | Miles Davis Nefertiti
Ditto above |
7 | | Frank Zappa Cruising With Reuben and the Jets
More or less Freak Out! v. 2.0, except not as good. Has some covers from that album, again, not as good. Still solid though. |
6 | | Frank Zappa Lumpy Gravy
Pretty good, if not a tad bizarre. I prefer other Zappa modern classical/experimental rock works. |
5 | | Ray Baretto Acid
Samba jazz! This is a style of music I was never too fond of, but this album is really good. This music absolutely moves, and Baretto plays great. |
4 | | Bill Evans Bill Evans at the Montreux Jazz Festival
An album of Evans' I'm more familiar with, I really like this one. Some great tunes on here, Evans was a master of Third Stream. |
3 | | Soft Machine The Soft Machine
I realized while doing this list I haven't listened to this album in years. I really need to give it another spin. I really like the album though, great pscyhedelic/early fusion record. |
2 | | Frank Zappa We're Only In It For the Money
I've always had kind of mixed feelings about this album. On one hand, it's got some great songs, but I do feel it goes on for a bit too long and takes the whole psychedelia parody thing a little thin. |
1 | | Don Cherry Eternal Rhythm
I dig Don Cherry, and of the little stuff I have of his, this might be my favourite. Would love to delve deeper one day. Great Avant-Garde jazz album. |
