Rnd 4: Taco's Annihilation Recommendation Nation

You guys know the basic rules but Round Winners will now receive bonuses. These will continue into the album section of the competition. Saves for Song Rounds: By winning a round you now have a save. If you previously have had a round win, and you lose in one of the upcoming rounds, you are able to rec me an additional song. I will take the avg of both songs you rec'd and that score will be your new score. This can only be used if you have a save (obvs). Saves for Album Rounds: These will work differently. If you have a save and lose you are able to challenge a user of your choice to a double song-off. The winner of that double song-off will gain a .1 bonus to his score.

"Complicated Game"

Very eccentric vocal style here, but i like it. Wasn’t too sold on first listen but before i knew it I was singing along to those goofy low bass vocals and jammin out when things got more bombastic and punk-y.

"New Alhambra"

A hazy and steady paced track for thinking and self doubt. Vocals fit the music/atmosphere very well; a near shoegaze-y quality about them. And it’s name your price(!).

Dewinged

"Shadows of my Name"

Not sure why i expected this to be more dreamy/fuzzy but it was still pretty. The song is primarily an atmospheric acoustic jam. The pick up towards the end really helped the song out, it gets intense without overdoing it.

"Common People"

A britpop anthem thats fun, witty, and catchy. Vocalist is charismatic and the song is filled with great lyrics and dorky keys galore. Sure, you’re not gonna be elevated to a higher plane of existence after jammin’ or some shit, but when a song has this much style, who cares.

"Us"

I like to call this romantic comedy music. It’s in no means bad, but the second I heard that piano lick I immediately imagined some dude running through an airport to stop his “true love” from leaving on a plane to go pork the guy she’s already been dating for 6 years. Real talk - Regina’s voice is delightful and the song was nice.

"Laughing with a Mouth of Blood"

An indie pop track for mall walks. The track felt smooth despite the thick drum kick foundation. Annie’s vocals flow very naturally here and have a strange eloquent quality about them.
Irrelevant but by god her eyes make her instantly attractive af

"Your Drums, Your Love"

A much more modern pop sound than the previous picks. Liked this more than i thought i would. Dug the chorus and the beat doesn't feel overbearing but sleak. Video was cool.

"If I'm Wit You"

An R&B track this time around. Great beat and the rap flow for the verses was adequate. The song glides by and feels honest. Baby maikin’ jamz. You can relax now Drifter.

"Crosses"

A short and sweet acoustic folk/indie rock dittie. Jose’s voice feels sincere and well executed. Music like this I always seem to enjoy, but it’s hard for me to find something i find totally remarkable. This was close though :)

"Times Square"

Great song, has a lot going for it. The song starts up as an indie pop rock, throws in some sexy brass and electric guitar, and concludes strong. Really fun, feel good. Gets you in a “king of the word” kinda mood. Or “king of your car stuck in traffic” if we're being real.

Conmaniac

"Giver"

An indie rock track with a little something extra. Some pleasant vocal melodies and even a little violin shake things up. Some burlier guitar chords bring the song to a close while Pat’s beaut falsetto seals the deal.

"Caldera"

Well damn, that was an anime intro song if i’ve heard one. Great singing, was intense and exciting. Guitar and the rest do their jobs well and the song is just overall, a pop rock banger.

Avagantamos

"Honky Cat"

Song grooves pretty hard and has a old school rockin’ feel. Dancing piano and protruding trumpets join the mix while john sings away. Never been much of an Elton John buff but this one stood out.

"Down by the Water"

The back and forthing between the lyric and distanced echo was a cool dynamic and made the song easy to get stuck in your head. The repeated whisper outro was unsettling in a great way. Super solid track.

"Pagan Poetry"

Never actually jammed Bjork before, probably an odd statement coming from a sput user. I didn't fall in total love with this but i certainly enjoyed it. The song has a unique atmosphere and her voice seems to be at full force here. Can't quite pinpoint why it didn't grab me completely.

"プラトニックプラネット"

Welp, i expected to hate this, i really did. But its actually kinda fun. Not lyin, i was bobbing my head, and that electronic riff is dope. My main complaint is it’s still a little too cheesy and obnoxious for my taste, as is most jpop.

"Enola Gay"

Retro vibez. Those keys are insanely dorky but they work for the song. Not too big on the vox but overall the song was just feel-good and made you feel like you’re flying. Reminded me of internet cat videos.

"Happy 13"

A catchy and sleepy indie rock song with some rad keys straight out of an n64 game soundtrack (not a bad thing). The spacey break in the middle of the song was a cool touch.

"Clap Hands"

*.1 penalty for artist already used*

So yeah, guess ill be jammin a Tom Waits album soon. Another slick and great tune. Tom’s vocals aren't strained or tested here but fit the tense and bluesy aesthetic of the track. The percussion made it extra special.

"Bay City"

Funky, stunning voice and insanely 80s, but with a japanese shymalanian twist! Never really been one for 80s pop but this one was fun and felt pretty classy.
