04.23.18 | God these bands suck. |
DinosaurJones
04.23.18 | Agree with some, sharply disagree with some others.
But hey, that's just, like... your opinion, man. |
DadKungFu
04.23.18 | Wilco is such a hot trash white bread boring-ass lame fucking band god damn. |
JWT155
04.23.18 | Cage is amazing live. |
JasonCarne
04.23.18 | JWT155 - That's the argument I've heard for most of these bands - but if your visuals are better than your music...you might be a shit band. |
Demon of the Fall
04.23.18 | 7, 11 & 15 were essential for this list... Solid list although I’m not familiar with a few of these. |
chemicalmarriage
04.23.18 | 3 is incredible. Derek Trucks is one of the best guitar players around. |
DinosaurJones
04.23.18 | For real though, I saw the Tedeschi Trucks band a few weeks ago, that dude shreds. |
JWT155
04.23.18 | I'd hardly say it's a visual thing at all, they have lots of energy and their music sounds great live. They're just a great live band. Some bands are just much better experiencing in the flesh than on a turntable. |
BlazinBlitzer
04.23.18 | Would Phish and Dave Matthews Band count or are they too good for this list? |
guitarded_chuck
04.23.18 | ~~*stay posi*~~ |
ZombieToyDuck
04.23.18 | ah man 6 and 12 are great though Cage the Elephant really have been sinking in quality... |
Trophycase
04.23.18 | Missing Fitz and the Tantrums |
JasonCarne
04.23.18 | Phish and Dave Matthews definitely fit the bill for this stuff too, they've just been mainstays for a few decades now so I figured they were kind of a given. |
Dylan620
04.23.18 | Didn't expect this list to take a bite out of the jam circuit :/
2 and especially 4 are fantastic live |
GhostB1rd
04.23.18 | Florence is amazing you cunt. |
JasonCarne
04.23.18 | Amazingly bland and overrated. |
Sharkattack
04.23.18 | Agree with all of this |
JasonCarne
04.23.18 | I kinda want to add The National, Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails too, but I can only piss off so many people at a time. |
BigHans
04.23.18 | Phish |
theBoneyKing
04.23.18 | Most of these are spot-on but I am mad triggered by Wilco and Phosphorescent being on here. |
DoofusWainwright
04.23.18 | Yeah, Wilco is below the belt - they have one of the most lauded discographies of the last two decades :/
Most of the rest are pretty bad though, 9 and 11 I've never got the hype |
Sharkattack
04.23.18 | @jason carne yes add them. It’s accurate. |
JasonCarne
04.24.18 | Doof, I've truly never seen someone mention any of Wilco's material aside from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot - an album that came out 16 years ago now, why are they still headlining festivals? Maybe they have decent material on some of their higher rated albums here, but the last few were major turds. |
goy
04.24.18 | fantastic list. needs moar the granddaddy of all of these- Grateful Dead |
DoofusWainwright
04.24.18 | In some degree of agreement with you Jason - Being There, Summerteeth, YHF and half of A Ghost is Born were all great...then they went off the boil a bit.
That's still quite a lot of 'classic material' to dip into - even if they have fallen into Rolling Stones mode real early, the one where you release a new album with just one or two songs worthy of putting into your live setlist. |
Sinternet
04.24.18 | retarded list |
Asdfp277
04.24.18 | >florence + the machine
who hurt you son |
DinosaurJones
04.24.18 | "I don't like these bands, and a lot of people like to see them live. They suck." |
JasonCarne
04.25.18 | That's pretty much the crux of it Dino. |
DinosaurJones
04.25.18 | You know what though, props to you for admitting it, even if I disagree. Can't even be mad at that. |
AlexKzillion
04.25.18 | Tight list broski m/// |
Demon of the Fall
04.25.18 | Admitting it is the first step towards dealing with the problem |
DinosaurJones
04.25.18 | but fr, fuck u for a bunch of these. (not really, music taste is subjective) |
JasonCarne
04.25.18 | 1 and 4 are the ones that bother me the most, I've never met a single person (in real life) that likes either of these bands, yet somehow they're the headliners on like 10 different fests every year. Seriously, who are the people who are really like "Yes, I NEED to see The String Cheese Incident!". |
DinosaurJones
04.25.18 | If we're being honest, I've never heard of 4. And I don't know anyone that listens to 1 either. |
JasonCarne
04.26.18 | Added a few more that annoy me. |
furpa
04.26.18 | Honestly I've always been surprised at how big The National is among festivals. I love them, don't get me wrong, but I never understood how their vibe lent itself to a big summer fest lol. |
JasonCarne
04.26.18 | Furpa, exactly my point with them - they're alright (not my kind of thing, but w/e), but who would want to stand there for 90 minutes watching this mellow/quiet rock band at a fest that is supposed to be "fun"? It makes sense to see them in a theater or something, where it's just them and an opener, where you can sit and chill. |
DamnVanne
06.01.18 | I saw The National close out a festival at The Gorge, one of the most beautiful venues on the earth and it was painfully boring. Incomprehensible. Just baffling |
ArsMoriendi
06.01.18 | Wilco rules! At least their older stuff does
Nine Inch Nails is legendary
LCD Soundsystem and MGMT are fun
boo this list boo |
JasonCarne
06.02.18 | NIN has been boring for decades. "Fun" is about the best explanation I can see for LCD or MGMT - I don't think their music is any good really, but I can see the appeal for a certain crowd in a live setting I guess. |
ArsMoriendi
06.02.18 | "NIN has been boring for decades."
Year Zero is one of my 5s... and that's from 2007 |
peekatoad
09.12.19 | 24 around the time In Return came out, they were super solid live. Haven't gotten into their new album |
foxblood
09.12.19 | ok but Phosphorescent is a very odd choice they are a legit good band and not even that well known, not a generic crappy festival hipster band |
EclipseInYourEyes
09.12.19 | I will ignore NIN being on this list and just add "Zebrahead". And nearly every German band including Rammstein cuz all of 'em aren't firm with the word "creativity". |
DamnVanne
09.12.19 | It’s almost as if indie rock is fundamentally made by shallow pasty dorks for shallow pasty dorks |
Source
09.12.19 | qotsa? |
AlexKzillion
09.12.19 | Yeah lmao how on earth is qotsa on here while tame impala isn’t? |
bloc
09.12.19 | Literally about to comment Tame Impala lol |
peekatoad
09.12.19 | Tame impala for sure. I do not get why people like them |
peekatoad
09.12.19 | Also, Excision and Skrillex |
Sinternet
09.12.19 | rather ironic coming from a bassnectar fan |
peekatoad
09.12.19 | I saw that coming... and i have no explanation |
Rowhaus
09.12.19 | Odesza is the dullest music I've ever heard. You can definitely score chicks at their shows tho so I guess that's a plus? |
iglu
09.12.19 | it's always metalheads |
peekatoad
09.12.19 | Yup |
ArsMoriendi
09.13.19 | Nine Inch Nails? Wilco? What?
Also I love how you included every major jam band post-1990 |
ArsMoriendi
09.13.19 | Wait this list is old as fuck |
Boognish79
10.17.20 | In my opinion there’s some great bands in there who have great studio albums and live shows. To each their own. |
Boognish79
07.11.21 | You’re an idiot. Most of these bands are phenomenal. Your arrogance and ignorance are showing. |
sixdegrees
07.11.21 | One year later |
Ryus
07.11.21 | the boognish beatdown |
ArsMoriendi
07.11.21 | tbh his name is Boognish, so I approve even if he has numbers on his username |
fogza
07.11.21 | I saw Wilco live 2 years ago and they were incredible. |
Emim
07.11.21 | I saw a dog today. |
fogza
07.11.21 | Was it an incredible dog? |
Emim
07.11.21 | He was a good boy. |
