04.19.07 | I don't think that any of these bassist needs more recognition. They haven't done anything special or that good. To me they always followed the rythm of the guitar and that sucks. 1 suck IMO. The only correct bass line I've heard from him is on ''What Drives The Weak'' pre chorus. The others are ok but they're not underrated. |

04.19.07 | ^^^ Screw that, I think 1's a great bassist. |

04.19.07 | I definitely agree with 4.
partly with 5 and 6 as well. |

04.19.07 | foodforthegods, try actually listening to the artists in question before you say they "haven't done anything special or good."
1. most of shadows fall's material has interesting basslines, especially in the more subdued parts, it's not always immediately audible due to production, but its there.
2. i cannot think of ONE SINGLE descendents song where karl follows the guitar. listen to any of the albums they've done on epitaph or fatwreck (their self-produced stuff basically), and you'll see exactly what i mean. same goes for ALL.
3. very interesting and unexpected fills, listen especially on the "element of sonic defiance" EP.
4. some of the catchiest ska basslines ever written, combined with the fact he's often singing at the same damn time.
5. wilson's basslines often carried the melody of a whole sublime song, and were rarely, if ever, following the guitar. check out "santeria" especially.
6. "sacrifice theory." i don't even need to say any more.
7. admittedly he's toned it down recently, but the first three alk3 albums, and the first singles collection have some insane basslines.
8. always throwing in interesting fills, and even quite an impressive solo on the "against the grain" album if i remember correctly. add this to the fact that he quite literally DOES NOT STOP throwing himself around when playing live. takes some skill to keep playing tight in that situation, and he pulls it off.
9. switches between fingerpicking and slapping , rarely follows the guitars, but is somehow almost always at the forefront of the sound.
10. "fuel for the hate game" - again, i don't need to say any more.
the uniting point of all these guys is that they never overplay. their playing is always impressive, but never takes away from the rest of the song. |

04.19.07 | I've you ever played bass? |
Foodforthegods
04.19.07 | Plus I didn't say they are bad(Except 1). I just say they're ordinary bass player. They're not better than the average. Check out Steve Digiorgio(for metal bassplaying, Tony Levin, Billy Sheehan. Geezer Butler, Cliff Burton, etc... |
The Door Mouse
04.19.07 | I definitely agree with 5 but John Myung needs to be on here |
Yazz_Flute
04.19.07 | Where's John Myung? |

04.19.07 | i've played bass for about 6 years now, and yes i have heard of all the ones you've mentioned there. they're not underrated, because on EVERY BASS FORUM/SITE EVERYWHERE people jizz themselves about how great they are all the time!!! and i'd argue that some of them over-play, if anything. |
RandyfromPennywise
04.19.07 | How you going man? Yeah I've been playing bass for six years too.
I definitely agree with #2, he is really, really inventive within the confines of Punk. Original Me is the first one that comes to mind. I remember about three years ago I tried to learn it by ear... no chance! Behind the guitar he's all over the place.
I only know 3 + 8 well apart from 2, I'd say both are good but I haven't seen anything truly impressive from either. Not in the Fat Mike or Matt Freeman or Lex Feltham range anyway.
But good stuff. |

04.19.07 | James Jamerson is a good exemple of an underrated bassplayer. He just create a revolution in bass playing during the 70's |
the_patient
04.19.07 | John Deacon from Queen
Didn't get noticed much, but listen to their most popular singles and it's obvious he was very technical. He also wrote some of the best basslines ever. |
muchtallerthanu
04.19.07 | Hunter isn't underrated. Good, but not underrated. |
LifeInABox
04.20.07 | agree wit 1 and 9. the rest i don't really know too well |
Bfhurricane
04.20.07 | #6, Hunter, is the only guy on here I know. Hes a great bassist, hes confident in boosting the treble up and playing his catchy beats. |
Ruthlessgrunge
04.20.07 | Eric Wilson is fricken sweet man. |
