another good one is 6 where Freddy explodes the hearing aid in the deaf guy's head and his whole head explodes. just cinematic genius |
gryndstone
10.18.20 | guy getting split in half in bone tomahawk was very pog. I'll fix the nightmare number |
Emim
10.18.20 | Honestly the one that's stuck with me the longest is when the guy gets eaten by the giant worm in King Kong. Not the most gory or inventive but it just gives me the damn willys every time. |

10.18.20 | cool list. i have the same sentiments about 9; dogshit movie but that one death scene is very hard to watch, mostly because of his screaming. I saw 2 in theaters and yeah, that scene is holy shit disturbing
The Thing (1982) blood test scene has the young dude getting flailed around by the neck and then getting his face ripped off. Mosquito (1995) has a guy getting stabbed in the eye by a giant mosquito proboscis. There's also the facemelting scene in The Fly 2. |

TheSonomaDude
10.18.20 | agreed. i love cabin fever so much but he's never matched it again. i did really like the house with the clock in the walls tho. i think he's got great ideas and he's a good director, but his massive ego gets in the way. |

10.18.20 | e roth is miss & miss for me |
JayEnder
10.18.20 | Yeesh, the old people suicide one was hard to watch.
The cult's reaction after the second dude falls... Chilling stuff. |
porcupinetheater
10.18.20 | Yeah, speaking of gulp deaths from otherwise shit movies, the rats eating that dude's legs in Deathwatch always gets me
Suspiria, original and remake, got some great stuff too. But Sara's from the original, the entire sequence from setting up the eeriness by distorting the image through the light bulb and then following her through monochromatic, primary colored rooms while that Goblin soundtrack scratches at the door is pretty much the perfect horror sequence |
Egarran
10.18.20 | That one scene in Dagon. It's all b-fun and games until a motherfucker gets his face cut off. |
porcupinetheater
10.18.20 | Also Kill List |

10.18.20 | I was actually gonna say Olga in Suspiria '18 but she doesn't actually die in that scene

10.18.20 | For horror films, I always liked the villainous Captain Rhodes being literally ripped in half by zombies (after he's been shot multiple times by Bub, the lovable zombie). And as the zombies drag the lower half of his body down the hall, and begin to tear into his upper half, a dying but defiant Rhodes rasps, "Choke on them! Choke on them! Choke on them!"
Most satisfying death of an action film villain - The Night Slasher's death in the admittedly lame film Cobra, where Stallone impales him on a huge meathook, which drags him backwards into a furnace, where he's burned alive. Now that's entertainment! |
gryndstone
10.18.20 | yeah that Midsommar scene sets the tone for the rest of the movie. The way the sound goes from normal to muted to silence and then back is genius |

Scanners is very gnarly as a movie, but there's no individual death that is particularly gnar |
TheAntichrist
10.18.20 | i like that one movie where the guy dies by the other guy. that was the best part of the movie |

10.18.20 | I didn’t mention because I figured someone else would have, but Kane from Alien is the most obvious one imo.
And since Midsommar is listed I think *that* scene in Hereditary should get mentioned. That movie was fucking brutal |
LeddSledd
10.18.20 | i was super hungry before i saw these scenes
i don't have much of an appetite anymore |

10.18.20 | Something on the more cartoony side that fucked me up was Andy Serkis’ giant leech death in King Kong. |

10.18.20 | sorry leddsledd
yeah someone up above mentioned the big worms in king kong. kinda fucked up |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.18.20 | Terminator 3 is weak but the scene where the TX takes out those FBI suits in the car was pretty gnarly. |

bobbydylan
10.18.20 | bro, literally any death from a Lucio Fulci movie, but the splinter scene from Zombie, the spider scene from The Beyond, the razor scene in THe New York Ripper, and the poker scene from The House By The Cemetery in particular.
|
MGChops
10.18.20 | There are some pretty excellent deaths on this list (Bone Tomahawk in particular - great film), but I made an account just to say that one must do an astronomical amount of mental gymnastics to be able to stomach the first 1/3 of The Nightingale. |
Lord(e)Po)))ts
10.18.20 | The ones of these i have seen make me scared to watch the ones I haven't |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.18.20 | I forgot about the Nightingale.
Yeah, that’s a quality reason to want revenge.
|
brainmelter
10.18.20 | That scene in Bone Tomahawk is just fucked obviously but it isn’t the worst thing, it’s just super out of nowhere and I guess that’s why it’s so jarring for a lot of people. I mean I thought we were talking casual movies because there is easily more depraved kills in film |
gryndstone
10.18.20 | It's just a lot
They put a lot of effort into making it as realistic as possible |
TheSonomaDude
10.18.20 | Bone tomahawk...great film. lack of any musical score gives it such a foreboding feeling. |
Ecnalzen
10.19.20 | That scalp/bisection kill from Bone Tomahawk messed me up for a few days. I couldn't get the scene out of my head and had to keep shaking it out until it faded away
I was not expecting that based off how the rest of the movie had been going
|
Ecnalzen
10.19.20 | There's a movie called Terrifier with a serial killer clown that hangs a woman from her feet and saws her in half from her crotch down. Pretty much the whole movie is just graphic kill scenes and awful dialogue
It's kind of a terrible movie, but if you are a gore hound, you might get something out of it |
JayEnder
10.19.20 | Bone Tomahawk one was fucking brutal.
Ugh, whoever brought up the worms from King Kong ruined my appetite. That entire pit of bugs scene makes my skin crawl. |
RogueNine
10.19.20 | My definition of gnarly must be different. |

10.19.20 | Sorry Jay :( |

10.19.20 | In Midommar when they rip open that dudes ribcage and suspend his lungs out behind him like wings. |

Inoculaeted
10.19.20 | True, but can't imagine that lasts too long. |

10.19.20 | That kill reminded me a lot of the Hannibal series. Almost artistic in a very dark way. |
Egarran
10.19.20 | Growing up I was most traumatized by some of the deaths in James Bond.
A bad guy invariably had a slow, painful death, and then Bond would make some lousy pun.
It eventually made me cold to human suffering. |
TheSonomaDude
10.19.20 | well james bond is probably a sociopath so it makes sense that he's conditioning audiences to be just as cold |
