✊ May 2022 Song of the Day: LIVE 🍺

HEYO how y'all doing?! Good? Good. This is the Song of the Day thread, where you rec a song, and rate/wreck other people's songs. All you sweeties are welcome, even if you haven't participated in previous months! This month, I wanna FEEL! I wanna HAVE FUN! I want YOU to rec a live song , I want YOU to rec a song that wasn't recorded in a studio! Please list the artist, the song and a link where people can go to hear it. The link to this month's worksheet is: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yo9Aj7t1IZwG41xFgX9kzIugIsVckENq5RnQace1WDw/edit#gid=1672247319

The Francophone GOAT? Might well be.

Here's a translation of the lyric for y'all babes: https://genius.com/Genius-english-translations-jacques-brel-amsterdam-english-translation-lyrics
BUT I strongly advise to watch this king sing. A transcendental experience.

This is how you introduce yourself to the world!!!

"My Generation" (zakalwe)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EzK02LDkpIc

The section from 8mins onwards to the conclusion is the absolute pinnacle of caterwauling, raucous, unconstrained, rock n roll.

Absolutely fucking amazing.

"Lion Song" (neekafat)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17y61moT-IE

A favorite of my dad's, and a favorite of mine. Absolutely sublime lowkey folk with beautiful vocal and guitar harmonies.

"Enter the Mirror" (Johnny)

absolute alltime classic for our peasant ears
8Johnny Clegg
African Litany

"Impi" (fogza)

https://youtu.be/AXHzi6bXQf8

Video quality is not great but I guess it was 1983 in South Africa. Still gives me chills thinking about how significant these performances must have been.

Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water

"Sanitarium (Welcome Home)" (Vercetti)

https://youtu.be/Q2F5piurv-0

Love that the video also includes the reactions of Metallica (who of course wrote the song). I believe the guitarist in the video is actually Mike Smith (from Snot) since their usual guitarist Wes Borland wasn't in the band during that time (2003).

"Churchdust" (garas)

I don't know exactly on which concert was it recorded, but I know this is an excellent live improvisation. Volume up, and enjoy the horror.

"Bright Whites" (Pangea)

https://youtu.be/BgqAmZHkkTg?t=376 (link starts at the song (6:16) and the song ends at 11:50)

Couldn't find an individual video for this one, but i love this Kishi Bashi performance at NPR tiny desk of his song bright whites. He does such a great job of making a performance sound full and interesting on his own with various loops and beatboxing.
13Dan Deacon
Gliss Riffer

"Sheathed Wings" (someone)

https://youtu.be/heFRwLfjVXI

i might have to do something unusual and rec a whole performance, because there are two live shows i wish i were present for. i am torn between Heilung's Lifa and Dan Deacon's NPR Tiny Music Desk performance. the latter is the more accessible, straightworward, fun rec, but mane them both be quite ridiculous. if you are asking for live recordings, you should also expect to see the show, because that is a major part of the performance
14Chick Corea
Now He Sings, Now He Sobs

"Old Castle, By the River, In the Middle of the Forest" (Koris)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaNk19CQfto

This one goes out to the jazz fans (sorry Fogza)! Beautiful medley with Hiromi and Chick Corea... the way they feed off each other's energies is wonderful, as if they're having a conversation purely through music
15The Highwaymen
Highwayman

"Highwayman" (Egarran)

https://youtu.be/bMdeg-WKt1U

I see your jazz and out-boomer you with a country song about reincarnation from four of the masters. Guess which one of them liked LSD. Always loved this haunting song.
