05.03.22 | i might have to do something unusual and rec a whole performance, because there are two live shows i wish i were present for. i am torn between Heilung's Lifa and Dan Deacon's NPR Tiny Music Desk performance. the latter is the more accessible, straightworward, fun rec, but mane them both be quite ridiculous. if you are asking for live recordings, you should also expect to see the show, because that is a major part of the performance

"Kick Out the Jams"
The opening line "kick out the jams motherfucker!" is the best part of the song honestly by far. The rest is just like typical 60s hard rock. Good, but not great.
3.1/5
"My Generation"
His generation is baby boomers. Sadly those same baby boomers grew up to put down the following generations just as their forefathers had, so this song rings as pure irony nowadays. Oh, it's a medley. I wish I liked The Who more, but they're easily my least favorite of the British Invasion big 4. Beatles > Kinks > Stones > Who. Now it's just a long jam section. Can this end already? Who do they think they are Led Zeppelin? God will this song end already Jesus. I was gonna do a higher score at first, but this jam is just boring. THERE I SAID IT THE WHO KINDA SUCKS OKAY? Now go jam The Kinks like one of the cool kids.

18. Change Has Come - I got really worried when the musicians were all having seizures but I'm impressed they still finished the song. 3.0 |

05.20.22 | Churchdust: Awesome band. Saw them live once and my intestines are still shaking. A video would have been good indeed. 4/5
Bright Whites: Love Kishi and he's obviously a genius. I want to to be his violin in the next life. 4.5/5
Sheathed Wings: I can definitely see the appeal, but this quickly became intolerable for me. I lasted 2 minutes! 2/5
Old Castle, By the River, In the Middle of the Forest: Yeah that's alright. The video is great. She's so happy! 4/5 |

05.22.22 | 22. Paradise Lost: One Second - I would not add this to any playlists or anything BUT I appreciate the vocalist of some form of metal band not showboating or doing anything silly, and actually managing to convey something within a normal range of emotion. 3 |

05.22.22 | "Lion Song"
This is pleasant. I don't think too much of this, but it's short and nice.
3.5/5
"Enter the Mirror"
Kinda jammy guitar so far. I like the buzzing. This reminds me of something, but I can't place what. See, this is almost 12 minutes, but I'm fairly engaged, so I think that means it's awesome. I like the vocals a lot, they make the song feel hypnotic.
4.2/5
"Impi"
This sounds very anthemic, but also quite 80s pop. Kinda boring honestly.
2.5/5
"Sanitarium (Welcome Home)"
A nu-metal band covering thrash metal. Double pass. I can just smell the greasy hair. I'd rather just hear a Limp Bizkit original honestly.
1.8/5
"Shipwrecked Frontier Pioneer"
Annoying vocals, drum abuse, shreddy guitars, inaudible bass and it's almost 8-minutes long. Can I skip this one? I guess that's up to me, so I'll hold on. During the slow section I can hear the bass and it's just following the drums with no variation. Man, it's not even just the vocals I don't like it's actually everything. Holy shit, there are still 3 minutes left.
1.5/5 |

05.22.22 | "Churchdust"
Screaming and feedback drone...okay. This is oddly tolerable now that the vocals came in. I'm feeling generous.
3/5
"Bright Whites"
I wasn't big on Lightght when I heard it a few times, and this isn't really an exception, but it's still nice. Weird beatboxing hmmm. I like it. Maybe I'll revisit his music one day...
3.9/5
"Sheathed Wings"
It's song of the day, not concert of the day. Follow the rules. 0/5. FINE I'll give the first song a rating because I mean you were only supposed to pick 1 song so. This has synth jew's harps and heavily vocoded vocals and some peppy piano. I hate this honestly because it sounds like that YouTube trend where the video title would be like "what if I made this scene from a cartoon sung" and some shitty audio software is laid over the dialogue and you want me to listen to multiple songs of this? But seriously, pick one song next time. The fact you picked an entire concert made me go into this extra annoyed. At least when I rec'd a 24 min video, it was 1 song.

05.24.22 | 24. Iron Maiden: Killers - I used to go to quiz at a biker bar every Tuesday. The biker who put the quiz together would play snippets of songs during the quiz, and you'd have to guess the name of the song, or the artist, or whatever. The last song was ALWAYS Iron Maiden, and they'd always play the whole song once the quiz was concluded. I never felt the urge to seek out anything else by Iron Maiden despite this weekly introduction to their music. 2.5 |

05.25.22 | 25. The mothers of invention: Echidna's Arf (Of You) - Like an exercise of stop start and call and response. I don't really like the tones and sounds of some of the instruments. I guess if you like something that's too intrusive to be background music but just sounds like everyone is testing out whether they can respond to each other then this your bag. 2.5 |

05.25.22 | 25. Echidna's Arf (Of You) - I too, am Arf of you! Like fogzy, some tones weren't pleasing to my peasant ears, but I like the funky/wacky vibe. 3.1 |

05.27.22 | "Old Castle, By the River, In the Middle of the Forest"
So it's piano jazz improv between two players. I think this is impressive, but it's almost not really the kind of music I go for. Damn though it's still impressive, like a battle of wits. Uehara taking the lead while Corea mostly backs her up is such an interesting choice since he's the more famous influential jazz musician. Occasionally he'll lead, but clearly, he's trying to support her vision of this song rather than the other way around. I'm not much for improv jazz, but I was thoroughly entertained.
4.3/5
"Highwayman"
Well, this is hokey. I mean I don't hate it, but I don't think I ever need hear it again.
3/5
"Sugar Mountain"
Pleasant folky guitar, which isn't surprising. I never really liked Young's voice. This is fine.
3/5
"A Quiet Life"
I hate his voice? The cello is pretty though and the violins are nice enough. Can this end? Oh my god, I'm not even at the 3-minute mark. WHAT THE FUCK IS HE DOING WITH VOICE? This is like some drunk elderly dude doing karaoke over pretty music.
1.5/5
"Change Has Come"
Some it's some abstract jazz with a violin, drums, trumpet, and saxophone. Hmm okay. Very solid, but not really my thing. I'm weird wish jazz idk.
3.5/5
"Pull My Strings"
I wish I liked these guys more. "Holiday in Cambodia" is a classic, but man, most stuff I've heard by them isn't engaging. Clearly, they hate The Knack lol. Is it wrong if I find "My Sharona" way more listenable than this? Jello Biafra is clearly cool, but uh idk. Actually, I just skimmed "My Sharona" and it's awful...I don't remember it being THIS bad WHAT THE HELL? +.1 for proving your point Dead Kennedys.
2.5/5
"Kauonding Sissoko"
Ooh, pretty banjo. I like this, it's placid, but not at all boring. I googled the other instrument and it's called a kora and it's simply lovely too.
4.5/5 |
ArsMoriendi
05.27.22 | “I Don’t Know You At All”
Whiny and boring. Nothing else to say about that.
2/5
"One Second"
Is this modern radio rock? This is so boring.
2.5/5
"Genie"
I mean what is there even to say about this, it's just like commercial alt rock. Slight ska punk beat there, I mean I'm trying here, but these last few have been very bland. C'mon surprise me somehow, this is my first time hearing this song, but it feels like I've heard it a million times by a million different artists.
2.4/5
"Killers"
I may not lke Iron Maiden, but at least this feels inspired unlike those last 3. Some metal shredding and surprisingly good bass. Bass kinda calmed down and the guitar is masturbating all over the place. Eh okay.
2.7/5
"The Curse"
Very pretty so far. A bit sparse for me. Strings are always cool though.
3.6/5
"Virtute the Cat Explains Her Departure"
An engaging melody so far. Do I love this? No. Do I like this? A little yeah.

05.29.22 | 29. Keiji Haino: Fushitsusha - Live II - I got a bit bored at the 5 minute mark and aborted listening to this, sounds like the aural equivalent of when all 1st year art students here started creating diaromas that included dollparts and fake blood. 2 |

Sugar Mountain - I like Neil Young but only as a person. Never found anything in his music. 3/5

Kauonding Sissoko - Yeah you show that banjo who's boss. But this is very nice. Almost Kishi-ish. 3.8/5
I Don't Know You At All - I have many problems with this, but the biggest is that mall keyboard. Like why TF. 2.5/5
