You're probably going to have to go waaaaay back to find the best of Country music. Like 50's/60's back; talking Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Buffet, etc., all of which have good stuff. The modern folks that have a long history in country have some gems, as well--Reba McIntyre, Garth Brooks, George Strait all have albums in their catalogue worth owning even if you aren't a country fan.
Really, though...if all you got was Johnny Cash, I wouldn't blame you. But he's essential no matter what. |

10.01.13 | I am trying to remember the name of one countryish album and I can't recall the name but it is a white album cover with grey mountains in the background. I sometimes see it around /mu/ as well. Anyone know the album? |

10.01.13 | In today's country music genre "good" doesn't exist. Tolerable at best, maybe. Real country music like Johnny Cash era can be good sometimes. |

10.01.13 | Listen to Marty Robbins. I think the album is called cowboys and gunfights or something. It's old school country western and it really is excellent and I don't even like Country. I also second Jonny Cash and Willie Nelson. |

10.01.13 | Alot of Ryan Adams work is very country-tinged. Check out Heartbreaker, Cold Roses, and Jacksonville City Nights for the country side. Love is Hell is his best album imo though.. |

10.02.13 | These aren't strictly country, but you might give them a shot:
The Departed - Adventus
The Wild Feathers - The Wild Feathers
Also, John Mayer's album Born and Raised has a country vibe to it, and it's pretty good.
Whatever you do, don't listen to Florida Georgia Line, Eric Church, or Jason Aldean. They are much worse than the two you listed. |
