12.02.12 | I'm a scotch guy myself, but it's obviously expensive as hell to get great stuff. Glenfiddich 15 year is one of my favs though. As far as more standard stuff, Evan Williams is an awesomely priced whiskey for the taste, as is Seagram's Gin which is great for G&Ts, though I get Bombay Sapphire when the price is right (love bombay), and it's awesome for martinis.
I guess I'm mostly a whiskey and gin guy. If I get rum I get spiced rum, usually the kraken or Sailor Jerry if I'm just mixing rum and cokes. Vodka is boring as shit, and I don't like tequila much. |

DotEight
12.02.12 | "does it? damn i gotta try that. i despise the taste of vodka on its own, thats why i like it with oj since it pretty much cancels out the taste."
It all depends on the amount. Just fill a normal glass a little over half with MD, and then add 3-4 shots of vodka and mix well. Adding ice helps too. |
TMobotron
12.02.12 | The problem with vodka is that for the most part, its intent is to be as flavorless as possible and just provide alcohol. In so many drinks, it exists only to be the alcohol content. So you mix it with mountain dew, and it just makes a mountain dew that tastes slightly worse, or you mix it with OJ because OJ covers up its taste well (screwdrivers ARE awesome though).
I like alcohol where you can actually make a drink with a unique taste out of them, like G&Ts. The main thing I ever use vodka for is to make white russians, which are incredible. |
jdennis31
12.02.12 | yea but any unique flavor that is created just tastes like a crappy version of something that would taste better with no alcohol in it |

Kahlua is really good since it's already mixed, but it's way too expensive for the amount of alcohol that's in it. |
TMobotron
12.02.12 | "yea but any unique flavor that is created just tastes like a crappy version of something that would taste better with no alcohol in it"
I don't necessarily think so, I keep using this but G&Ts can pretty much only exist with gin, and it's a delicious drink. Tonic water on its own sucks ass, but with gin (and lime) it's amazing. And in any case it makes a better drink than just pouring vodka into something that was good.
I also think with great scotches (and beers) you're getting a flavor that's unique to that drink. I enjoy the actual drinking as much as getting drunk from it personally, I just don't understand trying to make some alcoholic drink that basically tastes like a good drink with rubbing alcohol in it. Your drink should be good. |
jdennis31
12.02.12 | ahh, gin was the first alcohol to ever touch my lips and it was so bad that i never tried it again. the best tasting mix drink i've ever had was pineapple upside down cakes which was delicious but got me sick quick like |
InfamousGrouse
12.02.12 | Yeah it costs 12-15 quid for a bottle of Kahlua here which is so steep considering the limited use it has in mixing drinks except for caucasians.
Grey Goose is the shit, but overpriced.

Nice man! Hope you love that shit, I certainly do. What's the mix ratio you're using.
And @ DotEight, yeah Kahlua is expensive as hell. I'd bet any generic coffee liqueur would work well in a white russian though, the kahlua provides a defining taste but I don't think something more harsh would really throw off the flavor much at all. |
DotEight
12.02.12 | "Grey Goose is the shit, but overpriced."
When I have a bottle, I drink it sparingly. It's about $30 for a liter bottle around here. I mean it's not too bad considering how amazing it is, but if I'm just wanting to get drunk, I'll stick to something cheaper like Wild Turkey. |
DotEight
12.02.12 | "And @ DotEight, yeah Kahlua is expensive as hell. I'd bet any generic coffee liqueur would work well in a white russian though, the kahlua provides a defining taste but I don't think something more harsh would really throw off the flavor much at all."

12.02.12 | "ahh, gin was the first alcohol to ever touch my lips and it was so bad that i never tried it again. the best tasting mix drink i've ever had was pineapple upside down cakes which was delicious but got me sick quick like"
Dude if it was the first alcohol I tasted I'd probably hate it too. You should try a gin and tonic or gin and juice mix sometime though, I love that shit. I think gin and juice is pretty much one of the easiest things to drink when mixing heavily, like vodka OJ.
"Sapphire is the only gin I can handle. It's really weird tasting I agree. Gin is a liquor you definitely have to mix with something."
Y'know it's fucking difficult to get into it, but I actually really love martinis which are mostly just the gin taste. It definitely has to be a reasonably nice gin though like sapphire or tanqueray. I don't think gin has to be mixed with something necessarily but I completely get why people don't like martinis. |
InfamousGrouse
12.02.12 | If I'm making a white russian I generally go 2:1 with the vodka and kahlua. Having used several cheaper coffee liquors in the past I think it's the best mixer to use.
30 for a litre is actually really cheap, it's at least 35 for 70cl over here. No idea what Wild Turkey is but assumably it's one of the cheapest available. As a student, I can relate! |

12.02.12 | "I mean it's like 11% and a normal bottle is around $15 here, it's ridiculous. It's good for the taste but I don't know where they base their prices."
It's obviously not priced on the alcohol content, and $15 would be damn cheap for it where I live. But yeah it's a liqueur so it's more about what the flavor is, but a lot of it is also just about the fact that everyone knows kahlua by name. Same thing is true for most alcohol BTW, which is something to remember. Like I think Svedka vodka is way better than Smirnoff, but Smirnoff is usually slightly more expensive just because it's smirnoff. |

You're kidding me, right? Yuengling is passable, but go find yourself a craft beer, then cry and realize how far on the low end of mediocre Yuengling is. Nugget Nectar is a personal favorite, though it's (unfortunately) only brewed in February. Sad that you lot are only getting Yuengling recently. I'm close enough to Pottstown that it's plentiful, but there's so many craft breweries around too, it's wonderful.
As for liquor, I prefer a scotch on the rocks. I seem to prefer blendeds to single malts, go figure. Dewars White or Johnnie Walker Red suits me just fine.

"the microphones = expensive bourbon
kesha = burnett's"
The Microphones = expensive scotch
Kesha = Evan Williams
Brokencyde = Burnett's
Cheapest whiskey I'll buy (not necessarily drink) is Jack or Bulleit. SoCo and Crown are too sugary and Even Williams sucks up the ass.

12.03.12 | Not really a fan of mixing whiskey. Would rather use cheap vodka or something.
Good call with Tanqueray vodka. Stuff's not bad. Neither is Appleton Estate. Favorite vodkas are probably Level and Belvedere. |

12.03.12 | The Tanqueray vodka is pretty premium for it's price point.

I fucking love a good burbon/whiskey and Cola. Especially a premium small batch cane cola. That short lived RedBull Cola was pretty bad ass. |

12.11.12 | "glad we live in a country where violence in a bottle is legal"
Depends on the person... obviously since you believe this is true you must be a violent drunk.
"weed that makes you fall asleep isn't"
This also depends on the person. I've had friends who use it to fall asleep and friends who use it to not fall asleep (never tried it myself because, I'm not in high school anymore). And honestly, I wish they would legalize it so potheads have nothing to talk about ever again.
"there is a reason they call them COCKtails. strictly 4 fags and women."
... It's a drink... Are we really stereotyping people by drinks now?
I like Vodka the most probably. I've tried Wild Turkey a couple times... it's good for if you are just trying to get drunk Xp lol |
