02.23.18 | list is digs
oh no it's not snowing as hard anymore now, i was kind of enjoying that |
DarkSideOfLucca
02.23.18 | It was pretty good but it wasn't the most innovative, ridiculous comic movie ever like some are claiming |
Ignimbrite
02.23.18 | i mean sure it wasn't super innovative, but i'd definitely rank it in my top 5 CBMs pretty easily. it just felt to me like a ton of real passion and care was put into it compared to a lot of other Marvel titles, regardless of how original it was or wasn't. |
MrSirLordGentleman
02.23.18 | it was decent, specially for a marvel movie. But that's it |

02.23.18 | it really doesn't work, that's the long and short of it. |
DarkSideOfLucca
02.23.18 | Top 5 comic movies or MCU? Top 5 MCU maybe but I would STRONGLY disagree with top 5 comic movies. |
Keyblade
02.23.18 | saw it for the 3rd time today. really appreciated the score this time around. love the Wakanda and Killmonger themes in particular |
DominionMM1
02.23.18 | heard good things about this. will check when it's available via streaming.
i didn't think it snowed much in Vancouver, prison mike. |
Ignimbrite
02.23.18 | Definitely top 5 MCU, *maybe* top 5 overall but that might be at least partially recency bias speaking
Idk, maybe I should've titled this list "I really enjoyed Black Panther" |
Keyblade
02.23.18 | top 5 comic book movies is really just mcu + dark knight 😂 |
Space Jester
02.23.18 | I didn’t love it, it was just alright. I didn’t really feel anything for the whole movie.i |
Ignimbrite
02.23.18 | @Dominion: it doesn't, that's what makes days like this fun for me and hell on earth for anyone using the transit system
@Keyblade: agreed so hard. I can't get enough of the Killmonger theme, can't say I ever would've imagined trap music being incorporated so well into a score like this |
DarkSideOfLucca
02.23.18 | I dunno, Logan, Deadpool, The Dark Knight/Batman Begins, Blade 2 (seeing that in theaters was nuts), Spider-Man 2, Winter Soldier, X2, etc
I mean I really enjoyed Black Panther but personally I don't think it touched any of those and some others I'm forgetting |

ScuroFantasma
02.23.18 | Saw it for the second time last night, enjoyed it a little more this time. Overall it was alright, some really stupid moments took me out of the movie though (like the hood surfing/chair skidding car crash scene, "what are those", the kinetic energy suit, conspicuous lack of blood even for a jugular slit). 6.5/10. Also the score was really misused, especially that one really sick track that would swell in really loud for a few seconds for Killmonger and fade to nothing just as quickly, which is a shame because the tracks sounded quite good in context and fit nicely. |
wwf
02.23.18 | The looney toons car crash was the only one of those that bothered me much, and 'what are those' even got a laugh out of me |
ScuroFantasma
02.24.18 | The 'what are those' thing was the lesser issue, it just felt kinda dumb and slightly embarrassing. Not a big deal. The movie did some great things though. I really liked Killmonger, and the culture shock contrast between his militant Americanism vs. the quasi-traditionalist Wakandans was a great dichotomy. Wish they [potential spoiler] didn't kill Klaue off so randomly and inconsequentially, but he was a great character while around. Also that restaraunt scene + score was glorious, by far the best part of the movie. Car chase was pretty good too, up until the aforementioned moment. |
Ignimbrite
02.24.18 | The “what are those” joke was def a bit off but I guess with Wakanda being so isolated from the outside world Shuri’s just a bit out of date with her memes |
MrSirLordGentleman
02.24.18 | Klaue should've lasted longer, agreed. He was one of the cooler characters and yeah, the restaurant scene was among the best in the movie
Also Martin Freeman was perfect as always |

ScuroFantasma
02.24.18 | "by restaurant scene do u guys mean the casino scene"
Yeah casino, whoops. The building kinda looks like the restaurant from Kill Bill and I made the leap. |
JeetJeet
02.24.18 | Probably the only Marvel flick worth watching more than once. And it has their best villain ever. |
Keyblade
02.24.18 | word. its the only movie I ever watched more than once in theaters (currently at 3 times and counting)
actually, I saw Spiderman homecoming last year twice but that's only because some friends wanted to see it and I got outvoted |
Snake.
02.24.18 | "I actually enjoy this a lot more than their last album, is there something wrong with me?"
nope, if anything i'm a little puzzled as to why people are putting it below keep you tbh |

02.24.18 | the world needs more superhero movies |

02.25.18 | @Keylade
It wasn’t mind blowing or anything but I honestly really enjoyed Homecoming
Like obviously not as good as Raimi 1 - much less Raimi 2 - but i liked it a hell of s lot more than Raimi 3 or either ASM
@Jeet
Yeah MBJ fucking killed it. |
zaruyache
02.25.18 | I'm sick of the "good guy fights a bad guy that is the same as the good guy but just evil" schtick they've used for like every first hero flick sans like spiderman, thor, and guardians(?), so I didn't find the story that compelling or interesting. Kinda felt it needed more action, too? The humor was great, though, and the interactions between characters was also really good. The characters and dialogue were great, but I didn't love it altogether. |
Astral Abortis
02.25.18 | wasn't guardians 2 just about chris pratt meeting cool 80s him in kurt russell, who turns out to be evil? |
Keyblade
02.25.18 | wasnt it his dad? |
zaruyache
02.25.18 | oh right, he's still a planet that just pretends to be a 70's coolguy tho, so that's like... halfway a "good guy's foil" badguy. |
Ignimbrite
02.25.18 | @Zaruyache
Yeah I would normally agree with the whole “antagonist as an evil mirror of the protagonist” thing being annoying and played out but I honestly feel like it worked for this one
Like this trope was super annoying for Iron Man 1/Doctor Strange/Ant-Man/The Incredible Hulk but I feel like the Killmonger antagonist was defined by the Erik Stevens character outside of the Panther suit (rather than the suit/powers defining the character). And for me, the suit/power-free character was interesting enough to transcend the whole “evil mirror” trope.
If that makes any sense at all, I’m not totally sober atm |
Ignimbrite
02.25.18 | Like, the Panther suit/powers were all but incidental to Killmonger’s arc - really, they only were a thing associated with him so that he could have a final smackdown with T’Challa on more-or-less equal ground. The meat of the villain existed outside of the “evil mirror” trope. |
Dedes
02.25.18 | Killmonger was definitely the highlight imo. He was just a rad character with a good lot of passion and he provided a stark contrast to everything else, as well ofc looking like a badass. The story was kind of played out and boring, but I think for Killmonger alone the movie is worth watching. Also, there's siege rhinos, so that's a pos. |
Ignimbrite
02.25.18 | Re:Killmonger looking like a badass...
Holy shit I’m way too white to pull off that haircut but god damn if only I could (although idk maybe if I were paid money to be ripped then maybe it’d work)
Also his outfit in the museum scene is fresh as fuck |
Keyblade
02.25.18 | that whole war scene was crazy. when my man just jumped on top of the rock and blew the horn, u knew shit was going down lmao |
Ignimbrite
02.25.18 | Tbh W’Kabi was one of the few issues I had with the movie
Nothing plot or script related, he was just a punk ass bitch for 2/3 of the movie |
JeetJeet
02.25.18 | I'm kinda mad they killed off Klaw. He was very enjoyable during his time in the film. |
Keyblade
02.25.18 | the mixtape scene had me in stitches
also agreed, w'kabi was a lil bitch for most of the movie. he also had the least believable accent of the whole cast. he sounded like what the average person sounds like when they try to do an african accent
which reminds me...s/o to the dude who played M'Bako. i'm still in shock he's not actually nigerian. superb acting. his comedic timing was also a1, the vegetarian joke had me rolling |
Ignimbrite
02.25.18 | agreed M'Baku was the fucking man
"UHHHHHHHH... Are you done? ...are you DONE?"
and @hush, hush |
Keyblade
02.25.18 | who tf calls weed dope |

02.25.18 | If they do a sequel to this I hope they come back with a villain who's just as good as Killmonger. |
Dedes
02.25.18 | Good luck getting a mass market on that.
Also most of the crowd at my local theater were young people, black panther is hardly designated towards middle aged white conservatives. |
