Voivod Perform Dimension Hatross And More

I saw my favorite band, Voivod, on Thursday the 7th of June. It was quite the show. Here is what they played.
1Voivod
Dimension Hatross

The first thing they did was play Dimension Hatross in full. It was amazing to say the least. Here are
detailed track reviews.
2Experiment
Dimension Hatross

They do not play this track live which is quite a shame because it opens with one of their greatest
riffs. While the tone was a bit off on the guitar, Chewy did a great job pulling it off. There was a
very strange fanatic next to me playing the riffs on air guitar perfectly... This went on for most of
the show.
3Tribal Convictions
Dimension Hatross

While not my favorite track on the album, it is the most popular and it showed by the masses
(including myself) replicating Snake's vocals. The climactic moment was definitely the end when
Snake chants the "who's dog/god" part. Everyone was shouting.
4Chaosmongers
Dimension Hatross

The song was fairly great but a burst of energy occurred as the tempo hastened. Definitely a high
point of the show.
5Technocratic Manipulators
Dimension Hatross

A crowd favorite. The song really got great about halfway through when the bridge was played. A
great surge of energy.
6Macrosolutions to Megaproblems
Dimension Hatross

This track is another good one. The crowd is always on edge waiting as Chewy did all the small
solos. As expected, we all chanted with Snake at the bridge.
7Brain Scan
Dimension Hatross

This track is considered by some to be the best on the album. From the start with the spacey
echoed guitar riffs through the ever evolving song, it was fantastic.
8Psychic Vacuum
Dimension Hatross

As great as this song is, I was really waiting for the finally. The last minute or so is just pure bliss.
But when they played it, it was just chaos. Anyone who didn't headbang through out the show just
went crazy here. This was another high point.
9Cosmic Drama
Dimension Hatross

I never felt this song was the best closer for such a great album, but it doesn't change the fact that
it is great. During the show, they really exadurated the last few seconds, really made it great.
10The Encores
Dimension Hatross

I would have been quite satisfied with what they just played me, but instead they surpassed my
expectations. Here are some more tracks they played.
11Jack Luminous
The Outer Limits

Before the song started, they were joking about how Blacky had quit before they made this album.
They were hinting at the fact that it was going to be a song from The Outer Limits. Knowing that the
only popular song on that album is Jack Luminous, I thought it was impossible. I thought there was
no way they could play an 17 minute song as an encore! But when the opening bass line began, O
nearly came. This was the best song of the show. Every section produced such emotion. You had to
be there...
12Target Earth
Target Earth

After that amazing song, they played the title track of their upcoming album, Target Earth. I wasn't
expecting much considering the quality of their latest albums, but this song really delivered. It was
much heavier than their recent material, and really sounded like their old Dimension days. Some of
the vocals were very well played over the riffs and sounded very psychedelic, think some vocals off
of Angel Rat. The song had a lot of Stop/Starts and syncopations,it was amazing and I am really
looking forward to the album. A downside however is that many guitar riffs were overpowered by
bass and drums, rendering my judgement of the track as a very limited one.
13Astronomy Domine
Nothingface

Given that this is their most popular song it seemed appropriate to close the show with this cover.
While I like this song almost as much as Floyd's original, it really lacked energy in a live setting
especially after being played after all the heavy songs of Dimension Hatross, the epic Jack
Luminous, and Target Earth.
