03.28.14 | Liars gonna lie |
ArsMoriendi
03.28.14 | 1.Nothing is wrong with Industrial metal
2.But 70s heavy metal and alt. metal (late 80s-early 2000s) were so good in their prime
3.Actually I have nothing else to disagree with. Alternative rock is more my thing, probably why my favorite metal is alt. metal. |
climactic
03.28.14 | U dont deserve that username |
Greyvy
03.28.14 | 5 is one of my favs |
RiffOClock
03.28.14 | okay, was talking specifically about modern metal records, probably gonna edit the title
also love the tag 'alternative metal', it is generally a nice umbrella term for every single horrible album there is |
JokineAugustus
03.28.14 | Ya metal is all about cold dark snow and death and SATAN |
AliW1993
03.28.14 | All very true, especially 1 and 2. With the exception of Behemoth's The Satanist (which itself is
hardly revolutionary), I can't remember the last metal record I truly enjoyed. You need only look at
the lineups for Download, Sonisphere etc to see the state that modern metal is in. |
ArsMoriendi
03.28.14 | @RiffOClock: You find Faith No More, Primus, Tool, and Rage Against the Machine awful?
Dude, just no... |
RiffOClock
03.28.14 | 'Ya metal is all about cold dark snow and death and SATAN"
actually this is mostly correct, although i dont expect an avid zao listener to consciously grasp that fact |
NordicMindset
03.28.14 | don't forget SoaD |
RiffOClock
03.28.14 | @RiffOClock: You find Faith No More, Primus, Tool, and Rage Against the Machine awful? "
yes
|
Insurrection
03.28.14 | "You find Faith No More, Primus, Tool, and Rage Against the Machine awful?"
i wouldnt consider any of those metal bands |
ArsMoriendi
03.28.14 | I guess he really does hate alt. metal since Faith No More is like the best summer band... |
NordicMindset
03.28.14 | listen to Opiate then |
RiffOClock
03.28.14 | "don't forget SoaD"
used to love them in the old days when my hormones were raging and my cock stayed hard during the entire climax of starless. everything's changed now though |
ArsMoriendi
03.28.14 | @Insurrection: They're considered alt. metal, which is a metal sub-genre. He just insulted alt. metal by saying "also love the tag 'alternative metal', it is generally a nice umbrella term for every single horrible album there is" :( |
JokineAugustus
03.28.14 | Immolation is a summer band, but they pale in comparison to other bands |
RiffOClock
03.28.14 | "listen to Opiate then"
i'd rather not listen to any recs unknown users give me. last time i asked for fun, mediocre bands in the vein of the bled and poison the well and got a whole bunch of unrelated shit that is actually good |
DikkoZinner
03.28.14 | Incantation |
BMDrummer
03.28.14 | Have you heard new Neurosis? Not as good as their old stuff, but still really good. Especially Given to the Rising. |
Insurrection
03.28.14 | i dont even think alt metal is a legit genre. just a huge umbrella term for anything heavy thats not completely conventional. if anything its interchangeable with nu metal which those bands definitely arent |
DikkoZinner
03.28.14 | Church of Misery - Thy Kingdom Scum |
RiffOClock
03.28.14 | yeah neurosis are one of the few bands who mostly keep my attention to this day. although i heard bit and pieces from their last record and it just sounded like an uninspired and boring retread of the stuff they did before |
DominionMM1
03.28.14 | listen again man |
BMDrummer
03.28.14 | Fair enough, but try the whole thing if you get a chance. Very similar to their old stuff, but it manages to be good. |
ArsMoriendi
03.28.14 | @Insurrection: Well I know they're not nu-metal, but I'm pretty sure people called those 4 bands "alt. metal" before nu-metal even existed. |
BMDrummer
03.28.14 | Also, Sleep and Eyehategod have new records on the way which will probably be awesome. |
evilford
03.28.14 | hey riff! |
Insurrection
03.28.14 | the fact that rage against the machine and tool are paired in the same genre should tell you something
i hate genre labels anyway tho so call it as you please |
JokineAugustus
03.28.14 | Now I'm only an avid Zao listener :( |
ArsMoriendi
03.28.14 | Well if RiffOClock finds those 4 bands awful I'm going to have to say this list is shit. Well I'm out. |
RiffOClock
03.28.14 | "he fact that rage against the machine and tool are paired in the same genre should tell you something"
if the genre is 'fucking shit' then i see no problem with that |
climactic
03.28.14 | check new thou dude, should renew your faith at least a little bit. |
RiffOClock
03.28.14 | listened twice, was left unimpressed. not really digging the 'new' sound |

03.28.14 | Agree with most of this.
I very rarely get excited about new metal releases these days. |
Graveyard
03.28.14 | I see where you're coming from. I find myself nowadays searching for more experimental forms of music as opposed to metal and its subgenres.
Every once in a while I'll come across something that I find highly enjoyable, though. A perfect example would be the Gorguts album released last year. |

03.29.14 | I basically never listen to any post 2010 metal, there isn't much good stuff tbh :x Indie and hip-hop are definitely having a much better decade. |

03.29.14 | "actually this is mostly correct, although i dont expect an avid zao listener to consciously grasp that fact"
lol and agreed mostly |
Keyblade
03.29.14 | There are definitely some gems that have come out in recent times, but overall I find myself gravitating towards the older releases too. |

ZombicidalMan
03.29.14 | agreed. still a few bands like neurosis and boris I love, but largely unimpressed with metal nowadays |
JamieTwort
03.29.14 | Yeah that Morbus Chron album is great. The only really decent metal album I've heard so far this year. |
JamieTwort
03.29.14 | Oh and the new Hail Spirit Noir album isn't bad. |
RiffOClock
03.29.14 | thats the point though jamie. ive heard way too much metal in my life to bother with something "decent" or "not bad"
havent heard morbus chron, are they better than sabaothonic cherubin |
SeaAnemone
03.29.14 | riff have you heard the new thou? probably best metal I've heard in the past few years; didn't think Thou had it in them honestly but it rules |
Relinquished
03.29.14 | riff don't dig new thou |

03.29.14 | I think last year got things in the right direction with the new releases by Children of Bodom, Darkthrone, and Carcass, among others. But this year, I've heard almost nothing so far that I enjoy in terms of metal |
RiffOClock
03.29.14 | should probably look into new thou again but i was let down on the first two listens. and thats coming from someone who thoroughly enjoyed all three previous full lengths |
BlacKapes
03.29.14 | yea man im jk but riffs comments are borderline trolling |
RiffOClock
03.29.14 | "I think last year got things in the right direction with the new releases by Children of Bodom, Darkthrone, and Carcass, among others. But this year, I've heard almost nothing so far that I enjoy in terms of metal"
yeah two of those were never good in the first place |

03.29.14 | it's more def drone-y than the other ones overall. I appreciate the breathing room in it, and lyrically it's more relatable overall too. production is at their current best. |
RiffOClock
03.29.14 | guess i prefer the more playful, melodic side of thou |
JamieTwort
03.29.14 | "thats the point though jamie. ive heard way too much metal in my life to bother with something "decent" or "not bad""
Yeah I get you. I might be being a bit harsh with my choice of words, that Morbus Chron album is really good and I do like the new Hail Spirit Noir quite a bit, it's just not as good as their debut. |
mandan
03.29.14 | No love for Mastodon? |

04.01.14 | I'm not sure if this is some sort of joke, but there's plenty of good, new Metal albums out. You enjoy Drudkh's stuff, have you not listened to Wodensthrone or Winterfylleth, or Eternium? |

Demon of the Fall
12.07.17 | I don't know, just be me I guess, it's better...
i.e. discover metal later on in life & have a whole world out there to explore. Metal released in the 80s/90s is like having new music. I very rarely listen to new stuff because I simply haven't gotten round to it, apart from Vektor & they rule. |
Demon of the Fall
12.07.17 | There are days where I wish I had some guidance at a young age, to be sat down with a pair of headphones & be told 'hey kid, listen to this album, it's called Symbolic & it'll change your life'
but this later in life thing is fun too, maybe I'd have hated it, who knows... |
osmark86
12.07.17 | dismissing modern metal is just lazy. either way, for what it's worth, I disagree that modern metal isn't pushing the genre. like it or not, but bands like KoRn, SOAD, Primus, Faith No More, Meshuggah, Neurosis, Gojira, Mastodon, Cult of Luna etc are definitely making/made metal that pushes the traditional sound. so saying that the genre hasn't progressed is just wrong imo. whether you think it's generally good or not is an entirely different question. |
