jefflebowski 11.19.11	I started out with the more accessible fusion stuff like Beck, and Kind of Blue style cool jazz, but at the moment I'm mainly jamming to 50s be-bop and pretty much everything Mingus has ever done, plus some of the more adventurous 60s stuff from Coltrane
jefflebowski 11.19.11	Dominion, Kind of Blue is a fantastic place to start, but I'd personally recommend Coltrane's Blue Train or Giant Steps, they're a bit more accessible than A Love Supreme

But yeah, the Clown jams hard, the monologue on the title track is cool as well. of the 10 or so Mingus albums I've got on CD, i tend to prefer the later stuff like Mingus x5 and Black Saint, but Pithecanthropus Erectus is probably my favorite early work. Also, 'Let the Children Hear Music' is massively underrated and not all that far behind Black Saint IMO

Athom 11.19.11	i make big jazz lists about once a year an from what i can tell, not too many people here know much of jazz beyond what they learned in high school band.

Athom 11.19.11	I only play guitar. Jazz guitar can be a fun challenge, but I think the most rewarding thing to play for me is blues stuff. Sure it's a lot simpler, but I can really get into it more than anything else.
