| Guitar Gear
I made a gear list a while ago but my setup has changed quite a bit since then. Here's the new version, share ryour own gear in the comments | 1 | | Witch Mountain Cauldron of The Wild
Hovercraft Dwarvenaut 20 - just ordered this amp, I've had it for less than a week. Done up
in sound and style like a Hiwatt, has a "feelth" switch which acts as a gain boost, double depth
bass control, vintage and modern voicing, and is really cool. It's fun to go from Gilmour
cleans to Kyuss filth with just a few knob turns | 2 | | Dinosaur Jr. I Bet On Sky
Squier J. Mascis Jazzmaster - probably the best Squier ever, I haven't changed anything on it.
Looks great, sounds great, cannot recommend this axe enough. Doesn't have real Jazzmaster
pickups (it's got P90s, which I actually like a lot) | 3 | | My Bloody Valentine Loveless
Fender Japan Jazzmaster - surf green JM with matching headstock. I put in American
hardware and Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups, this thing sings now. Shoegaze for days | 4 | | Band of Susans The Word and The Flesh
G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy - basically a Tele custom, done in a delicious clear orange finish.
G&L is far superior to American Fenders in price and sound, order from them if you know
what's up | 5 | | Queens of The Stone Age Songs For The Deaf
Vox AC15 - great practice amp, and single coils + Vox is probably the best sound on Earth | 6 | | Dethklok The Dethalbum
Krank Revolution 4x12 - Krank amps suck (hence their going bankrupt) but their cabs are
awesome and this thing pushes the air even with low wattage amps | 7 | | Nick Drake Bryter Layter
Guild GAD M20 - supposedly Nick Drake's guitar; it's the one on the cover anyways. I bought
this on a whim but it's really nice, mahogany acoustics are by far my favourite. Starting to
record acoustic jams | 8 | | At The Gates Slaughter of The Soul
Boss HM-2 - the shittier your amp is, the better this will sound. The classic death metal guitar
tone, though Gilmour and Bilinda Butcher utilized it at some point, too. | 9 | | Neurosis Through Silver In Blood
A lot of other pedals too, but who gives a shit about pedals tbh, if you can make it sound good
and it fits on your board, that's what counts. | 10 | | Asobi Seksu Citrus
What gear do you guys have right now? | |

11.22.14 | going to crank the hovercraft up tomorrow and play some sleep m/ | DrGonzo1937
11.22.14 | I have a rule of no more than two guitars. But you have some nice gear man! 4 & 3 -- nice. | BigBlob
11.22.14 | Just bought myself an ESP E-II M-I. m/ | turnip90210
11.22.14 | I only give a shit about pedals whilst giving no shits about amps and only a borderline shit about guitars. Pfft. :P
The only guitar even borderline worth noting I have is a Gibson Les Paul Studio from back when they still sounded good. Completely untouched. I love the monstrous output pickups, they allow for a more intriguing interaction with my preferred fuzzes of choice (gated, gated all the way). I only have some crappy transistor amp at home but it doesn't really matter. If playing/rehearsing anywhere, there's going to be amps. They're by far the most immobile piece of equipment. I can pack up my pedalboard somewhere as I move from place to place, a guitar is manageable too, but amps are just a no-no. At some point I'd like to own a Marshall, perpetually left in that sweet spot on the clean channel where it's about to start thinking about breaking up.
In case anybody here gives a crap about fuzz, the Black Arts Toneworks Fnord is the best rhythm tone on Earth with the Devi Ever US offering a sublime complement in the lead department. There's something otherworldly about feeding those through one of those cheap Akai Phasers in those shiny metal boxes. I hope to get an A/DA Final Phase one day though... but the Akai will probably still live on my board for the wicked interaction with fuzz and a surprisingly nice high-speed phase tone. | BigBlob
11.22.14 | My full rig is... Fender Strat American Standard, ESP EII MI, ESP MH-400, Ibanez ASX30, Tanglewood acoustic. Fender Blues deluxe amp. Fender champ amp. MXR fullbore metal pebal, Boss MT2 pedal, some cheap delay pedal | Gameofmetal
11.22.14 | "The only guitar even borderline worth noting I have is a Gibson Les Paul Studio from back when they still sounded good."
I have a Les Paul Studio too but what do you mean by "when they still sounded good"?
In addition to that I have a couple of schecters, one a six string and the other is a damien elite 7 string with floyd rose and emgs.
I've got a marshal half stack, the head is a no name I bought from a friend but it's pretty good when I run my Boss metalcore pedal through it. Other than that I have a couple of pedals including a delay and a tuner. | ZombicidalMan
11.22.14 | Pedals I'd like to grab are the EQD Hoof fuzz and the Hardwire RV-7 reverb. I've gone through a lot of pedals over the course
of a few years, and I haven't had a good fuzz yet. A vintage space echo would be awesome even though they're a pain in the
butt | ZombicidalMan
11.22.14 | and I believe what he means is the fact that since the 2000s, Gibson changed their wood suppliers, made everything chambered, and upped their prices like crazy. The best Les Pauls (outside of ridiculously priced vintage ones) are from the 80s and 90s | Gameofmetal
11.22.14 | I got mine a few years ago so I guess it falls under the "bad" category. Sounds pretty damn good to me though | ZombicidalMan
11.22.14 | yeah, you can still find good guitars from any brand. except bc rich | bloc
11.23.14 | "Hovercraft Dwarvenaut 20"
Gaaaah I hate missing gear threads! I just learned about these a couple of days ago, after seeing some Hello Kitty version for sale haha. They are super "boo-teek" eh?
My guitar has changed form completely in the past 8 months. Literally everything I owned has been changed or sold. I now run an Axe Fx 2 (trust me, I used to roll my eyes too but this thing is one of the best investments I've ever made) into an Atomic powered cab. Still have my trusty CMATmods Butah pedal which is a super clean overdrive pedal that I use still because I don't have a foot controller for it yet.
I have 3 guitars now. Literally aquired the last two just this past October. The tele is gone, as I traded it for a 2003 Epiphone Elite Les Paul Standard Plus. Such a GREAT guitar, not dull sounding or anything. Looks fantastic with its flame maple top and weighs a ton as any LP should. This is one of the first run of guitars to come out of Epi's now discontinued Elitist series. Made in Japan, top quality for sure.
Next guitar is my main, a Greco SE-500 strat copy made in 1977. Everything is stock and the pickups are the best sounding Strat pups I've ever heard. Love the thing so much.
My last guitar is a 2000 Ibanez RG 570 which I bought in April. I'm a huge metal fan but this guitar is super verstatile in almost all applications. | ZombicidalMan
11.23.14 | Hovercraft is awesome, I've been into them almost since their inception, but only now did I buy one. The extra options they add are amazing, plus this is the loudest 20 watt amp I've heard. Kind of like how AC30s with blues can shake the earth
I used to look down on AxeFx but I've seen a lot of bands live use them really successfully, and they honestly sound great. I'm kind of old fashioned in my playing anyways, so a single channel tube amp is all I need. But I know why guys like BTBAM love the AxeFx
And I have to say, Japanese guitars are A+. There are bad quality ones for sure, but the Fender Japan, Tokai, Greco, Burny, and Edwards guitars are amazing. On another note I just ordered some piping and grill cloth because the Krank's grill looks like it belongs on a goddamn BBQ, so I'm rebuilding it to look "vintage" | bloc
11.23.14 | Yeah all 3 of my guitars are made in Japan, I'm becoming quite fond of their build quality.
I used to look down on Axes too until my friend got one and I tried it out. He's mostly into metal and several metal bands already use them so I knew it wouldn't disappoint. Then I started to hear clips of it being used in blues and jazz and I was holy fuck it can do this too. I run it pretty old school as well: amp, cab, overdrive, and reverb mostly. I just love that I can get a wealth of tones any time without too much work. I'm very satisfied with it.
Haha, I TOTALLY forgot about Krank amps lol. All I remember was their green logo they'd stamp onto all of their products. | ZombicidalMan
11.23.14 | I really want to get a MIJ Jaguar. I hated tremolo systems for a long time, didn't matter if it was a Strat, a PRS, or some sort of Floyd-style beast, I just hated them. But the Jag and Jazz trems are fantastic, they stay in tune so well and you can get those weird MBV and Sonic Youth sounds instantly.
I've heard the AxeFX can do really good delay too, and it's really easy to setup like dotted eights and such. Haven't seen anyone really try that in person though. and yeah haha, Krank amps (and their logo) were so shitty. The guy I bought the cab from was selling the matching head and it was godawful. It's going to sit in his garage for a long time | YakNips
11.23.14 | i got this guitar and this amp | ZombicidalMan
11.23.14 | and still you've recorded way more than I have lmao | YakNips
11.23.14 | damn right ;] | UnnamedOcean
11.23.14 | I mostly play a Roadhouse Strat and Classic Vibe Tele. Those go through an assortment of pedals - Rat, Boss OS2, OLC Chunky Cheese, etc - and into Amplitube. I also use a lot of delay and reverb. Once I move out of my apartment I'm going to buy an AC15.
I also own a Peavey T60 and a Laguna for heavier shit. | ZombicidalMan
11.23.14 | definitely recommend the AC15. Try and grab a used one with the Alnico Blue speaker if you can - it'll cost about the same as a new one, but the speaker upgrade is totally worth it | UnnamedOcean
11.24.14 | Oh definitely. I've been eyeing one for a while, but between lack of money and living in a place where I can't play loud music....yeah. | ZombicidalMan
11.25.14 | bumping because peavey t60s are awesome and I wish I had one |
