"Footprints" | 1 | | Warning Watching From a Distance
Extremely powerful and divine, forceful in an emotional way, soul ripping, are all ways to describe the supremacy "Footprints" yields. When you feel like you've accomplished something by listening to song, you know the song is good. When you feel content in life for just a moment, where any decision, whether life or death, would be acceptable you know it's a good song. *neck* The riffs, atmosphere, vocals, and transition own. Are you f?ing kidding me, this is one the best songs ever made. Doom-like, slow riffing with perfect melody that complements the vocals and lyrics to the superlative degree.Yeah some will say listen to the whole album or I like this track from this album better. NO! This is where it's at, I listen to this album for THIS song. The song is a build and there is something very special that happens at 4:43. This is called a scale shift. The root note moved from one to another. I haven't taken the time to figure it out yet but it would be easy, just match the root note sound to the note on the instrument you're using and there you go. But it?s not just the root shift, it's the actually melody chosen that elevates the emotional experience, coupled with certain lyrics that drive the feelings in you. Shit I'm not gonna lie, I even skip to 4:43 now and then just to hear my favorite part, but really the whole track makes it. Damn those vox! Play it loud! | 2 | | Warning Watching From a Distance

01.06.12 | Footprints
I am not feeling the green burning flame,
As I gaze back along footprints you have made.
And I am not dreaming of more than you have shown.
You are not a foundation,
You are not a stone.
But I'm afraid of the way that I'm feeling;
Afraid of this new understanding now;
Afraid for the beauty within me,
And that which I hold within my hand.
And this is the ultimate secret,
That many before me have ever known.
So capture me while I am weakest;
I want to know,
I want to know.
Here I am wide open, surrendering to your side;
I have laid down my armour,
I have no sword at my side.
I leave behind me the ruins of the fortress I swore to defend;
I leave behind me foundations;
I'll leave you a man I'll need you to mend.
And through all the battles around me
I never believed I would fight.
Yet here I stand, a broken soldier,
Shivering, naked, in your winter light.

01.06.12 | Pretty solid song. Even though I like some of the genre, I do think that doom is kind of a "metal rejects" genre. 99% of the songs are retardedly easy to play: just pick a few depressing-sounding chords and play them in varying orders, remembering to play sloww.
Don't get me wrong - I'm sure some artists' first choice is to play doom. But I bet a lot of people play it cuz they don't have the chops to do something more complex. | ApplicationToHeaven

01.07.12 | "Pretty solid song. Even though I like some of the genre, I do think that doom is kind of a "metal rejects" genre. 99% of the songs are retardedly easy to play: just pick a few depressing-sounding chords and play them in varying orders, remembering to play sloww."
Since when does the "ease" of song execution's classify a genre of possible "metal rejects"? That's really an ignorant statement. It takes focus and skill to exercise restraint and focusing on a certain goal rather than mindless wankery. A lot of the musicians under the "doom-metal" genre can shred with the best of them. But being able to shred does not give a musician the ability to write powerful emotional music. Your obviously not musician, because then you would actually know there is a lot of tedious composition behind songs such as these.
And with any genre their are good artist and bad ones. Same with death metal, thrash, black, and tech. In fact the reason most people don't like tech metal is because there is no emotion behind a lot of the wankery. So before bashing a genre as a whole, you should really understand the point of music in general, it's about emotion, not technicality of execution. So if an emotion calls for technicality, let it be, if not, let it be.
And remember the term "metal" doesn't signify good music. M/ does. | KjSwantko
01.07.12 | no Shuyin, they good?
And nice post Seed. | seedofnothing
01.07.12 | Thanks KJ, and you should check out EA. Their a funeral doom band but have very unique elements in their music. It'll take some patience to hear their music, so I'd recommend listening to them when your in bed before going to sleep with your eyes closed or when you can focus on the music, otherwise it prolly wont work for you. I'd recommend their first two LP's "Ea Taesse" and "EA II". | Shuyin
01.07.12 | what seed sayd, they have long ass songs some clock at 24 minutes or so, and most of the stuff have no meaning, some of the songs are untitled and the lyrics are undecipherable, yet if you listen to it carefully its sweet as hell. stuff to listen with a clear mind for sure. | Shuyin
01.07.12 | ea II is my fav album, last track is the best doom song ive ever heard o/ | Hawks
01.07.12 | One of the best albums ever made. The title track is my favorite, but any of them would work. | Shuyin

01.07.12 | Lol Ov I wish I could say there isn't.
@Hawks - I definately know your love for this album man. The day wouldn't be complete without your say so on the matter. m/
And for credit purposes it was Hawks that really got me into this album, I wasn't impressed at first because I wasn't in the right state of mind, but after several encouraged listens I can't live without it. |
