pjquinones747
10.14.16 | They wouldn't be AS dominant, maybe not win the division every single year. Brady does make his players better, but Belichick does MUCH more for them than Brady ever could. Put any of the top half quarterbacks in the league under that coach and they'll win 11 games minimum. |
pjquinones747
10.14.16 | Hell, I'll bet he could make the playoffs with most of the starting quarterbacks in the league. Belichick might be the greatest head coach of all time, so don't get him and Brady mixed up. |

pjquinones747

pjquinones747
10.14.16 | You might not be understanding the point I'm making then. Cassel sucked and Belichick won 10 games with him. Cassel went to another team and then everyone realized that he sucks. Why? Belichick is amazing. So put Brady under Mike Munchak as his head coach or someone else with the same Patriots roster and I promise you they won't do NEARLY as well. Belichick is GOAT and Brady would still be good without him, but I bet the rest of the top quarterbacks in the league could have a very similar resume under Belichick. |

they're actually lower than that when you don't count touchdowns that the defense scored, which puts them in chiefs/jags territory. ypg does come in handy when you look at them in context. i mean, when you look at denver's ypg, then look at the amount of takeaways they have, it tells you how denver's offense is getting a lot of help from their defense. |

The whole brady vs belickick argument is stupid though.
The difference between brady and other qbs is that he is so clutch. I mean belichick would have success with someone else at the position, but andy dalton isn't give you a game winning drive in a playoff game or superbowl. |

10.15.16 | Clutch is such a stupid term in football. No one ever counts the stat for quarterbacks that give his team the lead in the 4th quarter only to have the defense give it up at the end. Rodgers would lead that stat over the last decade. |
AlexKzillion
10.15.16 | A hail mary is never skill in the NFL, no matter who throws it. They were all obviously great throws, but even so, the odds are still very slim that it actually connects with any of the qb's receivers. |
DominionMM1
10.15.16 | kurt Warner is another guy who never got his due. if it weren't for a couple of plays, he'd be held in the same regard as the all time greats. his dismal time in New York doesn't help either though. |

TheSpaceMan
10.15.16 | "A hail mary is never skill in the NFL, no matter who throws it"
true it has nothing to do with arc, accuracy, power and ability to stall the play on on the QB's end and definitely nothing to do with the route and observation skills of the receivers |
AlexKzillion
10.15.16 | Brett Farve-Sidney Rice combo is pretty underrated too imo |
AlexKzillion
10.15.16 | "true it has nothing to do with arc, accuracy, power and ability to stall the play on on the QB's end and definitely nothing to do with the route and observation skills of the receivers"
And it has everything to do with the defense having their head on straight that's right. Most hail marys are just the QB throwing it up just to give his team a slim chance to come down with it. 8 defenders vs 5 receivers all bunched up in one relative spot in the endzone and a receiver coming down with it is slim af. All the QB has to do is throw the ball so that it's inside the endzone and not out of bounds. It's easy to stall with only three guys rushing the QB. Most of the time the route means literally nothing since they are usually all bunched up in the endzone by the time the ball gets there. If Hail Marys actually took skill, then their wouldn't be a less then 5% chance that they would actually work, and we would see a completed one almost once a week, because you know, it is the NFL. |

They are also unquestionably a top 3 team in the NFC as of right now along with the Vikings and the Falcons. I'd say this is the best the Seahawks have been since 2013. Doesn't feel like the last couple years where they completely stumbled out of the gate and had to dig themselves out of a hole. |

In the AFC it's the Steelers and the Patriots then everybody else way below them. And again the only team I think that might have a shot at either of them is the Raiders. I'm not a huge believer in the Broncos this year at all. |
AlexKzillion
10.15.16 | "that defense is going to be historically great by the time their season is over."

they're 7th in rushing attempts and they're 15th in yards. what about those numbers says average running game when you combine them?
|
dbizzles
11.21.16 | It says it takes them more attempts but they still average more yards in rushing than half the league. So, could their rushing game be more efficient? Certainly. Do they average more yards than half the league? Yeah. |

11.21.16 | Okay, say Drew Brees goes 22/40 with 400 yards and 3 TDs. Who gives a fuck how many incomplete passes he threw when the end result is the same?
No one is ranking rushing by yds/attempt. If you look up rushing stats in the NFL, the top rushing team is the team with the most rushing yards not the team that has the highest yds/attempt because that would be stupid. Say a team hardly runs, but they break off big runs when they do- they're yds/attempt would be inflated, which is why it would be stupid to rank based on that. |

11.21.16 | Well said |

11.21.16 | "Okay, say Drew Brees goes 22/40 with 400 yards and 3 TDs. Who gives a fuck how many incomplete passes he threw when the end result is the same?"
not really a good comparison because that would mean he still averaged 10 yards per attempt, which is well above the league average. now if he went 22/40 for 280, would that be good, or even average? No, because 7.0 ypa is well below average. |
AlexKzillion
11.21.16 | All I know is 27/36 for 300+ yards and 3 touchdowns from Dak Prescott is pretty impressive, especially against the team that was supposed to finally shut him down. |

"Surprising how well he's been doing. I will say though, they wouldn't be shit without that o-line."
Same o-line as last year and they went like 4-12. They are the best o-line the Nfl has seen in a long time but I feel as if they are getting a little too much credit for the team's success. |

11.21.16 | 'don't forget Dallas' vastly improved defense, especially against the run.'
biggest deception about this team right now, far from vastly improved....still not getting enough pressure on the qb and are among the bottom of the barrel when it comes to interceptions (only indy and jax have less)....it's a bit easier when your leading by 2 touchdowns in most games and the opposition is forced to throw....and they give up 4.2 yards per carry which doesn't exactly support your earlier argument |
DominionMM1
11.21.16 | right after I typed that I actually looked at the numbers and you're right. Dallas is allowing 4.2 yards per rushing attempt just like last year. Opponents just aren't running the ball as much as they were last year. Their defense has improved in the turnover department though. They only had 11 takeaways all last year, and this year they have 10 through 10 games. Biggest difference for Dallas that I can see after looking at the numbers is simply turnover differential. |
Titan
11.21.16 | They are indeed forcing more fumbles than usual and have benefitted on a few turnover on downs. They are dominating the TOP battle as well which keeps them fresher. Basically, the offense and coaching staff are setting this defense up for success. Jason Garrett has also been managing the clock masterfully for once. |

You're kidding right? The NFC has been WAY more competitive then the AFC since Luck and Wilson entered the league. Luck never had to play the 2012/2013 49ers and the 2014/2015 Cardinals twice a year. He didn't have to deal with the 2012-2014 Packers. Or the 2015 Panthers. Or the 2013 Saints. Or the 2014 Cowboys (or this year's for that matter). The only two real contenders in the AFC since 2012 have been the Pats and the Broncos. Joe Flacco had one lucky run and didn't do shit before and hasn't done shit since. So every team is a pretender if they don't win the Super Bowl? The Patriots and Panthers were pretenders last year because they didn't win? The difference between the teams I mentioned and the teams you mentioned is that most people took the teams I mentioned seriously. Hardly anyone takes the Texans seriously, or the Bengals to a much lesser extent. |

11.22.16 | Alright regarding Joe Flacco: Dude is maybe the strangest QB to ever play the game. During the regular season he looks kind of off a lot of the time, offense always seems to be struggling (especially when he doesn't have a running game), stats aren't anything special, but he wins enough games to get the Ravens to the playoffs. Then in January he decides to all the sudden put up numbers only comparable to Joe Montana's, and he seems to be the only QB over the last 30 years that Bill Belichek hasn't figured out. Dude also has one of the best deep balls in the game right now.
But I can easily give him the same criticisms that you guys keep giving to Russell Wilson, especially when comparing Joe Flacco with Matt Ryan (who were both drafted in 2008). "It's easy to look good when you have a defense (Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs) and running game (Ray Rice) and also a top 3 head coach." Matt Ryan puts up numbers every year (just like Andrew Luck), has played with pro bowl/hall of fame receivers (Roddy White/Tony Gonzalez/Julio Jones (just like Luck has played with Reggie Wayne and TY Hilton)), has never really had a great o-line or defense (see a trend here), and has pretty much carried the Falcon's franchise to wins as well. So does that make Ryan better then Flacco? |

pjquinones747
11.23.16 | Luck makes TY better but he'd still be a WR1 or 2 on any other team in the league.
And good points on the Flacco = Wilson, Luck = Ryan comparison. Never thought to draw that comparison and it makes a ton of sense. I think the front office is failing the latter two more than the coaching ever could. Imagine if either of those two guys were in a place like Arizona or Minnesota. Rings would be a near lock if you ask me.

11.28.16 | I've come to the conclusion this is the worst the NFL has ever been. In the history of its existence. Just shit. The teams are just shit. Too many injuries, too much parity, the rules suck and officiating is god awful. Not one, I mean not one of these teams that wins the superbowl will be able to hold any of the previous super bowl winners jock straps. Lions? Dolphins? Giants? Chiefs? Redskins? Texans? Vikings? Just shit! Even the Patriots roster is just shit! I will be rooting for the cowgirls - at least they have a bunch of pro bowlers on their team. Rant over. |
AlexKzillion
11.28.16 | "Too many injuries, too much parity, the rules suck and officiating is god awful."
I kind of like the insane amount of parity this year. Would rather see half the league have a legit chance at a title instead of like 2-4 teams with a legit chance (the NBA?)
Then again I'm still in the Cowboys/Seahawks/Patriots>>>Everyone else state of mind so I guess I'm being a little ironic |
teamster
11.28.16 | Alex - that is true. Many teams have a chance this year. I am saying quantity does not equal quality. The quality of players/rosters is as low as I can remember. |
pjquinones747
11.28.16 | Tampa could steal a wildcard from Washington if they stumble at all. Though they'd probably get creamed in the first round unless they luck out in seeding. Same exact thing goes for Miami vs. Denver for that wildcard spot. Denver has the toughest record for their remaining opponents so it's looking grim. I have family in both of those cities so I follow Miami and TB but I don't think they'll be able to make it far in the playoffs this year. Things are looking bright for these guys in the coming seasons though. |
Titan
11.28.16 | i actually think the quality of the talent is as high as its ever been, roster wide.....these guys are machines..... |

11.28.16 | This parity means that the teams have all gotten much better. I mean, the Patriots are still killing it but other teams are keeping teams humble (besides Cleveland and San Fran) and new powers have risen. They'll go as far as the defense takes them, because it doesn't seem like the offense will ever get fully healthy. |

AlexKzillion
01.01.17 | The Steelers are locked into the 3rd seed so the only way they play each other is if either a) they both make it to the championship or b) the Raiders win and the Patriots lose tomorrow which would cause the Patriots to be the second seed, so with a Steelers wild card win they would play each other in the divisional round. |

the only noticeable difference between this year and last is their turnover differential due to them recovering a lot more fumbles than they did last season. in terms of total offense/defense and points for/against, they're roughly the same as last year. but I haven't watched a ton of phins games over the years so i can't say for sure.

AlexKzillion
01.10.17 | 2007: Tom Brady has the best season ever and wins MVP, Pats are heavily favored to beat the Giants and lose.
2009: Pats get blown out by a 9-7 Ravens team at home
2010: Pats go 14-2, Brady throws 36 TDs 4 Ints, wins MVP, still gets first rounded by Mark Sanchez while being heavily favored at home
2011: Pats once again lose to the 9-7 Giants after being heavily favored
2012: Pats get blown out by a 10-6 Ravens team at home
2015: In spite of being on the road, the Pats are heavily favored and lose to noodle arm Peyton Manning
And once again, the Pats are heavily favored against the Texans, who have very similar traits to pretty much all the teams that I mentioned. Heavy underdogs with average to bad quarterback play but solid to great defenses. This just feels like deja vu to me. Still a good chance I'm wrong, but I find it crazy that I seem to be the only one who has really picked up on the Pat's habit to lose to these types of teams. |

01.10.17 | See, I think their numbers are inflated because of the teams they have faced. The only upper echelon quarterback they've faced all season is Russell Wilson and he put up one of his best stat lines of the year against them (and my man RW has been messed tf up by other defenses plenty of times this year), along with giving Brady his only loss of the whole season so far.
And they faced the Steelers with Landry Jones at QB and the Steelers only managed to lose by 11. If it comes down to Pats/Steelers, I'm confident Ben, Juice, and AB can tear that defense apart. |

01.10.17 | Yeah, seriously their schedule ended up being pretty weak overall. The division sucks other than flashes from Miami and, to a lesser extent, Buffalo. |

01.10.17 | I just wanna see the Chiefs or Steelers come out of the AFC. My gosh that would be great. More so Chiefs, considering it's been longer. |
