04.06.11 | keeping it to 2-3 per band, otherwise the beatles and pink floyd would have had more on here
|

04.06.11 | Nice, man. Great to see 34 getting some love. 98 is so cool. |
CrisStyles
04.06.11 | Could not begin to describe how awesome this list is. |
mallen-
04.06.11 | i like 98 quite a bit more than their latest. pumped for that new record though |

04.06.11 | so much fucking awesome on here |

04.06.11 | Excellent! Especially your Prog and Roll stuff. |
Satellite
04.06.11 | list rules, no surprise.
need to hear a few of these tbh |

04.06.11 | list is so so so full of win (although I did lol at your #1 haha, sorry. it's not that I don't like it, I just don't think it deserves to be in the company of some of these awesome awesome albums, but I knew it would be top 10 when I clicked)
I especially like seeing Yuck's s/t, All Eternals Deck, and When The Night Comes on a top 100 of all time list. goooooood shit. |
ConsiderPhlebas
04.06.11 | I don't like All Eternals Deck much :( |
mallen-
04.06.11 | 3eb has been one of my favorite albums since i was 10 and it hasn't faded one bit. in fact, it has gotten better.
all eternals deck is one of the only albums that is keeping 2011 worthwhile for me |
Romulus
04.06.11 | so i did some intense calculating and around a fourth of these are 4.5+ for me which is kind of ridiculous. awesome list. |
Blackbelt54
04.06.11 | lotsa awesome stuff on here |
mallen-
04.06.11 | not surprised one bit that it turned out that way rom |

04.06.11 | I keep giving it a go but it's not sticking for some reason. Hoping it does eventually. |
climactic
04.06.11 | lots of great albums |
mallen-
04.06.11 | up until all eternals deck I actually preferred his stripped-down acoustic records like all hail west texas and tallahassee. he's one of those artists that actually benefits from less production |

04.06.11 | "I don't like All Eternals Deck much :("
what what WHAT??? I think it's their best album yet. Well, I've heard The Coroner's Gambit, We Shall All Be Healed and The Sunset Tree, but I think it's better than all of those. The first track just kills it man, so effing good. |
mallen-
04.06.11 | never quite free is my favorite |
Aids
04.06.11 | My obsession with the band is still in it's infant phase; I only started liking them a couple months ago (We Shall All Be Healed broke the ice for me). So it's entirely possible that I'm overrating the album, but I don't know, it feels much much stronger than any of their previous albums that I've heard. I've been listening to Damn These Vampires non-stop (seriously, I have over 200 plays on it already) since I heard it. At first I thought the album kind of petered off after that, but I was wrong, the rest of the album rules too. |
ConsiderPhlebas
04.06.11 | Dude, better than The Sunset Tree... I think we have to be mortal enemies now. But yeah, I'm not sure what it is - it's just not catching my attention like his other stuff. I doubt they could make a bad album, but it just wasn't what I hoped I guess. |
Jethro42
04.06.11 | Here's another interesting brand new release you might enjoy;

04.06.11 | I'm gonna get All Hail West Texas next. I love how many albums they have, I'm so far from finishing listening to their whol discog. and I love it. I mean, I've given all 4 of their albums that I've heard 4.5s haha. |
mallen-
04.06.11 | sweet thanks jethro. haven't heard much prog from this year |

04.06.11 | "Dude, better than The Sunset Tree... I think we have to be mortal enemies now"
sorry haha, like I said, I'm just getting around to listening to them now so pretty much every album of theirs is like "OH MY GOD THIS IS SO FUCKING GOOD 4.5" so it will be a while probably until I can say which albums are better/worse. but besides All Eternals Deck, The Sunset Tree is probs my favourite; they're all soooo good though. |
mallen-
04.06.11 | i'm surprised how much everyone likes the sunset tree tbh. I like it quite a bit, but not as much as some of the others i've heard. I guess I have to listen again. |
Aids
04.06.11 | yah it's the fan-favourite I'd say. I can definitely see why, I feel like it's their most cohesive album (again, I've only heard 4 of their albums) but it's all gold so... |
Yotimi
04.06.11 | Really good list here |
ConsiderPhlebas
04.06.11 | Apart from the first two releases everything they've done is worth a listen. Most of it is absolute gold. I've heard people criticse The Life of the World to Come because it's a 'christian' album, but apart from the song titles the religious aspect isn't apparent at all to me. Some really beautiful songs on that album. AHWT is fantastic. |
Aids
04.06.11 | I was buying CDs a couple of days ago and wanted to buy a Mountain Goats one (summer's coming up, need summery tunes to bump in the car and my car's CD player can not handle burned CDs) and my choice came down to The Coroner's Gambit or All Hail West Texas. The Coroner's Gambit was $1 less so I bought that haha. I'll probably be back next week to buy the AHWT CD that I passed on.
Also, the reason I went into the record store was to buy All Eternals Deck on CD (again, for the car) but they had it on vinyl and I couldn't resist haha. Mission failed. |

04.06.11 | The albums on this list scream for Hold Steady to be included somewhere. |
AggravatedYeti
04.06.11 | ^ the man has a good point. |
mallen-
04.06.11 | these are mostly 5s and 4.5s with a few of my favorite 4s thrown in (like only 2 or 3 of them). I like the Hold Steady, but I don't like any of the albums enough to have on this list. That might change over time though. |
AggravatedYeti
04.07.11 | so many amazing albums here. I could name drop all of them, but that would be about 2/3 of the list. |
