Lady Gaga
I saw The Monster Ball on HBO and really liked it, to my
amazement. Finally downloaded The Fame Monster. Yeah, I'm
going to say straight out that it's phenomenal and I wish I heard
it when it came it almost 2 years ago. It's odd hearing this with
The Fame which is an uninspired club-pop album that I'm really
happy Gaga realized was a separate work from The Fame
Monster. List is The Fame Monster ranked. |
1 | Lady Gaga Alejandro
This is pop music done right; I don't care what people say about the
musical validity of Gaga's music but in terms of insane catchiness and
superb vocal arrangement, this song is top-tier pop music. |
2 | Bad Romance
Approaching the 400 million mark on YouTube, this song was one of the few
by Gaga I heard just as a side effect of being alive. Beyond the fact that it's
proved to be a ridiculously popular single, it's great in its own right as a
track with impeccable production and an unforgettable chorus. |
3 | Dance in the Dark
This blew me away on the aforementioned HBO special; it's got a massive
chorus and insanely catchy vocals during the verses. The lyrics also actually
mean something, which is always a plus. |
4 | Speechless
Whoever said this was the low point on TFM because of its ballad status
was completely wrong. This song is a great show of skill vocally by Gaga,
showing her voice is totally amazing and requires no electronic
manipulation to work. The comparisons to Queen this song receives goes to
show how good it is. |
5 | Monster
A bit repetitive, but still boasts top-notch production. The verses are
actually even better than the verses, quite atypical of a pop song.
Everybody knows this song is a motherfuckin Monster. |
6 | So Happy I Could Die
The strange erotica of this song is hard to understand, and the overly-
happy chorus is surprising with the dark material of the rest of the record,
but Gaga's lyric-less vocalizations and the epic music more than make up for
it. |
7 | Telephone
The other mega-hit I'd already heard. Not a bad song, but can't stand up to
the other gems here. Beyonce's verse is a nice touch, and the main vocal
hook is really catchy. |
8 | Teeth
The only song on TFM I didn't really love; my first experience with it was
from the special which saw the song basically turn into a showcase of
Gaga's backing band, so that was pretty cool. But this song by itself runs a
bit on the boring side. The production is a nice change from the rest of the
album, though. |
