Planetes (if you liked FMA, this is a must, big on character development but less action etc)
Durarara! anime gangster style, good production
Eden: It's a Wonderful World! - manga. Dystopia, violence, character development, decent story line for the most part.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time - anime film, brought to you by the same studio which did Death Note, Trigun and other famous stuff. You can't hate this film. There are no haters for this.
