TheIllmatics
02.10.11 | This was pretty hard to decide since there are so many east coast rappers i love. Some I left out are Killah Priest,
Canibus, Big Pun, KRS, Talib Kweli and Masta Ace. |
BigHans
02.10.11 | Pretty tough to rank them, but Biggie Smalls is king. |
Counterfeit
02.10.11 | List title should be changed to top 10 east coast rap artists/groups |
BigHans
02.10.11 | Big Pun would be in my top 10 East Coast rappers. Motherfucker could flow. |
TheIllmatics
02.10.11 | Yeah Big Pun was amazing but i couldn't find place for him among all the east coast legends
|
Counterfeit
02.10.11 | Dude Wu-Tang is 9 members plus all the affiliates so technically this list is like 19 long not including Gang Starr and PE so yeah come on this is like a top 22 list. |
BigHans
02.10.11 | Feit if you dont have Big Pun - Capital Punishment you need to get it right now. |
TheIllmatics
02.10.11 | i have heard capital punishment and it's sick. and yeah, wu-tang is 9 member so i kind of fucked up (i also wasn't
talking about their affiliates like killah priest) but PE is only one rapper (flavor flav only has like 1 track where he
actually spits a verse per album) and gang starr is also only one rapper. primo doesnt rap |
GnarlyShillelagh
02.10.11 | Wu-Tang itself (with Cap and Red now) is 10 artists right there nigga |
Trundle
02.10.11 | Gang Starr is two people |
henryjohnson
02.10.11 | Yes!!RAP! |
Trundle
02.10.11 | check out Lord Finesse man, check out my review for The Awakening and see if it's what you'd like, he "discovered" Big L. |
Trundle
02.10.11 | "i did it for hip-hop" |
BaconStarship
02.10.11 | blah! who puts nas in front of biggie! Awesome list nonetheless though, props to 8 |
GnarlyShillelagh
02.10.11 | He meant Guru |
TheIllmatics
02.10.11 | replaced wu-tang with rae. wu is 9 people on 1 spot lol |
TheIllmatics
02.11.11 | yeah but i don't like guru's solo albums so i just put gang starr |
BigPoppaDiesel
02.15.11 | No Ghostface? + Big L has to be higher. just sayin. bad ass list though it would be tough to match. |
OutOfMyself
02.15.11 | IM12ANDWHEREIS2PAC |
TheIllmatics
02.17.11 | i know pac was born in the east but he constantly repped the west, so i didn't put him here. and i think ghostface is way too overrated. to be honest, he's the only reason i can't give cuban linx a 5. |
wyankeif1337
02.17.11 | im sorry, what is "rap?" is it some new metal genre or something? |
TheIllmatics
02.19.11 | um? very funny..? |
MUNGOLOID
02.19.11 | wyankeif is so witty. but on the real, biggie should be 1 and big pun should replace 9. |
TheIllmatics
02.20.11 | gasp. mos def hate? =( i liked capital punishment but it wasn't as good as black star+black on both sides+the ecstatic. also illmatic>ready to die. and i've been trying to avoid saying this but.... i don't like pac at all. |
Hawks
02.20.11 | You don't like Pac? God I think I'm gonna cry. I agree with you about Illmatic being better than Ready to Die, but not by much. |
Hawks
02.20.11 | As far as flow goes, yeah Biggie is better. I'd say Big L is the best though, if we're going by flow and lyrics. |
Hawks
02.20.11 | Not really. |
Chrisjon89
02.20.11 | 9 is my favourite cos Black On Both Sides is so diverse. Not perfect but great lyrics and delivery. Who else would rap about the importance of water as a natural resource? The Ecstatic and Black Star are great too.
I only own It Was Written by 1 but what I've heard off Illmatic is amazing. I'm familiar with everyone else and like most of them but don't own anything of theirs.
Also as far as the East Coast goes I like ATCQ and De La Soul. Maybe not as strong lyrically but it's a good vibe and it's fun. Maybe that's why everyone is going crazy for Odd Future. |

03.04.11 | Big L is to low. But good list, agree with 1. |
