There is so much great music in the world....and it makes me sad that I will
probably never get to listen to it all. This list contains some recent digs that

What Wonder Is This Universe!
I just heard this band for the first time yesterday and ever since that moment I
cannot get them out of my hand. I purchased their 12" along with a digital copy this
morning and have given it 4 listen throughs already. Beautiful vocal melodies,
intriguing chord progressions, various classical instruments, and thumping drum
lines all roll into one to create a truly awesome record. By the end of the year, this

Piramida
While this album is musically great, the back story behind the recording process is
where it really comes alive. The accompanying documentary explains the albums
title and how it was arranged. Long story short, most of this album is sampled
noises from an abandoned mining town in Russia (known as Piramida) combined
with refined bass lines and a minimalist approach to composure. Emotional vocals
combined with the wooden rhythm of someone running on dock or ghostly noises of
someone smacking on a massive chemical container provides listeners with a truly

Amateurs and Professionals
Being a fan of 90's emo bands such as American Football, Mineral, and Pedro The
Lion, I am always on the hunt to find similar groups. My friend turned me on to
Penfold at the beginning of the year and I have been captivated since then. The
twinkly guitar lines, powerful choruses, and straightforward, heartfelt vocals of
Amateurs and Professionals really captures the essence of the mid western Emo
sound of the 90's on this album. Fans of Texas Is The Reason, Mineral, and The
Promise Ring will enjoy this record thoroughly. | | 4 |  | Chapterhouse
Whirlpool
Those who admire the shoegaze sound will appreciate this dig. Shoegaze is a new
genre to me that I began to dabble with last year. Of course, the classics like My
Bloody Valentine and Slowdive provide the essence of what is shoegaze. While I
enjoy that immensely, I was searching to see what else this genre could do.
Chapterhouse provided that gem for me. The shoegazy singing combined with up
tempo, brit poppish drums and digging guitar lines provide a new side to the
shoegaze I was originally exposed to. | | 5 |  | Trespassers William
Different Stars
Continuing with the shoegazy digs, I ran into Trespassers William while searching
for artists similar to Slowdive. I believe this album may be the ultimate night
driving playlist. The ambient slide guitar, acoustic strumming, organ playing, and
gentle drumming provide a background wash like that of Slowdive or Mojave 3.
This wash is the perfect base for the beautiful and emotional vocals to float on top
