Deftones Ranked
because I named my turkey "Chino", here..we..go.. |
| 1 | | Deftones Adrenaline
10. This is a bad spot for a great album. Do I want it rerecorded sometimes? Sure. Should it be? Shut up. Unreal debut that laid foundation that ended up getting mostly paved over. |
| 2 | | Deftones Saturday Night Wrist
9. I think I can safely say this was my most anticipated Deftones release. Based on fandom and position in life at-the-time, I was a regular visitor to the turbulent but accessible "making of" media offered from them at the time. Like, all the time. When this dropped on Halloween, I wanted it to be my personality. It has *sigh* faded a bit into a weird, disjointed mess for me over the years. A mess I still love, mind you. |
| 3 | | Deftones Gore
8. See "SNW" comments. An album that defined me for a while before I realized how not all odds and ends meet. A rare raw Chino, like throughout. HIs voice sounds great without effects but I do miss them a bit. It's a punchy, catchy 80s wave whatever idk album a lot of the time (matching amazing artwork), but its staying power does wane. Still real nice. |
| 4 | | Deftones Diamond Eyes
7. Gonna get skewered for this - I friggin love this album. The only problem comes when I see how much everyone else adores this thing. It's so tight and good and heavy and catchy and accessible and just like the real right Deftones recipe. Sometimes, that's my problem with it. |
| 5 | | Deftones Around the Fur
6. Another couple bottles just landed near my feet. I'll provide similar disclaimers for the remainder of the ride: I love all 10 of these albums. She's a classic, outstanding album. This is where she sits for now. |
| 6 | | Deftones Deftones
5. Always felt like almost the self-prescribed 'black sheep' of the early litter. It's weirdly gained that identity as time has charged on, much more than its original intentions. This album remains the coldest of their albums - just a wintry, hollow affair that can be offputting but its really melodic counterbalance makes for an under/over idk anymore appreciated great album. |
| 7 | | Deftones Koi No Yokan
4. KNY and me have had an odd and placid relationship. Without spilling too many steamy details, I'm delighted to report my early assessments a decade ago were wrong. It's a fabulous space-post-rock-whatever odyssey that really proves its worth over time. |
| 8 | | Deftones private music
3. This feels cheap, and I thank you for making it this far. I can't lie - this album is outstanding. It moves and breathes in a way that the albums listed below this just don't consistently achieve. There's an energy and buoyancy to their last two albums that replicate some unnecessary salad day throwback revival without trying to do that literally at all. |
| 9 | | Deftones Ohms
2. I don't know, I guess this is still my second favorite Deftones album? It feels bitch after 20+ years of fandom and worship, but man, these songs have some sort of extra thump and sugar back that I didn't even realize I was missing. |
| 10 | | Deftones White Pony
1. Blah blah I'm a sellout bitch. Love this album for my whole life. You do too. |
