Hawks
11.09.11 | He's a fucking idiot then. Let's be honest here, Paterno should've been out years ago. |
JWT155
11.09.11 | 1) He didn't physically abuse anyone.
2) A GRAD student told him that his fellow coach/friend/colleague, who at the time was the chairman of an charity to help KIDS, was abusing kids. It would be hard to believe a Grad students story.
3) Despite #2, he reported it, like he was required to higher authorities, and they met numerous times with Curley and the other gentlemen to discus the matter.
If anyone dropped the ball, it was our athletic director and chief of campus security. That being said Paterno could have done more, but if he did go to the cops it would be hearsay and his testimony would be worthless.
In all, I do think it's time for Joe to go, but this whole incident is not his fault, it's a despicable man who did heinous acts. That being said, I'm proud of our University, the things we do BESIDES football and that this school is bigger than on sport and one coach. |
JWT155
11.09.11 | The Grad student is Mike McQuery, former starting QB and the red-head coach you see on the sidelines during every game. Great guy. |
Hawks
11.09.11 | It's not completely his fault, but still, if at least somebody knew about it and nobody did shit, then that's absolutely ridiculous and the team should be punished and Paterno should still be fired for even knowing about it. I mean, this isn't like the Ohio State situation where they just sold things for money, these are very serious offenses. Christ they had a fucking pedophile for a coach. |
Satellite
11.09.11 | i didn't say joepa abused anyone. nobody's saying that. it's just extremely hard to believe that there wasn't more he could have done, especially with 20 (and counting) victims coming forward now and almost all of this having taken place at state college.
his bosses don't count as "higher authorities." unless he was 100% convinced that the GA (who himself should have gone to the police) was lying (and who would lie about that?), then he absolutely should have taken the matter to the police. |

JWT155
11.09.11 | Agreed. I still support the man, he's done more to help kids and build young men then anyone I can think of. That being said, I do feel it's time for his legacy to end, BUT he deserves one last game. On top of this my biggest outrage for this incident, other than for the victims, is the un-necessary and exagerrated insults to my school. Penn State has around 97,000 students state wide, the largest alumni association in the world, thousands of great employees and professors and we have the largest student run philantropy in the world that has raised over 76 MILLION dollars for KIDS with cancer. To have this great institution made up of so many great individuals be tarnished by a few is a travesty. |
Hawks
11.09.11 | I agree with that completely. The university itself shouldn't be punished because of this. The team and coaches are the ones who should be punished in some kind of way, whether that be suspensions, fines, or being fired, and they have no baring on the fact that Penn State is still a great school and isn't based on just the football team. |
Satellite
11.09.11 | penn state as a university/community doesn't deserve the shit they're taking right now. the blame is solely on a handful of men of power who opted to look the other way and focus on the bottom line rather than human decency. really this could have happened anywhere. |

11.09.11 | They should never have to cancel their season because of this. All they wanna do is play football and they should get to do that. On November 4, 2011 Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly indicted Sandusky on 40 counts of sex crimes against young boys, following a three-year investigation into allegations that he had inappropriate contact with a 15-year-old boy over the course of four years, beginning when the boy was ten years old. The boy's parents reported the incident to police in 2009.[10] A grand jury identified eight boys singled out for sexual advances or sexual assaults by Sandusky from 1994 through 2009. 11.10.11 | The problem falls in the fact that all of these administrators, coaches, and people in authority didn't report this incident to the local authorities, thus violating the law. If somebody tells you that he saw a man raping a young boy, you're legally obliged to report that man if there's enough reason to suspect it's true. Sandusky is a sick fuck. He ran an organization to help underprivileged children build confidence and self esteem and then took the kids and abused them. He deserves to have the book thrown at him. 11.10.11 | My friend that goes to PSU posted this:
Dear Non-Penn Staters:
"Final points. I have seen a lot of people who are not part of the Penn State community make comments about the Penn State scandal. They think it is ridiculous that students and alumni are pissed off. Let me try to explain. If you clearly read the Grand Jury report, you would know a Penn State GA (Mike McQueary...) witnessed Jerry Sandusky sexually assulting victim 2. Instead of calling the police, he reported it to his supervisor Joe Paterno the next day. Joe Paterno then set up a meeting with his supervisor, Tim Curley. The meeting took place on a Sunday in Joe Paterno's home. Paterno also reported what He Knew to the campus police. Tim Curley and Gary Shultz, then met with Mike McQueary to discuss what he saw. Curley and Shultz never reported the incident further. Their reports to the grand jury were not credible. Now where in the report does it say anything about Joe Paterno knowing about the crimes and not doing anything. So why are we mad? We're mad because the media found a scape goat in Joe Paterno. We're mad because they blamed him instead of Mike McQueary, Tim Curley, Gary Shultz, and Jerry Sandusky. Were mad because when you search "penn State scandal", Joe Paterno's picture comes up. We're mad because after 61 years as a Penn State employ, the Board of Trustees fired him over the phone. We're mad because they admit that all the facts are not present yet. We're mad because the school let Tim Curley take a leave, Gary Shultz resign, and Mike McQueary keep his job. This is issue is bigger than football; Joe Paterno is bigger than football. He is man that has raised millions of dollars for my school. He is a symbol of the community.I have literally felt awful during all of this. I feel awful for the kids that had to go through something that nobody should endure. I pray for them, and all children that are treated poorly.I feel awful about how people are portraying Penn State, and The Second Mile. I pray for the victims, and hope they find peace. I pray that nothing like this happens again." |

Paterno reported it to his supervisor and washed his hands of it, he could've gone to higher authorities and fired the dude, but he clearly didn't care that much.
Also, it's hilarious that kids currently attending Penn State think they speak for the alumni, because everyone I know who's an alumni from PSU thinks this whole situation is disgusting and is SLAMMING the younger kids for their "riots" where they're more concerned that a football coach got fired, than the fact that he neglected to get a pedophile he knew about brought to justice. |

11.10.11 | Actually almost everyone in the riot was sober mappy. That being said, I wasn't in the riot and the people who were made our school look that much worse. |

11.11.11 | The official reason is because Penn State is a public institution, no terminations or decisions by the
board of trustees can be made without a 24 hour prior notice of them convening. When they met on
Wednesday, they we're only discussing the positions of Head coach (Paterno) and Spanier (President)
without addressing other positions. I'm sure the next time they convene his position will be on the
agenda and he'll be gone along with possibly a few other people. |

11.11.11 | it's posts like that which are the reason why i look to your great insight and wisdom every time I see

11.11.11 | Agreed, apparently there's been a "pimped" kids rumor. Things may be about to get a lot worse. |
FrankRedHot
11.11.11 | That's who brought the "pimping" rumor up! I don't know whether or not Madden is telling the truth or if he's just making shit up, but either way it's going to completely ruin the program at PSU. |

Yeah, what I heard was alledgedly a lot of the kids who were raped were the children of the highest donors to the university. |
