I always knew jazz fusion had potential. Snarky Puppy reached that potential

The Lesser Hommeverse, ranked

No I will not listen to EODM. No I will not listen to Desert Sessions. Maybe one day I will listen to Post Pop Depression

Welcome to Sky Valley

Would anything else be here?
2Queens of the Stone Age
...Like Clockwork

Simultaneously a career defining statement and a triumphant reinvention. The moment Homme finally submitted to the fact that deep down, he was always writing pop songs.
3Kyuss
Blues for the Red Sun

Some of the interludes get a bit tiring some days, but this is Riff City — population: Josh
4Queens of the Stone Age
Songs for the Deaf

A slight amount of filler starts creeping in, but the concept and sheer charisma manage to hold it together

Queens of the Stone Age

Worship the riff. The riff is eternal.
6Queens of the Stone Age
Era Vulgaris

Aged surprisingly well. I enjoy the janky, electrifying, methed-up New Wave feel. It really does feel like a dying lightbulb.
7Queens of the Stone Age
Rated R

I know that for Oliveri/Lanegan purists, this is peak Qotsa, but to me it feels more transitional than anything. Some great drumming here though.

...And the Circus Leaves Town

Some good riffs, but as much as I love Hernandez’ drumming, the band did suffer in the songwriting and chemistry department from losing Bjork. John also started to become grating here. Less than the sum of its parts, even where the parts are good.
9Queens of the Stone Age
Lullabies to Paralyze

There’s a good album buried in here, and I love the goth rock influences — it’s just overlong, and can’t match the pace of better albums without trimming the fat.
10Them Crooked Vultures
Them Crooked Vultures

JPJ tears it up on this fun romp, but both Homme and Grohl feel like they’re in a bit of a creative rut here, and it shows.

Villains

Didn’t vibe this on release, but I’ve spent the last seven years getting a thorough education in funk and disco, and I think I get the vibe a bit more now. Don’t really come back to it often though.

Wretch

Tracks like Black Widow and Love Has Passed Me By rip, but the production kills it for me. Surprising amount of Soundgarden worship!
13Queens of the Stone Age
In Times New Roman...

I can literally only remember the riff to Sicily. Paper Machete just turns into Little Sister whenever I try to recall how it goes. Not even bad, just kinda forgettable.
