| Tradie Prog Classics
First there was pub rock — then pub rock had kids who grew up, hit the tools, and became Tradie Prog. Tradie Prog is a pejorative term for a certain subset of Australian heavy rock from the mid 00s to early 10s — music that was often atmospheric and groove based and took superficial influence from bands like Tool, dredg, A Perfect Circle, and Faith No More.
In Australian nomenclature, a Tradie is a term used to refer to a professional tradesman, like electricians (sparkles), carpenters (chippies), etc. This music was christened Tradie Prog in part due to its audience (often young white males with physically demanding jobs) and in part because, just like your local electrician after a few beers at the pub, it was always trying to come off as more thoughtful and intelligent than it really was. Voyager are maybe arguable I guess, but I always took them to be more power metal adjacent than Tradie Prog (little to no alt rock influence)
Northlane came out the Btown Masonic scene around the same time as TAIM; they might be similar in their big brain mindset to some Tradie Prog acts, but they’re probably more Tradiecore (again, little alt rock influence) | Bloma

Tradiecore: metalcore/djent with tradie prog characteristics. Usually springs up out of the hardcore and metalcore scenes.
I think it’s a contextual thing more than anything, but there’s also definite crossover. | cb123
