I always knew jazz fusion had potential. Snarky Puppy reached that potential

Tradie Prog Classics

First there was pub rock — then pub rock had kids who grew up, hit the tools, and became Tradie Prog. Tradie Prog is a pejorative term for a certain subset of Australian heavy rock from the mid 00s to early 10s — music that was often atmospheric and groove based and took superficial influence from bands like Tool, dredg, A Perfect Circle, and Faith No More. In Australian nomenclature, a Tradie is a term used to refer to a professional tradesman, like electricians (sparkles), carpenters (chippies), etc. This music was christened Tradie Prog in part due to its audience (often young white males with physically demanding jobs) and in part because, just like your local electrician after a few beers at the pub, it was always trying to come off as more thoughtful and intelligent than it really was. Now that we’re slightly removed from its zenith, here are the highlights of the Tradie Prog phenomenon; at least as I see them.
1Karnivool
Themata

The archetypal tradie prog band
2The Butterfly Effect
Begins Here

Also influential
3Cog
The New Normal

Undersung in retrospect
4Dead Letter Circus
This Is The Warning

Spearheading the second generation of tradie prog, a somewhat lighter approach
5Twelve foot ninja
Silent Machine

One of the heavier tradie prog bands
6Quiet Child
Thumper

Underrated in the grand scheme of tradie prog I reckon. Much more legitimately progressive mindset than most of the bands here.
7Caligula's Horse
Moments from Ephemeral City

Not really my thing but enough people seem to like them
8Closure in moscow
The Penance and the Patience
