Discog Runs - Rec Thread

Did a few discog runs in 2023 and heartily enjoyed them. Trying to select a few artists to do discog runs for in 2024 and thought I’d come to Sputnik for recs. List is discogs I’ve runned.
1Gillian Welch
Soul Journey

For a discog run to be enjoyable, the first step is choosing the right artist.
2The Afghan Whigs
Up In It

Choosing an artist that has at least somewhat consistently made good music is the first step. A few clunkers are sometimes good to give a sense of perspective. Majority clunkers are not. Sorry, Venetian Snares!
3Sade
Lovers Rock

Between 5 and 10 albums is the sweet spot. Any less than 5 and it gets harder to get invested in the artist’s creative evolution, any more than 10 and there’s potential to get overwhelming / boring — sorry, Prince, but I just don’t have the wherewithal to do anything but an abridged run.
4Dire Straits
Alchemy: Dire Straits Live

Artists who display some sense of progression/experimentation/creative progress are preferred, because you can really engage with and analyse their creative decisions. AC/DC are out, because I’m not listening to the same song for 16 albums.
5Magnolia Electric Co
Trials and Errors

Most releases should be under one or two aliases, for ease of tracking. Sorry, but I’m not hunting down all 5000 Richard D. James aliases.
6Iron maiden
Iron Maiden

Highly influential bands are prime pickings for a discog run, especially if they’ve started or influenced multiple subgenres or styles of music.
7Primus
Green Naugahyde

But most of all - the most important requirement is that a discog run should be FUN
