06.25.13 | Howdy, I'm Karl, and I'm an undergrad science student at the University of Sydney, Australia. I work filling shelves at a department store overnight. I've got a stats exam tomorrow I'm procrastinating for, and I'm seeing Mono on Thursday. List is recent digs. |

06.25.13 | Spread the love man. People call me Yak, I'm an adolescent that spends too much time alone, and I wish I was seeing Mono on Thursday. I also like long walks on the beach. Also, nice digs. |
Butkuiss
06.25.13 | Hi XingKing!
Hi Yaks! Yeah, I won free tickets to see them yesterday, which is awesome. That's the sixth gig this year I've gotten free tickets to.
I love long walks on the beach |

06.25.13 | When I looked at your ratings and saw you had Jane Doe, LYSF, Wish You Were Here, and ( ) 5d... I knew you were a boss. |
Butkuiss
06.25.13 | Ha, thanks man, glad you think so. Yeah, they're all pretty obvious 5s. I'm not totally sure I'd say I prefer them to albums like Mare Decendrii, Spiritech or Angel Dust but they're all awesome.
Converge are one of the best live bands I've seen, and Godspeed aren't bad either. I'm still kicking myself that I missed Sigur Ros last year though. |

Sydney is pretty good but expensive as fuck. I'm just glad the Annandale Hotel was saved so I have a reason to keep busting money on shitty live bands.
Where you from? |

06.25.13 | Basildon, Essex, England. To put it into context you have the botanical gardens and Bondi I have a multi storey car park and erm.....that's it.
Was In Sydney/Oz ten years ago. I will go back there someday a truly great country I hope it hasn't changed much?

06.25.13 | Hi Manosg!
Oh, yeah. I've known a few people who moved to the UK and moved back rather quickly. For some reason a lot of people around here have built up an idealised version of London from watching too much Dr Who and now think it's a city of mysterious intellectual gentlemen and romance.
Meh.
But yeah, I love the Botanical Gardens man. You should get back here soon. Not much has changed, really. Population is a bit bigger but public transport is still shite. Much of a muchness. |
Butkuiss
06.25.13 | Hi Lowder91bird! Thanks for the sentiments dude!
Howdy Satellite! You might be an alcoholic but you're still not as bad as Tyler Munro.
Howdy Infiction! As long as it's not Abbott in the president seat I think we'll be fine. |

06.25.13 | Hey peeps!
I'm Sebastien, I'm from New Zealand and I love music, movies and fantasy. I'm a film student currently making a documentary on ghosts, though I'm an atheist I find the topic fascinating. I've seen a few bands live, most notably Faith No More, Lightning Bolt, The White Stripes and Radiohead. I'm going to Neutral Milk Hotel later this year. |
Butkuiss
06.25.13 | @Lowder Yup. I'm not too fussed on the general state of Australian politics at the moment but I feel like Abbott is the lesser of two evils. Which is a horrible way to look at politics.
I think the problem with Australian politics in general these days is that we as a country have it so good that campaigners try and create issues where there are none. Neither of the major political parties have any real issue to divide over so everything just ends up homogenous and the general populace apathetic. |
Butkuiss
06.25.13 | Howdy Jacquibim!
Heyyo Polythene! I didn't know they let kiwis on sputnik these days. Give us a shout when you finish your doco!
@zak: Yup, 3 Wise Monkeys and PJ Gallagher's (I'm assuming that's the Irish pub you're referring to) are still alive and kicking. I'm not much for drinking these days, but if you ever come back the Annandale Hotel on Parramatta Road and Manning Bar at the University of Sydney are both top notch joints, and host the best gigs in town between them too.
And ha, yeah, I've heard as much from the people I know who went there. And yet the myth of the utopian London still persists. Kind of reminds me of Will Self's 'The Book of Dave.'
|
Lowder91bird
06.25.13 | Thats politics every where you go, Butkuiss. Its sad. Thats why I've become an Anarcho-Syndicalist. But enough with that lets get back to the loving each other stuff. |
Butkuiss
06.25.13 | Yeah, pretty much. I've become kind of lax politically these days. I don't really have a clear cut ideology any more, which is kind of lazy I guess, but fuck it. I'll figure something out down the road.
I need to stop editing comments I'm sick of my linebreaks disappearing damnit. |
Lowder91bird
06.25.13 | Hey, I edit mine all the time. I'll submit it then notice some thing wrong. |

06.25.13 | Hey Butkiss, doing a PhD in Physics at uni of Wollongong, spent many a night at the Annandale Gigs, good to see they kept the place up and running! |

06.25.13 | Sup Karl, I'm Lloyd, currently doing year 12 in Melbourne.
I love my music (obviously), mainly metal and rock, but I've been known to enjoy other genres on occasion. I play drums, and have been for about 5 years now.
I also like playing video games and watching TV shows and movies, but basically only stuff from western culture. |
Butkuiss
06.25.13 | Hey Rogue! That's pretty awesome.
If you see oltna let me know. He's probably hiding.
Hey cb123! Nice! Physics is awesome, though thermal physics/chemistry is a bit of a bore sometimes for me. What's your PhD on? Right now I'm probably looking at a chemistry/pharmacology major, but that will probably change.
Is Yours & Owls still up and running? They've hosted some killer gigs too over the years.
Hey Lloyd! It's raining in Sydney now, so it actually kind of feels like Melbourne.
It's a pity you live down there. Finding good drummers up here is always a pain. I've been playing bass for just over 5 years now, and I've been doing harsh vocals in hardcore/metal bands for just as long.
If any of y'all are ever in Sydney feel free to give us a shout! |
tempest--
06.25.13 | Hey, it's actually been pretty nice the past few days down here!
Awesome stuff dude, would there be a chance that I know any of your bands? |
DanielNightLewis
06.25.13 | Hi, I live in Brighton, England (think a tiny version of San Francisco with a greater concentration of hippies and crusties) and I am a research scientist primarily looking at nanotechnology an virology.
I visited Sydney once, a lovely place but I really didn't like the vibe given off by a lot of the people I encountered.
Also, I am a skramz loving, Oscar winning method actor. |
Butkuiss
06.25.13 | @Newgreen Ha, we've inherited your weather it seems.
Nah, most of my bands have been for-fun sort of things, though I might have something starting up in the next month or two. If we get anything done Sputnik will probably be the first to know. ;)
Hi DanielNightLewis! Ha, what a coincidence! How're you liking research? Out of curiosity, is your work government or commercially funded? My girlfriend is doing a major in immunology/virology. I find it pretty fascinating myself.
Yeah, Sydney has a bit of that unfortunately. But there are also some great people. It's like any city, really, I guess. |
DanielNightLewis
06.25.13 | I love research. My work is pretty varied and I have always been a person focussed on small details so it suits me well. The only real downside is that I am in many ways the embodiment of the absent minded scientist stereotype so staying organised is an absolute nightmare. My work is largely government funded but there is also a lot of scope for collaboration with other institutes/organisations/companies as my field is seeing a lot of interest (and therefore cash) at the moment.
Butt, have you got a specific area you are especially interested in or is it a little early in the game to be making those decisions? |
Butkuiss
06.25.13 | That sounds pretty awesome. Most people in research I talk to love their jobs, which is always a nice change from the general populace who hate their job.
I'm still technically in first year as far as studies go, so it's early days yet as far as talking about what areas I'd like to go into. This is my first time studying biology though (I only did chemistry and physics subjects in highschool and before this semester) so I'm really getting into a lot of immunology and neurology content, but I can't tell if that love affair is just because it's all completely new or if there's something special there. |

06.25.13 | Hi! I'm Omnipanzer, husband and father of two. I work in IT for a Fortune 400 company in the pharmaceuticals industry (yes I'm the man, I am part of the problem and not the solution etc.). I like many genres of music, long walks on the beach and humping my wife obvsly. |

06.25.13 | Hi! I'm Will, a high schooler from Massachusetts, USA who's worked a bit on writing over the past few years and has gotten pretty good at it. This summer I'm working at a non-profit organization that works with food and social justice by growing their own food on various farms around the metro-Boston area, and I'll be doing a lot of farming and community education. |

06.26.13 | This is a bit late cause I've been on exams all day so I apologise.
Hey Buttery! I love the name, as I've told you before. That biscuit bass. Pricing Co-Ordinator sounds like a weird job, man. How's it working out?
Heyyo Vakarian! I'm trying to convince my friend to move to Melbourne so I can have an excuse to crash there all the time.
I think we all spend too much time on our own. I've got 30 books lined up to read on my midyear break. We'll see how that goes.
Hey omni! Sounds like a pretty cool job. And does anyone really care about 'the man' or selling out these days? I would've thought pharmaceuticals were the least of everyone's worries.
Hey Leb! Don't worry. The love will win you over one day. Or I'll chop off your Johnson. Maybe I steps on it! |
Butkuiss
06.26.13 | Sup Tyler! Why are there so many Tylers on sputnik these days!?
Hey grizz! Don't worry. I'm still flip flopping on degree choices too. I'm sticking with science for now, but we'll see.
The guitarist for We Lost The Sea (who supported TRP them in Sydney) sent a couple of door spots my way and the show was fantastic. WLTS and TRP are definitely two of the best Aussie bands of all time.
Howdy Brostep! I've always wanted to do some proper charity work but I've never got the chance. Maybe over summer (Your winter, so December) I'll go overseas for it. I've always definitely wanted to work with disadvantaged Aboriginal communities over here, though.
Hey LightRedFloyd! Nice wordplay in that username! |
Butkuiss
06.26.13 | Howdy collectivefacade! Just spread the love as far as it'll go. Like butter on toast.
Howdy Hepkat! Loving your new title. You should see if Jom will let you add it onto the end of your username. It'd spice things up around here.
No percocet though. :( |
Rowan5215
06.26.13 | Sup Butkuiss, I'm Rowan. Seems like we're having a bit of an Aussie gathering here, what does everyone think of the leadership stuff that went down? |
Butkuiss
06.26.13 | Hey Rowan! Nice to see you again. Ausland is best land.
I might be a bit cynical but I don't think it'll make any difference whatsoever. On one hand we run under the Westminster system, not that of a republic, so the PM has no real executive power when it comes to policy. They still have to tow the party line, so not much will change. Add to that that most Australian policy is dictated by the search for US approval and the big money that Palmer Murdoch Packer and Rinehart throw around.
Then again, I do recognise that we as a country have it better than anyone else in the world and we should probably stop bitching and blowing up non-issues just to give the tabloids something to talk about. Spread the happiness, not the discontent. |
ButteryBiscuitBass
06.26.13 | Sup dude! It's OK. It's quite average. I just selling certain trade routes, so if you wanna get a containers worth of cargo from London to Egypt just let me know!
That totally nutty bass. |
Rowan5215
06.26.13 | See me again? I don't remember seeing you before lol, am I forgetting something? And yeah I know it probably won't make much difference but I still think it's good to have Rudd back. Gillard had it coming after she fucked him over last time.
Oh but spread the love, yeah. Uhh I dunno I like rock, metal, alternative, most stuff except rap I suppose. And I'm obsessed with TV shows as well. What do you like man? |
Butkuiss
06.26.13 | I'll be sure to let you know if I ever do. You never know when that could come in handy.
But it needs more oomph!
I will admit that I prefer the remix of Withnail and I a little to the Buttery Biscuit Bass, but I lost it the first time I saw them both. |
Butkuiss
06.26.13 | @Rowan We've conversed a few times on here, but its fine bro.
Eh, I'm apathetic on the leadership situation. Policy is where I'm at.
And yeah dude. I'm at uni 5 days a week so these days I read a lot. I'm really digging Hemingway, Vonnegut and Fitzgerald at the moment. And I also play bass and vocals, and guitar and a bit of percussion.
Seriously dude? I love rap. So much killer stuff in there. You need to get into it. |
Rowan5215
06.26.13 | Oh ok I don't remember talking with you before, sorry about that lol. I know I should probably give some rap a decent chance but I'm just so lazy when it comes to checking out music, and what I've heard of rap (mainstream stuff) is awful. One day man. |
grizz
06.26.13 | listening to wlts now and yeah I totally agree trp is one of the best aus bands out there atm (tho i think aus actually has some really good bands, which is surprising cos i think when it comes to movies, tv shows and books we kinda suck)
and yeah i'm constantly flip-flopping on what i should study, i hope science works out for you tho |
grizz
06.26.13 | oh and i agree that policy won't really change and all that but still it's damn good to see rudd back; still the only aus politician i've ever had any real respect for (tho i don't really follow politics)
btw did anyone see his speech? I'll admit it's most likely political bullshit but it was still a niice speech imo |
Butkuiss
06.26.13 | Rowan, check out Sadistik's Flowers for my Father. Probably my AOTY for this year. Not sure if you'll like it but give it a try.
Yeah, The Quietest Place on Earth is a monumental album. I actually bought my guitar off their guitarist (the reason I was at the gig) and I have to say they're amazing on record and live. Check them out if you ever get the chance. Top dudes.
And I didn't watch it, I was too busy playing Tomb Raider, which is actually surprisingly decent for a franchise game.
