POTS COMP RESULTS (POP)

I have taken into consideration both of the finalists rounds of recommendations as well as other factors that I may go into detail about in the list. Here are the results.
8Twilight Force
Heroes Of Mighty Magic

HARDEST LOSER - TOSMOKMUZYKI

Twilight Force - Heroes of Mighty Magic: disqualifyingly terrible

Tosmok has earned his very own prize of a personalized drawing of what I think his penis might look like based off his ratings and personality for mistaking this for a contest where you are supposed to rec me things I will definitely absolutely despise! Congratulations Tosmok!
7The Gentle People
Soundtracks For Living

7th Place - Ryus

Gentle People - Soundtracks for Living: 4.6
Various - The Indestructible Beat of Soweto: 3.1

Ryus started the comp with an early lead by stealing someone else's rec from his own competition. Since me and Ryus have probably the most similar music taste of anyone who rec'd this round, I was pretty sure he could easily secure a win after such a strong first rec. Unfortunately, when it came time to follow up with a recommendation that he actually thought of himself, the results underwhelmed. I appreciate the direction he went by providing a South African music compilation however, and it was a valuable experience filling out some of the holes in my knowledge of regional African music.
6Pet Shop Boys
Introspective

6th Place - Johnny[well]

Pet Shop Boys - Introspective: 4.6
Citrus - Pits Are the Pits: 3.2

Perhaps not the most unexpected initial rec, but certainly one of the best. Johnny made a great call to provide a rec by an artist I already had a 5 for, and chose an album that definitely pandered to my preferences. Unfortunately, when it came to round 2, he couldn't help but to let his inner chaos-weeb get the best of him and he chose to follow up with an album much more catered to his own preferences than mine. Johnny beats out Ryus because he thought up both of his recs all by himself.
5Nara Leao
Dez Anos Depois

5th Place - AsleepInTheSecondRound

Nara Leao - Dez Anos Depois: 4.6
Colour - Anthology: 3.2

Asleep's first rec seems like a pretty safe bet, but it definitely paid off. When I look at all the gold-winning album, it may not be the most 'exciting' choice, but it does seem like the most 'quintessential'. Perplexingly, Asleep decided to go the opposite direction with his follow-up rec, and offer something extremely risky, in the form of a math-pop album. While I enjoyed it for what it was and relished in the novelty of engaging with a genre I have largely ignored for over a decade, it was another instance where I feel the rec was catered more towards his own preferences rather than mine.
4Janet Jackson
Rhythm Nation 1814

Fourth Place - Drifter

Janet Jackson - Rhythm Nation 1814: 4.3
Masters At Work - To Be In Love (MAW '99 Mix): 3.5

Very close call between Drifter and Phero, however, I felt like Janet Jackson was the safer rec, and his follow up rec was a single song which didn't give me a whole lot to chew on. It was a very good track, and I admire the audacity to make such a bold move, but there is a lot less room for error recommending just one song rather than an entire album, so you should expect less pay-off as well.
3Gaelle
Transient

Third Place - Pheromone

Gaelle - Transient: 4.6
Slapp Happy - Slapp Happy (Random Youtube Version): 3.3

Incredible and unexpected initial rec. This is what I came here for. Brilliant pandering from Phero, he really ticked all the boxes for me with this one. Trip-Hop/Downtempo influenced 00's Contemporary R&B with under 10 ratings? Yep. You nailed it. Homerun. Standing ovation. Slow clap moment. But once again, when it came to round two, it felt like you forgot to recommend for ME and instead just took the opportunity to make me listen to something YOU love. Which is fine, and I enjoyed Slapp Happy, but the winner of this comp needs to musically brown nose me in BOTH rounds.
2Floex
Zorya

Silent Hill 2 Soundtrack: 4.1
Floex - Zorya: 4.1

Consistency between recs here! And I have to hand it to Gyro, out of all the many "big-balls" moves on display here, I thought it was particularly bold to acknowledge that he had not read the rules for the first round by providing a distinctly not-pop rec, and then proceed to follow it up in round two with - yup - ANOTHER distinctly not-pop rec. I respect it. This is the kind of initiative I want to see more of in the next comp. I am, after all, just here to find more music ~i enjoy~, and following the rules is cursory to making my ears happy. Silent Hill 2 soundtrack was a bold move to begin with considering I have never played the game, but it paid off juuust enough to get him into the second round. Then, in a HUGE GIGA-BRAIN moment, Gyro decided to rec me an album that I already had 4'd from way back in my silentpotato days but didnt remember a single thing about. I guess my taste hasn't changed that much in the past decade+
1Lysa Aya Trenier
Strange Flower

WINNER: SNAKE.

Brandy - Full Moon
AYA - Strange Flower: 4.6

Snake started with the safer of the two contemporary R&B choices from round one and ended up with a slightly lower rating than Phero because of it. But Snake quietly took extensive notes from round one and decided to hit me with a downtempo influenced 00's Contemporary R&B album with ZERO. RATINGS. YEESH dog. Snake really watched Phero put the competition in check and then asked Ryus to hold his beer, and having only one occupied hand is perhaps why Ryus's round two rec was so much worse than his first round. Or did we determine that was because he actually had to think up his own rec this time? Hmm...

Anyways, I will put the prizes into a randomizer and declare Snakes prize in the comments.
