POTS COMP ROUND 2 (POP)

We have a shitload of ties for first and second. Usually silver and bronze would get a rebuttal and then gold would only get a rebuttal if one of the silver and bronze recs outclassed their original rec. But since gold is like a four way tie or some shit I'm just giving everyone a rebuttal rec. Still must be ~pop~. Here are the round 2 contenders:
1The Gentle People
Soundtracks For Living

Gold (4.6)

Ryus
2Nara Leao
Dez Anos Depois

AsleepInTheBack
3Pet Shop Boys
Introspective

Johnny[Well]
4Gaelle
Transient

Pheromone
5Janet Jackson
Rhythm Nation 1814

Silver (4.3)

Drifter
6Brandy
Full Moon

Snake.
7Akira Yamaoka
Silent Hill 2

Bronze (4.2)

Gyro
8Various Artists (World)
The Indestructible Beat of Soweto

Africa is host to an overwhelming number of incredibly rich genres. It would be nearly futile to try and memorize the myriad of subtley different regional styles throughout the continent. I like that this compilation covers several different styles of South African music ranging from very traditional to unexpectedly out-there (I was not expecting robot voices lol). I haven’t particularly explored South African music much yet so this was a valuable and educational experience. Unfortunately, the biggest take away here was that South Africa is not host of my favourite regional genres in Africa that I’ve explored so far. [3.1]

Risky rec. I’m not exactly know for being particularly partial towards math rock, at least not within the last near decade. Or white ppl guitar genres in general for that matter. I respect that you took a risk, and although I can’t say that it ~paid off immensely~ it also wasn’t a flop. I had a mildly enjoyable time with this. It’s been a long time since I’ve listened to some good guitar noodles. [3.2]

This is chaotic. The chaos is exasperated by the production, which is at times (wall of distorted guitar moments) ear-splitting and migraine inducing. But there is an endearing quality to the zaniness at hand and I appreciate some of the ideas, especially the dancier moments. So maybe not pandered to me much, but worth a listen, even if singular. The top youtube comment on this is "My wife says I have bad taste in music. I tell her it's an eclectic taste" lol. This is definitely an "I'm eclectic" album, and I can think of a few users that this rec might be better spent on for exactly that, but that's not to say that I didn't get anything out of this. It was a unique and fun experience and I'm glad to have heard it. I wish I could tell you which my favourite track was but since it was a youtube video I have no fucking idea what it's called. It was like the fourth last song or something. It was giving Jefferson Airplane a little bit. I enjoyed that very much. [3.3]

To Be In Love

This is a solid ass house bop. [3.6]

You didn’t have to disrespect everyone like that Dawg. You really took notes from last round huh? [4.6]

This was dope. Truly didn’t remember a thing about this so I am grateful for the reminder. Really creative use of instruments. The only thing I didn’t like is the James Rone vocal feature on Precious Creature. His cadence and lyrics bothered me and took away from the song. I went back and checked what my decade old silentpotato rating for this was and it’s the same as what I decided to rate it now haha. [4.1]
