FIXED Vol. 1: Fifteen Oceans

Thought it would be fun to make a series where I attempt to "fix" albums with wasted potential. First up is Four Tet's Sixteen Oceans.
1Four Tet
Sixteen Oceans

The problem: An extremely front-loaded album where tracks 1 through 7 make up some of the best material of Four Tet's entire career and the back half inexplicably fizzles out into an ambient slog. The ambient tracks aren't without individual merits, but the decision to lump them together instead of having them serve as interludes to enhance the dynamics of the album and make the climaxes of dancier tracks hit that much harder is one of the most perplexing sequencing choices since Radiohead decided to drop A Moon Shaped Pool in alphabetical order. And even out of context, they are pretty boring and make up more than half of the bloated tracklist where other singles dropped around that time would have been much more appreciated.
2Four Tet
Sixteen Oceans

The solution: Keep the near-perfect front half mostly the same, salvage a few remains from the second half and rearrange, insert some of the vastly superior singles that lead up to Sixteen Ocean's release, and rename the album to properly reflect the adjusted tracklisting.

Proposed tracklist:

FIFTEEN OCEANS

1. School
2. Baby
3. Harpsichord
4. Teenage Birdsong
5. Romantics
6. Love Salad
7. Insect Near Piha Beach
8. 4T Recordings (Salvaged and moved to break up dancier tracks)
9. Dreamer (A-side from Teenage Birdsong single)
10. Something In the Sadness (Salvaged, this and Dreamer serve to start building tension again after the 4T Recordings interlude but without going too hard)
11. Anna Painting (2019 EP, one of Four Tet's best songs)
12. Lahaina Noon (Also from the above 2019 EP, sequenced after Anna Painting in that context as well)
13. 1993 Band practice (Salvaged)
14. Green (This and the above track flow into each other and are therefore inseparable unlike most of the other ambient tracks. They also happen to be the best of the ambient tracks. A nice ambient outro / cooldown after two massive third-act bangers)
15. Only Human - Radio Edit (2019 Single, one of the only vocal tracks in the tracklist, repurposed as a good bangin' ENCORE)
