| Atmosphere Concert Recap
Pontiac MI 8/7/11 | 1 | | Prof King Gampo
I walked in to the building about an hour into Prof's set (the line was
around the block) and I was immediately hit with a wave of emotion. Prof
isn't a very good rapper but he makes up for it with his on-stage energy
and frenetic arm waving. I only saw three songs but his highlight was
definitely his last song, which featured the rhyme 'I'm at your show asleep
like a possum/you're at mine like This is totally awesome!' | 2 | | Blueprint Adventures in Counter-Culture
Blueprint played next and he was the only act other than Atmosphere that I
had heard before the evening. His set was a lot lower energy than Prof's
but he still put on a good show. The crowd was a lot less into his set than
Prof's, which was disappointing because Blueprint had a lot of good songs.
Highlight: Five Years Ago | 3 | | Evidence Cats & Dogs
By the time Evidence got on, everybody was just really excited for
Atmosphere and kind of ignored him. Despite the lack of attention, Evidence
and on-stage cohort DJ Babu still went as hard as they could. I didn't
recognize anything that he played but he had a sick (pseudo?) freestyle
about the 10 necessities to get to a live show and what to wear (protip: deodorant is a necessity). Babu
also had a really cool DJing freestyle which
would have to be the highlight because I'm pretty sure Evidence only did 5
songs. | 4 | | Atmosphere The Family Sign
Atmosphere came on at 11 and blew everybody away. Slug was a
completely different person from his Lollapalooza set: interacting with
individuals in the crowd, running around and jumping and seeming to have
a really good time. I talked to Ant a little before and got the impression he
didn't dig his time at Lolla and the group definitely seemed at home in a
small venue. The setlist was all over the place; it focused mostly on The
Family Sign and Lemons but they also played old-school favorites like
Sunshine and Shrapnel. Most of the fans (myself included) weren't as acquainted with their old stuff and I
almost feel like he lost the crowd in some places. It didn't really matter though because there was a
group of people that knew every single word in the front and Slug just fed off them. Definitely a great first
hip-hop concert. Highlights: Sunshine, Puppets, Lovelife/My Notes, She's Enough, Yesterday (best closer

08.08.11 | I wish I had a setlist but they played 20+ songs and I could only remember 15 or so and am just guessing on the order. | HallucinogeNick

08.08.11 | I'd agree if I had known more songs. I went in expecting almost exclusively Lemons and Family Sign while praying for Modern Man's Hustle but they mixed stuff in from some of the Sad Clowns, Blood Makes the Blade Holy and Lucy Ford, so I was kind of thrown. I'll be more prepared next time. | Counterfeit
08.08.11 | see im the opposite, i wanted none from family sign maybe 3 off lemons, and then the bulk to be older stuff, their soundset set was that and one off of family sign and i was happy. the played two of my top 3 songs, God's Bathroom Floor and Modern Man's Hustle. But not The Woman With The Tattooed Hands. | botb
