| 2010 Thus Far
2010 has been an excellent year thus far, here's my opinion on some new releases. If I missed anything, feel free to rec it. | 1 | | Best Of 2010
The ten best albums that came this year. | 2 | | The Tallest Man On Earth The Wild Hunt
The only thing from '10 that I can see myself 5'ing. | 3 | | Immolation Majesty And Decay
One of the better Immolation records, seeing them live two weeks. | 4 | | Eels Tomorrow Morning
I had rather low expectations for this, as most of E's upbeat/happy stuff I don't like too much. Album is phenomenal, and certainly one of his best. Gonna see them three days before Immolation. | 5 | | The Sword Warp Riders
I couldn't have cared less about the band two months ago. After hearing a couple songs, I wrote them off as a boring Black Sabbath-imitation with a weak vocalist and stupid Dungeons & Dragons lyrics. And yet, Warp Riders is surprisingly awesome, in between a 4 and 4.5 for me. | 6 | | Alcest Ecailles De Lune
Tied with Warp Riders. The absolutely mystical, ethereal atmosphere on this is fantastic. If anyone could rec me something in this vein, I'd appreciate it immensely. | 7 | | Addaura Addaura
Tied with Warp Riders and Ecailles. Incredible debut, one of the most promising atmospheric black metal bands to appear lately. Very interested to see what these guys will do next. | 8 | | Fear Factory Mechanize
Gene Hoglan. | 9 | | Bad Religion 30 Years Live
My introduction to the band, a very solid live release. | 10 | | Sigh Scenes From Hell
Very odd avant-garde black metal. One of the few times that I genuinely enjoy the orchestral arrangements in a black metal album. | 11 | | Iron Maiden The Final Frontier
I was worried about this after El Dorado was released, as the song was a bit disappointing. Thankfully, the rest of the album is on par with any post-reunion Maiden. | 12 | | Most Disappointing And Worst of 2010
Whether it's because of high expectations or low quality, these albums really were underwhelming. | 13 | | Arcade Fire The Suburbs
Contains some of the band's best songs, but so much of it is absolutely pointless. Far too long, and half of the songs are anything but interesting (Modern Man, I'm looking at you). | 14 | | Eels End Times
A solid album, worthy of a 3-3.5, but E can do much better than this. The opener is one of his best, though. | 15 | | Brain Drill Quantum Catastrophe
A perfect waste of time. | 16 | | As I Lay Dying The Powerless Rise
Maybe my expectations were too high. As it stands, this album really isn't anything special. | 17 | | Burzum Belus
Now that Varg is out of jail, he has access to regular instruments, so one could hope that he'd make something as good as, say, Filosofem. He didn't. | 18 | | Most Anticipated
Here's what I'm looking forward to. I'm expecting at least two of these to make my top ten when January comes. | 19 | | Necrophagist 2010 album
I remember enjoying these guys a while ago, particularly Epitaph. This could be cool. | 20 | | Wintersun Time
Not gonna ever come out. | 21 | | Atheist Jupiter
Will slay. | 22 | | Autopsy The Tomb Within
See 21 | 23 | | Radiohead New Album | |

09.14.10 | Shameless bump. This year is turning out to be really good. If you guys could rec me some 2010 black metal, I'd appreciate it, apparently, it's been a good year for the genre. | DoubtGin
09.14.10 | how is End Times the best and most disappointing at the same time? | jingledeath
09.14.10 | good list, disagree about 13 though. It's my no. 3 for this year. | RippingCorpse
09.14.10 | "One of the better Immolation records"
ugh | Dryden
09.14.10 | autopsy is going to be so good omg | vanderb0b
09.14.10 | Nice catch, DoubtGin, changed it to Tomorrow Morning.
RippingCorpse, you didn't like it? It's probably one of my top 3 Immo albums.
Thanks chambered, I'll check it out. | RippingCorpse
09.14.10 | no i do like it its probs my 4th/5th favourite u just said it like they have some bad albums my bad | TheSpirit
09.14.10 | Glad to see 7 getting some attention. Also, I thought the Belus was pretty good and it has grown on me a lot since I first listened. But yeah, 2010 has been stellar for black metal so far and looks to be getting better. Check out Pensees Nocturnes - Grotesque for some really cool neo-classical inspired black metal | RippingCorpse
09.14.10 | and yeah new Autopsy bhdsvfsdahbhkgvjsda,bgbaljseke | Jethro42
09.14.10 | Ambitious vander. Tell me, what 'Eels' sound like? | vanderb0b
09.14.10 | Oh, that makes sense, Fade.
Yeah, 7 is definitely awesome, listening to Pensees Nocturnes, pretty awesome so far.
Most of Eels' discog. is depressing indie with rather sparse arrangements, but Tomorrow Morning is a rather upbeat, optimistic album that relies heavily on electronic instruments. If you're interested, here's a review I wrote a while back: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/38649/Eels-Tomorrow-Morning/ | Jethro42
09.14.10 | oh gracias vander, bud | vanderb0b
09.14.10 | Thanks, man. Saw that album on a couple lists, I think. I'll be sure to listen to it. | Jethro42
09.14.10 | vander, we need to rush on Nag, he's got my review in his hand, and all he has to do is to correct/trim/enhance it. So what about a lockout, or leading him under pressure | BigTuna
09.14.10 | Get Sleeping Peonies - Rose Curl, Sea Swirl for 6 (The album is under Sleep Peonies on here) | vanderb0b
09.14.10 | That's odd, Jethro. Nag's usually rather efficient, I've never seen him take very much time with review before.
Thanks BigTuna, I'll get that. | eternium
09.14.10 | Nails - Unsilent Death | Sevhead
11.07.10 | solid list, i feel you on 13. |
