03.23.10 | band's better than metallica. |
jesusjuice1179
03.23.10 | i could go for some clams right now... |
Yeahtoast
03.23.10 | Your mother was better than Metallica :) |
DoubtGin
03.23.10 | nice ranking.. agreeing with it. |
Yeahtoast
03.23.10 | Really Gin? I think St. Anger is widely regarded as Metallica's worst work, but I get more out of it than Load. |
Yeahtoast
03.23.10 | Btw, feel free to completely disagree - I like all albums by Metallica a great deal |
thischarmingman
03.24.10 | hmmm i would put master of puppets ahead of ride the lightning now to be totaly honest. |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | It was a really hard decision that one! I'll probably be swapping those in a month or so :P |
BigHans
03.24.10 | Load destroys ReLoad. Aside from St Anger and ReLoad Metallica rapes. |
Urinetrouble
03.24.10 | my ranking
kill em all
ride the lightning
and justice for all
master of puppets
load
black album
reload
death magnetic
st. anger |
Baphomet
03.24.10 | swap 1 for 2 and we hav oirselves a deal.
and I agree, Load is by far the worst metallica album. |
Inveigh
03.24.10 | what BigHans said. Good list though. I'd go:
Master of Puppets
Ride the Lightning
Death Magnetic
Black Album
Load
...And Justice For All
Kill 'Em All
ReLoad
St. Anger
#'s 2-5 (on my list) are constantly rotating for me though. |
BigHans
03.24.10 | From one of the biggest Metallica fanboys in history, me:
Puppets - slightly edges out Lightning due to greater melodic sensabilities, and not a second of filler
Lightning: Has more stone cold classic Metallica tracks than any other album, a few weak tracks
Justice: Could use more bass and plods a little but the riffs are enormous and contains two of their best songs ever in Harvester of Sorrow and Blackened
Black: Got me into Metal
Load: Nostalgic album for me, isn't nearly as bad as people think
Death Magnetic: Love half of it, the other half is pretty awful
ReLoad: Atrocious album aside from Low Man's Lyric and Prince Charming
St. Anger: I try to pretend it never happened. |
supertouchox2
03.24.10 | and justice. . .
kill em all
master of puppets.
ride the lightning
done.
|
AnotherBrick1
03.24.10 | 4 would be my favorite |
Skybreaker
03.24.10 | DM better than Kill 'Em All?
Hmm. |
BigHans
03.24.10 | Fuck, forgot to include Kill Em All.
Puppets
Lightning
Justice
Black
Kill
Load
Magnetic
ReLoad
Anger |
AnotherBrick1
03.24.10 | uh oh! biggest metallica fanboy forgetting an album! |
BigHans
03.24.10 | I know, damn bass came around corner and I was in a hurry.
If Garage Inc could be counted for the list, it might go right behind Justice and ahead of Black. Album rules. |
Sowing
03.24.10 | right on. wouldn't change a thing about this list. |
Inveigh
03.24.10 | BOTH discs of Garage, Inc rule, don't care what anyone says about disc 1. Sabra Cadabra, Die Die My Darling, (especially) Mercyful Fate, Whiskey In the Jar and Astronomy straight-up OWN. So does Loverman. Disc 2 is still slightly better though. |
Urinetrouble
03.24.10 | for me, i dunno, kill em all is orb my fav album by them. the songwriting is good and catchy and it had its fair share of epics(anesthesia, the four horsemen) and master of puppets had the absolute crappy track known as welcome home(sanitarium). i hate that song |
Inveigh
03.24.10 | ^I love that song. By no means the best on the album, but I still like it quite a bit. |
Urinetrouble
03.24.10 | sanitarium just sounds like a heavy attempt at boring, by-the-numbers ballad to me |
Phrike
03.24.10 | 2
1
3
9
4
6
5
7
8
But thanks for trying |
EnricoPalazzo
03.24.10 | Get 6, 1, 2, and 3
The rest all suck majorly. |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | OH DEAR! Sanitarium - one of my all time favourite Metallica songs. SO surprised when they pulled it out 4th song on the set list in 2008! No, I have to disagree completely. Load is by far the most boring album by this amazing band. At least Stanger (that's right, I made it into one word) had a bit of fight and aggression to it, it's what I liked about it. Not lazy as the last few releases were. Load in particular. ReLoad had some crackin' songs. |
Urinetrouble
03.24.10 | master of puppets is good, just not sanitarium. oh and reload and load should have been merged into one album with only the n=best songs taken and put on there |
thischarmingman
03.24.10 | load sucked worse than st. anger. i agree with yeahtoast! puppets first though. no fillers. full of passion. its a classic album! |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | Yeah that would've been a much better idea. But Sanitarium rules for me |
Ire
03.24.10 | MoP 4
RtL 3.5
Kill 3.5
Death Magnetic 3.0
the rest can be forgotten imo
|
EnricoPalazzo
03.24.10 | Welcome Home is their best song imo. |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | I would have to say it's one of mine as well Enrico. Top 3 definitely |
EnricoPalazzo
03.24.10 | Three best:
Welcome Home
The Four Horsemen
Orion |
Inveigh
03.24.10 | Fade To Black
Battery
Bleeding Me
but it's so hard to choose. Dyer's Eve, Fixxxer, My Friend of Misery, Creeping Death, Disposable Heroes, Hit the Lights, Broken Beat & Scarred and Blackened could all make a case to be in my top three as well. |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | Hmmm mine would be:
Welcome Home
Master Of Puppets
For Whom The Bell Tolls
probably! |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | Broken Beat & Scarred was definitely the best off the new un |
Urinetrouble
03.24.10 | my 3 fav metallicsa songs
the four horsemen
for whom the bell tolls
orion/metal militia tie |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | Orion is unreal. Bass solos ftw! |
Urinetrouble
03.24.10 | primus bass solos are better. claypool auditioned for mtallica around 86 but they told him he was too good |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | Well, I'd expect a band who have lead bass to have pretty good bass solos |
Urinetrouble
03.24.10 | just imagine if les claypool were in metallica do you think their sound would have been better? |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | No? Primus are not thrash metal. Their sound would've been different. He might've fit in with the not so good 90s albums but neh |
Urinetrouble
03.24.10 | primus are funk metal with thrash, blues, jazz and psychedelia influences. frizzle fry had the most thrash influence |
DoubtGin
03.24.10 | ^--- huh? noones talkin about Primus, its Les Claypool
I guess the album he'd be in would be pretty dope, but he'd quit soon after I think.. ego! |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | How did we get onto Primus? |
Urinetrouble
03.24.10 | you mentioned bass solos, i brought up how les claypool has better bass solos AND how claypool of PRIMUS auditioned for metallica |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | Oh yeah. As I said I'd expect a band who play lead bass to have good solos. He really doesn't fit with Metallica though |
LepreCon
03.24.10 | 2, 1, 3, 6, 5, 4, 8, 9, 7
^ That would how my list would go, best to worst |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | ^ Yeeeah, not a bad order at all! |
Urinetrouble
03.24.10 | how i would change metallica
james hetfield-vocals, rhythm guitar
alex skolnick(testament)-lead guitar
robert trujilo-bass
gene hoglan(death angel,death)-drums
death angel is a thrash band in case you didnt know |
Brylawski
03.24.10 | i used to own every metallica album but sold em all except for 1, 2 and 3 |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | If it ain't broke don't fix it :) |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | Those are definitely the three I'd keep too! |
Urinetrouble
03.24.10 | lars ulrich cant drum. period.
kirk hammett, whilst a pretty good guitarist, hits the damn wah pedal too much and plays too many pentatonic scales. alex skolnick is better and cleaner |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | Lars might be a dick but he's the shit on drums |
jesusjuice1179
03.24.10 | Being a drummer myself, beginner mind you, Lars knows his way around a kit, but I could play most of the beats in Metallica songs, I think he gets more credit than due simply because he's a douche |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | I disagree thinking completely the opposite. Why would people who think he's a douche say he's a good drummer JUST cause he's a douche....doesn't make much sense lol.
I think you mean he gets more publicity? Definitely. I for one think he is a MAJOR douche! Don't like the man, never have, never will. Still - he IS a great drummer.
He's sold over a hundred million albums he must be doing something right. |
jesusjuice1179
03.24.10 | the BAND has sold over a hundred million albums, not just Lars, and yes I do mean he gets more publicity cuz he's a douche, which in turn leads to people saying he's a good drummer |
ShadowRemains
03.24.10 | Sanitarium kicks The Thing That Should Not Be's ass all over the ballpark. I'd change up 4, 5, 6 in some way like this...Kill, Death Magnetic, Black Album. I cant decide between 1 and 2. There both masterpieces. |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | Lars is in the band and deserves credit for his contributions. He's always put in a solid performance even through their dodgy 90s phase.
And dude, to me that makes no sense! If I were to call you a dousche right now, I would not under any circumstances consider calling you a good drummer unless i KNEW this for a fact. Which I don't. I'm not taking a stab or anything just making an example k :) |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | Yeah 1 and 2, there's nothing between them for me. I just went with the one I listen to more often! |
jesusjuice1179
03.24.10 | but to people who don't listen to music of any technical skill, such as Duran Duran(just to give you an example of the time), the fact that they heard of him because he was a douche would cause them to listen to the band, and they, him being miles ahead of the drivel that they listen to, would assume that he's one of the greatest drummers in the world, even though nowadays there are far better drummers out there
I guess for his time he was a great drummer, but now he's above average at best, plus he's getting up there so he can't really keep up with the fast paced stuff anymore |
EnricoPalazzo
03.24.10 | "Being a drummer myself, beginner mind you, Lars knows his way around a kit"
"I guess for his time he was a great drummer"
For just his contemporaries for that time period:
Dave Lombardo (my gf's dad sold him a car once, pretty cool)
Ted Kirkpatrick
*Insert any of the other big four drummers here, including Testament's*
The guy is completely average. |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | Thay're ALL getting up there. They're all amazing musicians in their own right.
Dave Lombardo is not a great drummer. Not anymore |
ShadowRemains
03.24.10 | Dave Lombardo is a master behind the kit, no doubt about it |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | And songs such as One, Disposable Heroes are great displays of Lars' talent |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | Disagree D: |
jesusjuice1179
03.24.10 | well Enrico you ignored the rest of comment, i agree with you, but you have to look at it like this
most people weren't listening to the big four back then, they really got popular when Metallica released the Black Album, most people listened to hair metal(Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, etc.) and pop like Duran Duran, so when they heard the black album, they thought it was immensely skilled, far more so than any other drummer they had ever heard.
I think he is an above average drummer at best, but he's no Moe Carlson(he's the drummer for Protest The Hero) |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | Moe Carlson..he's no Max Duhamel |
Ire
03.24.10 | how would i change metallica?
Lars - Vocals and guitar
Lars - Lead Guitar
Lars - Bass
Lars - Trashcanz |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | ^ LOL!
We have a Lars fan in the hizzy! |
Ire
03.24.10 | lol My friends at school are huge metallica fans and jizz over how awesome Lars is. "dude, lars vs neil peart"
somehow lars wins every time |
Yeahtoast
03.24.10 | LOL! Can't we make a band with both of them? I don't wanna pick just one XD |
NeutralThunder12
03.25.10 | Lars himself is not a great drummer. Hammet isn;t a GREAT guitar player. But you know what? Metallica influenced too many bands to be forgotten, whilst Megadeth had the more technical approach and better guitar work, Metallica's song structures and diversity make them the best band of the 80's. And even though Hammet isn't particularly fantastic, he's still one of my personal favorite guitar players, EVER, because of his energy, his original style, and the way he pieced riffs together. They are not as TALENTED technically, as bands like Megadeth or Dream Theater, but they are fantastically diverse, their song structures/lyrics were brilliant, and they still are influencing people today. they are my favorite band, despite how bad they are now (besides Death Magnetic). Bottom line. They are not overrated in any way. |
NeutralThunder12
03.25.10 | Oh and on the Neil Peart thing... Peart is WAY better. But again, Lars WROTE fantastic drum lines, like the ones in the title track from "...And justice for All" and he was one of the first drummers to use the double pedal as he did. None are fantastic musicians technically, but in terms of songwriting, originality and influence? They are one of the best EVER. |
Yeahtoast
03.25.10 | ^ good summary :)
And yus, let's hope the next one is as good as Death Magnetic, better even! |
EnricoPalazzo
03.25.10 | Ahem:
LARS SUCKS
Even comparatively in his own time and in his own genre he was average.
Ted Kirkpatrick = best metal drummer ever |
Baphomet
03.25.10 | hey, enrico!
Brann Dailor and Blake Richardson would like to gave a word with you. |
supertouchox2
03.25.10 | any argument over lars's drumming got stale years ago.
|
EnricoPalazzo
03.25.10 | have*
;) |
supertouchox2
03.25.10 | dan foord is a damn near perfect metal drummer.
js |
Baphomet
03.25.10 | damm typos! |
jesusjuice1179
03.25.10 | Keith moon trumps all!! |
EnricoPalazzo
03.25.10 | Except that he wasn't terribly amazing nor in the genre of metal. |
Yeahtoast
03.25.10 | Ugh, Mastodon...no |
Yeahtoast
03.25.10 | Awful live as well Mastodon |
