| Closing Tracks
Often bands struggle to find material suitable to close out an album.
None of these are remotely one of those times. | 1 | | The Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
A Day in the Life: Allegedly this song took longer to produce than their
entire first album. With so much talent and wisdom thrown into a single
track, it's no wonder it's considered by many to be their magnum opus.

Volcano: Very sad, gloomy track, but also a gorgeous and brilliant track
off Beck's latest album. If he needed to prove to anyone that here's still
got it, this is that proof. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11dfxny7zZw | 3 | | DJ Shadow Endtroducing
What Does Your Soul Look Like Part 1 (Blue Sky Revisit / Transmission 3):
So chill and smooth. Part 2 on 'Preemptive Strike' is probably an even
better track, but this is a beautiful end to an album everyone should know.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQxIexegatM | 4 | | The Doors The Doors
The End: Perhaps the quintessential end to any album even if it is a bit
long. Francis Ford Coppola sure thought so when making Apocalypse Now.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGmAmJFUvzM | 5 | | The Mars Volta Frances the Mute
Cassandra Gemini E. Sarcophagi: Under a minute, but just a gorgeous
display of mellow Mars Volta. http://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=hHFcogUd0es | 6 | | Pink Floyd Meddle
Echoes: Dogs and Echoes, Floyd's two longest tracks are arguably the
best the band's ever recorded. If you haven't taken the 23 minute ride
before, now's as good a time as ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=hon7o8nV7s4 | 7 | | Radiohead The Bends
Street Spirit (Fade Out): An incredibly dark and haunting track, which is
widely considered the best off of the Bends.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCJblaUkkfc (video). also, all fans of this
track should read this interview:

Venice Queen: I actually don't care for this album, but alongside Can't
Stop and a couple decent tracks, Venice Queen saves the album. But i
digress... Awesome guitar work matched with a refined Kiedis make this
track killer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPTBq18shxo | 9 | | The Shins Oh, Inverted World
The Past and the Pending: All the Shins' albums have great closers, but
none more so than this. Very retrospective and all around great. A decade
since the Shins were the driving force behind the Indie genre, it's time to
give these guys more due. http://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=e6dYB35lF_0 | 10 | | Tool Aenima
Third Eye: Tool's longest track (that I know of anyway) and this one is a
14 minute journey well worth taking. Awesome Bill Hick's quotes, amazing
mantra and brilliant musicianship. http://www.youtube.com/watch?
v=7zV78IgXzB0 (video of sorts) | 11 | | Arctic Monkeys Favourite Worst Nightmare
505: (meant to do alphabetical -- ranking numbers mean nothing...)
Humbug is awful and the new single does not sound good, but writing off
the Arctic Monkeys as a one album wonder is a huge mistake as Favourite
Worst Nightmare has elements which make it even better than the first.
505 is the most popular track among rabid fans of these guys for a reason -
- it's amazing the kind of journey it takes you on in under 5 minutes.

03.19.11 | So this is my list of some of my favorite album closing tracks. If you've got anything you think fits into this line of musical thought (closer or otherwise), let me know. And of course feel free to tell me how awesome / awful my taste in music is. Cheers | ashcrash9
03.19.11 | I guess you could consider the hidden track on Undertow "Disgustipated" longer for Tool's longest...
| TheJackal
03.19.11 | NIN- hurt
| acorncheesee
03.19.11 | Oceansize's Ornament/The Last Wrongs has been confirmed to be the greatest album closer of all time. That's just a fact right there. | aok
03.19.11 | "I loved when Bush came out and said, 'We are losing the war against drugs.' You know what that implies? There's a war being fought, and the people on drugs are winning it." Yeah, I left myself an out on that one cause I don't know Tool inside out even though I know their latest 3 albums pretty well. Should probably jump into Undertow at some point cause 'Sober' is a great track. | aok
03.19.11 | @TheJackal big fan of hurt actually even though that's not really my thing, but kindof couldn't deal with the entire Downward Spiral album so I didn't know where it placed on it. Is that the best place to start in on NIN or is there any way to ease into their sound a bit (esp someone like me who's never actually listened to Industrial before). | luschlotz
03.19.11 | Where to start on "the Shins" "Tool", and "Artic Monkeys"? lol
PS: I answered your PJ Harvey question on your profile | acorncheesee
03.19.11 | Don't bother with Arctic Monkeys. Only listen to Tool's Lateralus, really, though Aenima and 10,000 Days aren't bad. The Shins aren't notable. | aok
03.19.11 | @acorn, you're wrong about arctic monkeys and the shins (phenomenal feel good indie in both cases), but you're dead on about oceansize. | MO
03.19.11 | Good call on 1,6 and 10. Gotta mention Train In Vain. I know it's pretty poppy but it's so good. | Kevinthejedi
03.19.11 | Motion Picture Soundtrack | GulliKyro
03.19.11 | In Remote Part/Scottish Fiction is another great closing track | aok
03.19.11 | actually shoulda put separator on here. was never that huge into motion picture soundtrack, but i love me some street spirit.
train in vain is fun --> there is better clash, though shit, i need to give london calling another listen so i can pinpoint its rating. it's been a while.
never got into idlewild even a little. doesn't really sound like my thing but it should be so i don't get me atm | Trebor.
03.19.11 | People You Know | TheJackal
03.19.11 | 'the fragile' is probably easier to get into than 'the downward spiral',
I dont listen to industrial either tbh - only NIN really
| aok
03.19.11 | word jackal, i'll look into it next time i'm in the mood for that kind of thing. | couldwinarabbit
03.19.11 | Radiohead is really good at this
The Tourist
Motion Picture Soundtrack
Life in a glasshouse (my favourite song ever)
Wolf At the Door
Videotape
Separator
and ya Street Spirit is one of the few songs I love on the Bends. | thebhoy
03.19.11 | Curtains off Elton John's Captain Fantastic might be my favourite closer ever. But then Battle of Hampton Roads off The Monitor and Do Make's Hooray Hooray Hooray off of Winter Hymn pop up and are like, hey. | Cerbyrus
03.19.11 | Titus Andronicus - The Battle of Hampton Roads | letsgofishing
03.19.11 | Yeah, Motion Picture Soundtrack is the best I've heard. Battle of Hampton Roads, Sgt. pepper, and Vito's Ordination Song (Sufjan Stevens) are close contenders.
I always dig Tiger Girl (65DOS) every-time I hear it too. | aok
03.19.11 | i feel like radiohead openers knock the crap out of radiohead closers (with the glaring exception of street spirit). i thought tourist, motion picture were a couple of the weakest tracks on ok / kid a, glasshouse is very good no doubt. wolf at the door always bugs me cause it's the same beat as 'because' and 'she's so heavy' off abbey road (and those are two of my fav beatles tracks ever), so i could never get into it, videotape i always thought of as a weaker pyramid song. | letsgofishing
03.19.11 | I don't know...maybe if it wasn't that motion picture soundtrack is the most beautiful pop song i have ever heard..... but I'm good with respectfully disagreeing.. | aok
03.19.11 | solid recs through and through guys. keep similar ones coming | Scoot
03.19.11 | letlive's day 54 | qwer7yfreak
03.19.11 | Jungleland. |
