Mike08 05.17.14	I've never seen a Godzilla movie. Naturally I did have my expectations tempered, but this is a whole other animal entirely. Once someone does actually see the film I'd like some feedback on their thoughts. Last point of discouragement: The whole setup seemed really staged, in an exceedingly and offensively shallow way. You get Mr. Heisenberg with 2 shots of him being a "family man", 1 shot of his son caring it's his birthday, 1 shot of his wife worried about him, 1 about him being a respected scientist, then the next scene involved his wife in an accident (NOT spoiler, in trailer), then cuts to quite sometime later, then cuts to ..... on and on and on. There was one remarkable scene where an exceptionally intense moment occurred. The son cries for 1 split second, and then 2 minutes later it's like that earlier moment didn't even phase him. IMO, this is what agitated me about the film the most.

Usually it was about Godzilla doing progressively more ridiculous stunts and chasing away silly-looking monsters. I love LOVE the way they treated Godzilla, and restoring his legacy and public perception is the greatest thing this film does. He's not a joke, he's a cultural paradigm and a great metaphor along with being fun to watch.

It stuck true to the pacing and tension, added some really great fight scenes, and had some great nods to past Godzilla flicks (like the Mothra tank). Movie was at least good in my opinion really, academy said it best

At least no fucking stupid oneliner throwing jerks in here like other action movies. it was all pretty dark and in the last scenes no one was even barely speaking. seeing that in a hollywood movie is rare these days.
