04.30.10 | Atreyu's new album is their best yet. Huge improvement. Oh and this list is really unoriginal. |
vanderb0b
04.30.10 | 2 was good with the old vocalist, 4 I never liked, but their newest album was surprisingly decent, and the only album by 6 that's worth having is Deliver Us. 9 also used to be good. |
wojodta
04.30.10 | agree with most of these. although i could never turn my back on 9. |
ninjuice
05.01.10 | KSE's new album did suck but I THINK Adam D. has always been the main guy musically, and the description seems to say he suddenly changed/joined and started ruining them. |
Inveigh
05.01.10 | agreed, although I never really liked 1 or 7.
also, I'm not so sure it's Howard's fault KsE went downhill, their sound became much more poppy after Adam D took over songwriting duties from Joel (i.e. everything after AOJB), bc Howard's melodies and screams are better than what Jesse's doing these days (The Empire Shall Fall -- just awful lyrics, and semi-boring clean melodies).
Killswitch just got too popular too fast with Uranium constantly playing the shit out of My Last Serenade, and they had to appeal to the popcorn metal masses. That said, they're better at it than most (Atreyu, Lamb of God, Shadows Fall) in my opinion. |
Brylawski
05.01.10 | KSE were never good |

05.01.10 | I doubt Darkest Hour have, or ever will, make a fortune. Im a fan |
SteelErectedb4you8er
05.01.10 | For the most part I do agree, however, I think Cannibal Corpse released one of the best albums in a long time last year. I don't care what anyone says, it has riffs, grooves, and it is just plain heavy. Yeah, the lyrics are elementary level, but it is all in good fun. Darkest Hour doesn't release the same record over and over. From So Secure to Hidden Hands, they improved their chops and wrote great melodies. With Undoing Ruin, Deliver Us, they added a new flavor to their sound. Now, with their new one, I agree.
Inveigh, I don't know why LoG gets shit on to be honest. I think all their shit is solid, they do write some good riffs. |
Inveigh
05.01.10 | yea, I at least like all their stuff besides Sacrament really, they just get so much love from metalheads I know and it's a little undeserved... nothing they've done really has much staying power to me though, outside of As the Palaces Burn. Just some good tracks on each album. |
SteelErectedb4you8er
05.01.10 | Well, I feel like people dog them int he underground is because a lot of their fan base are similar to Pantera's fan base, which happens to be a lot of meat head jocks and idiots. However, you can't deny me that New American Gospel, Ashes of the Wake, As the Palaces Burn have excellent riffs and great playing involved. Sacrament has and the new one have some good tracks on them, but I don't listen to them as much. I just think they shouldn't get dogged as much they do. |
Inveigh
05.01.10 | yea they definitely suffer bc of a lot of their fanbase, but they cater to it these days. I mean, with lyrics like "NOW YOU'VE GOT SOMETHING TO DIE FOR" they're going for the jocks. But agreed on AtPB, that album's ace all the way through. |
shrapnel
05.01.10 | how did Adam D ruin KSE?
Howard maybe but not Adam |
Inveigh
05.01.10 | Adam started writing all their songs (at least guitars and almost half the lyrics) after AOJB, so yeah, it's basically his fault. But he's hilarious, and if you just view them as a mainstream metal band (like 90s Metallica or something, I dunno) they're pretty damn good at it. |
shrapnel
05.01.10 | Adam D IS hilarious but I think End Of Heartache was still a good album |
Inveigh
05.01.10 | I actually like As Daylight Dies better... I know, I'm weird. |
shrapnel
05.01.10 | didn't really like that one or the 2nd self titled
after End of Heartache I kinda tuned them out but that album and the one before it are great |
nastynick
05.01.10 | all i know is, the band changed when howard joined. and yes, i know adam d is the primary songwriter and howard is a decent, if not great, vocalist, but i still relate KsE's downfall with Howard joining the band. maybe i'm wrong, but that's just the way i feel about it |

05.01.10 | deviant- no, pit didn't get banned. he committed suicide, and i took over his body |

Captain North
05.01.10 | 9 is too good to abandon. And A Sense of Purpose was still a good album so pooey to you. |
nastynick
05.01.10 | A Sense of Purpose was horrendous. It took everything they tried to build back up with Come Clarity and threw it into the dumpster behind an old chinese restaurant in Bangor, Maine. |
Captain North
05.01.10 | Well obviously I disagree. And I take every IF album as completely separate to the next since they change so much, so I didn't really see it as trying to build back to glory days. Hell, I don't think the 'glory days' are that much better than now. I like them both pretty much equally and both eras have their bad bits and their great bits.
And since Jasper was their main songwriter, it's a bit early to presume to guess where they're going to go next. |
nastynick
05.01.10 | I understand that I can't get the "glory days" anymore from in flames, and i don't mind change. hell, some of my favorite bands changed and i still love em(thrice for example), but i find nothing good from a sense of purpose. nothing. it's boring album that almost sounds "pop-metal" to me. experiment all you want. it doesn't bother me. reroute to remain was an album that i actually enjoyed, even if it didn't sound like the jesper race, whoracle, or the lunar strain. but good is good, and a sense of purpose is bad |
Captain North
05.01.10 | I actually think Reroute is their worst album lol. Fair enough though, Sense of Purpose was far more poppy and mainstream, but its a direction they've always been taking and it was only a matter of time. There were flaws, but there was also brilliance. Chosen Pessimist is a brilliant song man. |
nastynick
05.01.10 | i respect your opinion, dude, but i just dont see it. on every albums there is highlights and lowlights, and on a sense of purpose, the ratio was about 1:5 for me, and that's horrendous. after two listens, i don't think i've listened to one song off of that album on purpose(Ipod's have a shuffle option lol). |
JWT155
05.01.10 | JOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNN. Now that I got that out of my system... |
Captain North
05.01.10 | Fair enough. Let's hope their next album changes your opinion about them then, aye. |
JWT155
05.01.10 | Without Jesper I'm intrigued to see what they do. |

05.01.10 | Oh, I hope so Captain. |

05.01.10 | It's funny. Before 2 o'clock two days ago when I was beginning to get this list together, and As I Lay Dying was on it. And then I heard their new album. Had to take them off, and replaced them with, ahem, In Flames. Go ahead. Berate me. I might deserve it |
dnor
05.01.10 | Just do what I do when I "out-grow" the music on my old music player. Ctrl+A and hit "DELETE". Only bands I kept were my mainstay bands (TFOT, Circa, The Dear Hunter, Titus Andronicus, Circle Takes The Square, Trophy Scars, La Dispute, Portugal. The Man...the list goes on). Might Make A Rec List to get some ideas on new bands. |
nastynick
05.01.10 | Oh, ya, definitely. You know, considering I haven't been rec'd anything in the 8 months i've been here. I'm just a newbie who doesn't know good music! Oh god, thanks for letting me know. |
dnor
05.01.10 | No Nick, you misunderstood me. I (as in me, myself) might make a rec list. (which I just did...) |
TheSpirit
05.01.10 | Although 18V's self titled is what got me into them, after listening to Obsession and Vanity, i agree that they squandered their potential. |
nastynick
05.01.10 | TheSpirit- Nah, I liked Until the Ink Runs Out(or whatever the fuck it's called), and Vanity was just meh. After that, god, did they get bad |
TheSpirit
05.01.10 | Until The Ink Runs out was good too. Essentially anything pre-s/t is gold in my eyes, although i can understand why you wouldn't like Obsession considering that was the beginning of their descent into more hard rock territory |
nastynick
05.01.10 | I think we've got our signals crossed, TheSpirit. I hated when they tried to go into more hard rock territory. That shit was garbage.
Josh D.- It's called sarcasm. It's this new way of speaking where you pretend you're being serious, but you're really not. Also, death metal doesn't have to be about the most disgusting shit imaginable. Check out, here's the clincher, Death. |
TheSpirit
05.01.10 | I know that's what i said. That's why you would hate Obsession, it started the hard rock tendencies |
ShadowRemains
05.01.10 | "See #4, although Trevor Strnad is a great vocalist"

05.01.10 | "Atreyu's new album is their best yet. Huge improvement. Oh and this list is really unoriginal."
Lol... unoriginal.... this coming from a guy that put "atreyu" and "best" in the same sentence. Way to go!!! |
