09.13.14 | Yes, that guy who sung on Pink Floyd's 'Have a Cigar'. |
Rowan5215
09.13.14 | oh this is the guy who sung on Ha-
nevermind |
JamieTwort
09.13.14 | lol, you heard any of his (other) stuff rowbro? |
InfamousGrouse
09.13.14 | only got Stormcock (tehehe) but it's very good |
JamieTwort
09.13.14 | I love Stormcock and as a whole it beats some of his earlier albums but I do like the sound of his earlier albums more as they seem much more honest and natural. Stormcock feels a little bit flowery (for lack of a better word) in terms of songwriting and a little bit forced (with the exception of Me and My Woman). I also think Harper's songwriting shined brighter in his less musically ambitious songs, he's at his best as a stripped back folk singer-songwriter. |
Rowan5215
09.13.14 | Can't say I have Jamie, do you think I would like? |
JamieTwort
09.13.14 | I think you would, I mean I know you like great lyrics and vox and I think you like folk so yeah I can see you digging some of his stuff. Flat Baroque and Berserk would probably be the best place to start. |
JamieTwort
09.13.14 | Oh and he's a fantastic acoustic guitarist as well, Jimmy Page practically worshipped him for his acoustic playing. |
Rowan5215
09.13.14 | Page worshipped him? Well we all know how much that means to me!!!!
nah, but thanks. I'll keep him in mind next time I need something to listen to. He's definitely a fantastic vocalist in Have a Cigar is anything to go by |
JamieTwort
09.13.14 | I didn't say I thought it would mean anything to you did I!? I don't even know whether you like Page that much! But seriously that was just a footnote anyway. |
Rowan5215
09.13.14 | I was only joking haha Page has got the chops (its Plant I can't stand) |
JamieTwort
09.13.14 | lol I know I'm only joking too. Don't mention your irrational hate for Plant (one of the best things about Zep) here, it will only start an argument! |
Rowan5215
09.13.14 | I'M SORRY
I will leave my perfectly justifiable and rational hate of Plant for elsewhere |
tommygun
09.13.14 | plant is pretty good robro i mean he's top 4 zep members :D |
Rowan5215
09.13.14 | nice 1 |
Xar
09.13.14 | lol just heard about this guy a few weeks ago. |
JamieTwort
09.13.14 | Had you been living under a rock until then? |
JamieTwort
09.13.14 | Well actually to be fair I guess Harper was never a household name like some of the other folk singer-songwriters of the 60's
and 70's but I thought most people on here would have heard of him at least through Pink Floyd. |
JamieTwort
09.13.14 | Oh wait you're my alt's alt, sup |
Rowan5215
09.13.14 | Ar-cade more like are-gay |
JamieTwort
09.13.14 | Erm, yes he is... |
JamieTwort
09.13.14 | Facts in YOUR face, Arcade. |

KILL
09.13.14 | but i dont wear a hat :D
stormcock rules i aint rly a lyrics guy though the only lyrics i dig are 2112 and ballad of a decomposing man |
JamieTwort
09.13.14 | Haha classic.
lol, just keep my nose clean egg chips and beans :D
Listen to 6 though bro, it has some seriously good acoustic guitar playing. It actually has hardly any lyrics, just the verse I posted and that's it. |
SIMBOLIC
09.13.14 | ok so this list wasnt an Arrow reference |
JamieTwort
09.13.14 | No, it isn't. |
SIMBOLIC
09.13.14 | I realized |
Jethro42
09.13.14 | When I think about Roy Harper, I think about his songs 'Once'(1990) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgYz2Ml4O78
and 'You'(1980) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TWPUxLOIkU
both done in collaboration with Kate Bush. I also know Stormcock but I can't remember what my favs are. Great list JT. |
Jethro42
09.13.14 | btw Harper also played with David Gilmour into one or both of these tracks. So there is no surprise if Harper played into 'Have a Cigar' |
JamieTwort
09.13.14 | Yeah he's collaborated with a lot of musicians. Gilmour also played on a song from Harper's album HQ (not one of his best).
I definitely think he's at his best on his own though.
Cheers, Jethro. |
