Q1 2011
what i've heard this year so far, ranked. Still need Dodos, PtH,
Raekwon, Tim Hecker, and The Weeknd |
20 | | Lupe Fiasco Lasers
You know something's wrong when the guy who made Food & Liquor and
The Cool is on a list lower than the guy who did "Black and Yellow". |
19 | | Wiz Khalifa Rolling Papers
We get it, Wiz. You like weed. Now go away. |
18 | | Tennis Cape Dory
Probably the most generic indie pop album I've ever heard. |
17 | | Cloud Nothings Cloud Nothings
Kind of like if Wavves didn't suck as much. |
16 | | Braids Native Speaker
I was excited when I heard this described as "Animal Collective with a
female vocalist". It's pretty alright, but it doesn't even come close to an AC
album. |
15 | | The Strokes Angles
Has a bunch of really good songs, but then some utter garbage. "You're So
Right" is one of the worst songs I've heard this year. |
14 | | Smith Westerns Dye it Blonde
Love the more polished sound on this album. It has some great tracks
among some mediocre ones. This band has a lot of potential. |
13 | | Toro Y Moi Underneath the Pine
Like this one a little more than Causers of This. Nice and chill. |
12 | | Yuck Yuck
This album's great, I probably would've liked it more if it wasn't so similar to
bands like Dino Jr. |
11 | | Julianna Barwick The Magic Place
A really nice album, but she's not as good as the other people who make
the same kind of ambient/drone that she does (especially Grouper) |
10 | | Iron & Wine Kiss Each Other Clean
This one's died on me too. Still a pretty cool album. |
9 | | The Decemberists The King is Dead
Loved it at first, but it's died on me more recently. Probably the weakest
Decemberists release imo. |
8 | | Bright Eyes The People's Key
It doesn't touch the Fevers and Mirrors through I'm Wide Awake era, but
it's Conor's best album in years and hopefully it gets him back on track. |
7 | | Lykke Li Wounded Rhymes
This album was surprising, because I found her debut really boring and
forgettable. |
6 | | PJ Harvey Let England Shake
Easily her best album since the Dry/Rid of Me era. |
5 | | Frank Ocean Nostalgia, Ultra
Swag. |
4 | | Defeater Empty Days & Sleepless Nights
This album brought me back into hardcore after a little absence. |
3 | | Destroyer Kaputt
Wasn't really into Destroyer's work before this, but this is fantastic. |
2 | | James Blake James Blake
So simple, but so beautiful. |
1 | | Radiohead The King of Limbs
Screw everyone, I love this. My third favorite Radiohead album. |
