08.18.10 | ^^^ Listening now. It's...amazing.
Right, something new. How about Air's 'Moon Safari'? |
Phil
08.18.10 | I know this may sound like a wanker rec but Devin Townsend Project's Addicted. Also Fang Island's s/t is pretty damn cool, its rather uplifting too. |

08.18.10 | I don't think I am really looking for "uplifting", "uplifting" kind of makes me want to scream. Something that’s not just instrumental, with some really good lyrics that I cant get lost in. Deep vocals maybe. |
Masochist
08.18.10 | Try Starflyer 59. 'Talking Voice vs. Singing Voice' or 'Dial M' work. They came out with a new one last week called 'The Changing of the Guard', but I haven't had a chance to hear it myself yet. |

08.18.10 | Maybe avoiding music for awhile could be beneficial. Change of scenery could do wonders, like a holiday perhaps? |
Banion
08.18.10 | I've tried. It's like everywhere I go a song that never would have shown up before shows up. I moved, two hours away, and there was this out door talent show, when I opened the front door from across the town all I heard was his favorite Damien Rice song being played. How do you get away from that? |

08.18.10 | Its natural that any little thing will trigger memories etc, its a part of the process. In time those thoughts will change to more pleasant ones, but it does take time. All I can suggest is to remove yourself from all things familiar, and throw yourself into something that requires all your attention and time |
Banion
08.18.10 | It doesn't help. I moved away and ill I do is work and hang out with new people. And all I think about is how I wish I could call him to tell him about my day, hear his voice. |
McCopper
08.18.10 | Burzum and Agalloch.
Also, try listening to operation mindcrime from start to finnish some of the songs will touch you.
I don't know if it will make you feel better - logic says it won't - but I am just saying.

08.18.10 | do you have to motivation to continue without him? if you live in the past you will decay in the present. you have to want life without him, this is just a stage and will pass, the sooner you realize this the easier it will be. |

08.18.10 | I'm not really sure what you're after but I've really been digging The Mountain Goats lately. The Sunset Tree is an incredible album, something that makes you want to smile and cry at the same time.
In any case, I hope you're doing okay... |
renegadestrings
08.18.10 | Katatonia without question. give "Forsaker" "Leaders" "Burn the Remembrance" and etc. a listen. i don't think their older stuff would best suit your mood |

08.18.10 | yeah i know how hard it is. girlfreind moved back home to virginia. i live in england so yeah thats like 4000 miles between us or something. just keep trying to think of the positives, and less of the negatives. id like to say it gets easier quickly but if im honest ive found that it doesnt, but have managed to find ways of coping with it more.
hope it all goes well. as for music i have no idea sorry i just listen to my favourite albums when im feeling shitty |

08.18.10 | Have you ever tried listening to hardcore? I know it might be a bit innaccesible for some but I find something mindless and angry can at times offer some kind of catharsis. |

08.18.10 | I was gonna say the same thing, Slightly. Trust me, in real life, I'm not like an angry or dismal person at all, you don't have to be to enjoy hardcore, punk, or screamo, or whatever. I definitely find it works as a release so much better than any other genre though.
Suis La Lune - Heir EP (screamo)
Gospel - The Moon Is A Dead World (screamo)
Dangers - Anger (hardcore)
try something along those lines... who knows, maybe it'll help just a little : )
also, if you're looking for something to take you away from real life, listen to
The Flashbulb - Soundtrack To A Vacant Life
I swear by it |

08.18.10 | its not her fault, shes new. Although the whole men are assholes bit does make her seem like a bitcch now.
You should really find someone you know and trust to talk to. I know its an extremely difficult time but the worse thing you can do is give up and let go as hard as that may seem sometimes you dont want to put people you care about in the same situation you are now. It may take a while but you will get through this, all you need now is people to be there for you |
sspedding
08.18.10 | I would like to retract my foul statement from before. It was a stupid, ignorant thing to post without knowing the situation. Please accept my sincerest apologies. |
Banion
08.18.10 | I don't know who to talk to anymore, he was my best friend and I don't want to talk to anyone else. To be honest this list is probably the most I've talked. I honestly can't stand the people making facebook status and writing on his wall when, when he was alive they didn’t give a shit. I would never make a status about this, he‘s not going to read it. Everyone honestly just feels so fake, and I’m probably cheapening by just making this. I'll try all of this that I haven’t heard, thanks. And no problem sspedding, not a big deal. I can't expect everyone to just know my life storey. =p |
SCREAM!
08.18.10 | Youre not cheapening it at all. If this is the only place you feel comfortable talking about it for now, im sure you can see were all here for you |

08.18.10 | I lost my girlfriend to suicide about 4 years ago. It was rough, and out of maybe the 2 or 3 things that got me through it music was always there. Slightlyepic made a great suggestion of listening to hardcore. Hardcore seems to always say exactly what I'm feeling, as it always relates to pain, anger, or just overcoming adversity. I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope what I said helps! :-) |

08.18.10 | "You're not cheapening it with this list. You're hurting, you need to talk somehow. Hold on. "
This. Talking is the only way you will ever accept it and move on. Even if that's what you don't want, it's what is best, trust me.

surprisingly you're not getting horrible advice here but take into consideration exactly WHO you're talking to on here.
you need professional help, i lost someone very close to me when i was 7, it messed me up pretty badly for many years until i finally went to a psych to work things out.
trust me, the sooner you do it, the better |
Sowing
08.19.10 | i have to agree - sputnik might be a good place to get encouraging advice (some of the time, at least), but what you really need is someone in real life to give you serious guidance. getting help doesn't mean you are weak...taking care of your heart and mind is just as important as taking care of health issues with your body |
R6Rider
08.19.10 | I think Katatonia's latest album would definitely help. And please don't post a list about something this serious cause you're going to get a a lot of stupid replies. |
