12.27.12 | I agree with the ranking. However, Accelerate and Collapse Into Now are solid albums too. Of course they aren't anywhere near their best albums, but still, they are worthy of mentioning. |

12.27.12 | 2, 3, 4, 1, 7, 5, 9, 10, 6 for me.
IMO, Murmur and Reckoning are interchangeable. Automatic is, however 1 tier lower. |

12.27.12 | Sure why not but for me it is probably
1, 6, 8, 9, 2 = 3 = 4 = 5 = 7, 10.
I always think of R.E.M. in three phases: college rock (murmur-green), Breakthrough period (OoT - New Adventures) ans Sans Bill Berry. So I will generally rank them Breakthrough period > College rock > Post Bill Berry. Although they do have some stuff Post Bill Berry That I love e.g. Up. You could definitely tell where his influence and restraint had been removed. |

12.27.12 | New adventures is my favorite. Every album in their "Breakthrough" period was a departure for them which is probably what I love about those albums but for me New Adventure is the standout because even for that period it was an even bigger leap away from what they were known for. The college rock era was just a little muted for my taste but obviously I love it as well. There are definitely some real gems in those earlier albums Cuyahoga, Superman (Lifes Rich Pageant), Finest Worksong, The One I Love (Document) Pop-Song 89' (Green) etc. I'd take all those over 90% of what was coming out in the 80's for sure. |

12.28.12 | I'm so lame but I've always loved 9 and 10. It's cause I grew up with those CDs in my dad's car. 1 is obviously 1 though. |

10.08.13 | Murmur is perfect in a way I've barely ever heard. Each song seems to be above the average quality of the album in the moment I'm listening to it, and no song seems below the average quality. While I love every song on Reckoning and think it has no filler whatsoever, I can at least figure out that Time after Time is my least favorite. |
